What is so exciting about this car. I used to own one and it was slow for a stick shift v6. These cars only run 16 second quarter miles, 15's if you're a good driver. Then I got a 99 Eclipse GSX and put a few mods, much better. But all eclipses look very nice.
these cars are pretty fun to drive! my gf has this car in black with a short shifter exhaust and intake. the only thing i dont like about this car is the suspension. you can definitely feel the road, but idk if thats because her car is lowered
I have the same car even the color but in automatic (sorry I can't drive manual NOT that I don't know) and is scratched ALL OVER .........and but it is a very good car......very tough.....
@koalatoday Idk I always when I travel to USA I see people driving automatics and also they took soo much time to parking and stuffs like that I they they mostly like the easy stuffs and security but sometimes they go too far :P right now you said you American driving a manual seems pretty good on yourself weird but really cool..
I'm sorry, but you do not drive properly. You don't wrench the shifter into the gears. You have a full grip on it. That's the easiest way to wear out your synchros. You need to shift with your thumb and fingertips.. SLOWLY.
@Tibbylover608 It's a FWD car with a galactic turn radius, I have 5 speed Eclipse GT and it ain't all that good. For instance, getting into first gear as well as reverse it's like an art, first gear is virtually nonexistence meaning your speed is slow but you will still get the torque pull from the V6. The cup holder is useless since it's located behind the shifter unless you have an auto, but a manual? Useless. But nonetheless, girls like my cars and I like girls, so it sorta even out.
i have a 1996 eagle talon tsi awd that is an automatic.. i hate autos so tomorrow i am hopefully trading for a 2000 eclipse gt 5 speed i cant wait! the only thing i dont like about them is the sound D: i love the sound of 4 cylinders with punched out cat and no muffler
this guy is an inexperience manual driver. You dont have to down shift buddy, it wears the engine out, instead of your breaks, only use it if your slowing down and not stopping. Also, that clutch and shift doesnt look to plesant, dont know if you wanna buy that car, its probably beat up pretty well. Most manuals are because idiots dont know how to drive them and dont shift well. But some engine parts and you should be good

@tweedieHD true, true, hes just burning out his clutch that way. also u dont need to prees the clutch every time you shift up. it will also burn up your clutch faster
@itelluwhat1 i think what he was getting at theres no reason to move the gear leaver through the motions of each gear unless your going to release the clutch between the gears to use the engine to slow down. Might as well just coast if ur going to use the breaks to slow down instead of the engine.
@tweedieHD when i slow down i usually just put it into neutral let the car roll release the clutch until im ready to go, if im slowin down i rev match shift down ride it as long as i can.. get alot of automatic drivers honking at me.. i miss my stick shift..
@AutoJunkieMan Oh so u r one of those people who's holding traffic up haha jk! When I slow down I use brakes, if there's a red light I use brakes, if I go into a corner at a high speed I heel n toe. No need for down shift or anything like that when slowing down, just brake and put car into neutral when coming to a stop. Ill be getting an 02' eclipse GT 5-speed in about 5 days. I've gotta say I watch this video over and over because that engine sounds so good getting on the highway
@passngas2 lol nice I like to watch it again and again because the 6 cylinder sounds so different from the 4 cylinder that I have. I would have gotten the GT but I cant afford to pay gas for a V6. Is it your first stick shift car?
@Drewwberry Well that really depends. Do you have the manual V6 and him the automatic 4 cylinder? that would explain why. Maybe he's more of an aggresive driver. His engine might be more worn and wasting more gas. Fact is 4 cylinders should use less gass than 4 cylinders. It uses .6 liters more and has 2 more cylinders.
@datpimpinboy i think its because the 3400lb eclipse is just too heavy for the 4cyl, needing more gas consumption to make it up hills and such. I dont know. But my point is, the difference in gas mileage should not be what turns someone off from the v6. the difference is small.
@Drewwberry I mean the difference might not be incredibly big but there's still a difference and any extra bucks that I can save are good at this moment. If gas was cheaper and I knew it would be steady at a cheap price I would have gotten the V6. But for now I'll have to do with my 4 banger.
@Drewwberry That Eclipse weighs 2800 pounds believe it or not. The sticker on the door is the weight when the car is full of people and shit in the trunk to it's maximum capacity, and the 6 banger gets better gas mileage because it takes premium.
@montysport94 Are you sure it only weighs 2800lbs? I have a 2001 Stratus coupe which is basically the same car on with a different body and slow as fuck. The owners manual says it weighs 4100lbs. How can there be that big of a difference?
@ZombieUppercut The owners manual only shows the Gross weight, which is 4100 pounds. You're looking for curb weight. The gross weight it with the car filled to it's maximum capacity. (4 people in the car, full trunk, and full tank of gas). The cars weight itself is the curb weight. No passengers, empty trunk, no gas. And when you talk about racing (where it really matters) the car will most likely be empty except for the driver. So it's closer to the curb weight.
I know this may sound weird, but this is my dream car right now, mainly because it probably will be my car soon as I am a teenager who isn't spoiled shitless like almost everyone these days :/
@ExistBMX lol it was my first car too. I wish I could have gotten a brand new camaro or mustang like many of my spoiled rich friends/classmates but nope, im not spoiled like that. I got the 2.4 L 4 cylinder with the 5spd version though. It's a good car for a first car. Once I save up more money ill try and get something better.
@00VenGenCE00 It is. I own a 03 Eclipse and they are very fun cars to drive, I have stick shift too. I'd recommend getting stick shift because the automatics only have 4 gears. If you want a more economical version you can get the 4 cylinder one
@00VenGenCE00 No problem man. Hope you can find a nice one. If you're on a budget check craigslist, there's always a few of these cars and they are cheaper than buying them in a dealer, just make sure everything works well. And if you dont know how to drive stick now, when you get it, have someone take you to a parking lot, and practice there. That's how I did it, it took me a few days to be ok at it, and about 1 to 2 weeks to be able to drive it in the streets. Good luck!!
He's riding the shit out of the clutch, letting the rpm's getting way to high for cruise and slamming the shifter way to hard.. i have the 01 model, it shouldn't need to be driven like that to see what it can do... stop fucking the car up!
Hi i have a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse gs manual and i have wanting to rebuild my enginge with turbo performance parts. if anyone knows a website please message me i. or a place in miami where i can look for these parts please let me know
@Christhedude4 the thing is that he lets go the clutch too soon...in 1st and 2nd gear you are suppossed to stop pressing the clutch in like "2 times" to get smooth gear changes..i mean stop pressing it half the way then the other half..thats just practice..thats the only thing
@Christhedude4 the thing is that he lets go the clutch too soon...in 1st and 2nd gear you are suppossed to stop pressing the clutch in like "2 times" to get smooth gear changes..i mean stop pressing it half the way then the other half..on 3rd 4th and 5th gear you can let go faster...thats just practice..thats the only thing i see he is doing "wrong"
@edison9971 exactly, release the clutch until you feel it connecting put some gas in there and then slowly release the clutch in about 3 to 5 seconds.
@Christhedude4 you can see that he is a little rough on letting the clutch out at one point but i can understand if he is testdriving the car; each cars clutch is a little different, whether it be travel or whatnot
@Christhedude4 He may be doing it right, but if you were sitting as a passenger you would realize that the ride is rather rough, he is letting out the clutch way too fast and giving it gas too early between shifts, which is fine though, first time driving the car, every clutch is different and needs some getting used to.
@Christhedude4 He's doing it wrong because he's just dumping the clutch on every shift, and not rev-matching. When you drive stick you are supposed to find the correct shift point for your car so as to get a smooth shift and avoid burning your clutch out prematurely or ruin some other transmission part. Considering you believe he's doing it right means you've got alot of practicing left to do. :)
@DDRGURU56 You mean rev-matching in downshifting? Because you dont need to rev match up shifting, and you are supposed to press clutch-shift-release clutch. I know Kyle didnt do it 100 percent correct, but he wasnt that bad either.
@datpimpinboy No, you do have to rev-match every time you make any shift. Otherwise you add wear to the clutch. Rev-matching isn't limited to a blip on a downshift. It doesn't even necessarily require adding gas. It is simply making sure that when you engage the clutch to the flywheel, your rpms are exact or close to exact as possible. Therefore prolonging the life of your clutch and making the ride seamless.
@DDRGURU56 Dude, what are you talking about? I've been driving stick for a long time and you simply shift when your RPMs reach 2500-3000 or somewhere near that (of course you can change at higher RPMs but im talking normal driving) The only reason I would seem you'd have to match engine speed to transmission speed is to make a shift without clutch, which I have done as well. You do however have to match when downshifting, otherwise the car is gonna pull forward weird when you downshift.
@datpimpinboy I'm not sure what you aren't understanding by my comment so I'll try to be even more clear. When you upshift, and say you wait too long to complete the shift, or shift to fast, what happens? Your car jerks a little, or a lot depending on how far off your rpms are between your engine and tranny. The term rev match simply means matching the transmission speed to the speed of the engine. Like I said before, it doesn't ONLY refer to a blip of gas on a downshift. Does that make sense?
@DDRGURU56 I think all you said can be summed up to this: when you up shift, simply press clutch-shift gear-release clutch in which pressing/releasing the clutch should take about a second each. Simple as that. Yes, you're right, but telling people to rev match when shifting simply confuses them and makes it look a lot more complicated than it simply is.
@datpimpinboy Except that you are supposed to match rpms. Simply disengaging the clutch, shifting gear, then re-engaging the clutch in a second won't necessarily make a difference. It all depends on how fast your car's rpms drop after clutch in. Like if your cars revs drop fast you'll probably either have to drop the clutch or give it gas to get up to the right engine speed for the next gear. And if your revs drop too slow you'll have to pause on your shift. Either way, it is all rev-matching.
one thing wrong w/ this car FWD :((

@datpimpinboy i think its because the 3400lb eclipse is just too heavy for the 4cyl, needing more gas consumption to make it up hills and such. I dont know. But my point is, the difference in gas mileage should not be what turns someone off from the v6. the difference is small.
Drewwberry 8 months ago
@Drewwberry I mean the difference might not be incredibly big but there's still a difference and any extra bucks that I can save are good at this moment. If gas was cheaper and I knew it would be steady at a cheap price I would have gotten the V6. But for now I'll have to do with my 4 banger.
datpimpinboy 8 months ago
@Drewwberry That Eclipse weighs 2800 pounds believe it or not. The sticker on the door is the weight when the car is full of people and shit in the trunk to it's maximum capacity, and the 6 banger gets better gas mileage because it takes premium.
montysport94 8 months ago
@montysport94 Are you sure it only weighs 2800lbs? I have a 2001 Stratus coupe which is basically the same car on with a different body and slow as fuck. The owners manual says it weighs 4100lbs. How can there be that big of a difference?
ZombieUppercut 8 months ago

ExistBMX 8 months ago 2
@ExistBMX lol it was my first car too. I wish I could have gotten a brand new camaro or mustang like many of my spoiled rich friends/classmates but nope, im not spoiled like that. I got the 2.4 L 4 cylinder with the 5spd version though. It's a good car for a first car. Once I save up more money ill try and get something better.

i was thinking of selling my 2005 grand am for one of these, would it be a good idea cas im sick of my car, is it a good buy?
00VenGenCE00 8 months ago
@00VenGenCE00 It is. I own a 03 Eclipse and they are very fun cars to drive, I have stick shift too. I'd recommend getting stick shift because the automatics only have 4 gears. If you want a more economical version you can get the 4 cylinder one

@datpimpinboy well thank you, ill be selling my car asap now and getting one of these
00VenGenCE00 8 months ago
@00VenGenCE00 No problem man. Hope you can find a nice one. If you're on a budget check craigslist, there's always a few of these cars and they are cheaper than buying them in a dealer, just make sure everything works well. And if you dont know how to drive stick now, when you get it, have someone take you to a parking lot, and practice there. That's how I did it, it took me a few days to be ok at it, and about 1 to 2 weeks to be able to drive it in the streets. Good luck!!

so u telling me that u can switch gears as long as u want by pressin down the cluth.. n how do u go reverse??
KushnHaze7 9 months ago
@KushnHaze7 Same as any other gear, press the clutch and put it in reverse.
datpimpinboy 8 months ago
He's riding the shit out of the clutch, letting the rpm's getting way to high for cruise and slamming the shifter way to hard.. i have the 01 model, it shouldn't need to be driven like that to see what it can do... stop fucking the car up!

Christhedude4 10 months ago 36
@Christhedude4 - I would say the car is bobbing too much, I would also say thats the camera making it look like his shifting is off.
Cant believe how ugly the interior is tho, glad the 4G looks better. The blue interior lights are awesome.
xDilutedx 10 months ago
@Christhedude4 the thing is that he lets go the clutch too soon...in 1st and 2nd gear you are suppossed to stop pressing the clutch in like "2 times" to get smooth gear changes..i mean stop pressing it half the way then the other half..thats just practice..thats the only thing
edison9971 10 months ago
@Christhedude4 the thing is that he lets go the clutch too soon...in 1st and 2nd gear you are suppossed to stop pressing the clutch in like "2 times" to get smooth gear changes..i mean stop pressing it half the way then the other half..on 3rd 4th and 5th gear you can let go faster...thats just practice..thats the only thing i see he is doing "wrong"
edison9971 10 months ago
@edison9971 exactly, release the clutch until you feel it connecting put some gas in there and then slowly release the clutch in about 3 to 5 seconds.
Azraelus66 9 months ago
@Christhedude4 you can see that he is a little rough on letting the clutch out at one point but i can understand if he is testdriving the car; each cars clutch is a little different, whether it be travel or whatnot
passngas2 8 months ago
@Christhedude4 no hes not
atlantafan447 8 months ago
@Christhedude4 He may be doing it right, but if you were sitting as a passenger you would realize that the ride is rather rough, he is letting out the clutch way too fast and giving it gas too early between shifts, which is fine though, first time driving the car, every clutch is different and needs some getting used to.
rizrz34 7 months ago
@Christhedude4 lets off the clutch to fast
RoaringMuffin 7 months ago
@Christhedude4 He's doing it wrong because he's just dumping the clutch on every shift, and not rev-matching. When you drive stick you are supposed to find the correct shift point for your car so as to get a smooth shift and avoid burning your clutch out prematurely or ruin some other transmission part. Considering you believe he's doing it right means you've got alot of practicing left to do. :)
DDRGURU56 6 months ago
@DDRGURU56 You mean rev-matching in downshifting? Because you dont need to rev match up shifting, and you are supposed to press clutch-shift-release clutch. I know Kyle didnt do it 100 percent correct, but he wasnt that bad either.
datpimpinboy 6 months ago
@datpimpinboy No, you do have to rev-match every time you make any shift. Otherwise you add wear to the clutch. Rev-matching isn't limited to a blip on a downshift. It doesn't even necessarily require adding gas. It is simply making sure that when you engage the clutch to the flywheel, your rpms are exact or close to exact as possible. Therefore prolonging the life of your clutch and making the ride seamless.
DDRGURU56 6 months ago
@DDRGURU56 Dude, what are you talking about? I've been driving stick for a long time and you simply shift when your RPMs reach 2500-3000 or somewhere near that (of course you can change at higher RPMs but im talking normal driving) The only reason I would seem you'd have to match engine speed to transmission speed is to make a shift without clutch, which I have done as well. You do however have to match when downshifting, otherwise the car is gonna pull forward weird when you downshift.
datpimpinboy 6 months ago
@datpimpinboy I'm not sure what you aren't understanding by my comment so I'll try to be even more clear. When you upshift, and say you wait too long to complete the shift, or shift to fast, what happens? Your car jerks a little, or a lot depending on how far off your rpms are between your engine and tranny. The term rev match simply means matching the transmission speed to the speed of the engine. Like I said before, it doesn't ONLY refer to a blip of gas on a downshift. Does that make sense?
DDRGURU56 6 months ago
@DDRGURU56 I think all you said can be summed up to this: when you up shift, simply press clutch-shift gear-release clutch in which pressing/releasing the clutch should take about a second each. Simple as that. Yes, you're right, but telling people to rev match when shifting simply confuses them and makes it look a lot more complicated than it simply is.
datpimpinboy 6 months ago
@datpimpinboy Except that you are supposed to match rpms. Simply disengaging the clutch, shifting gear, then re-engaging the clutch in a second won't necessarily make a difference. It all depends on how fast your car's rpms drop after clutch in. Like if your cars revs drop fast you'll probably either have to drop the clutch or give it gas to get up to the right engine speed for the next gear. And if your revs drop too slow you'll have to pause on your shift. Either way, it is all rev-matching.
DDRGURU56 6 months ago
@DDRGURU56 Like I said, you're right. But for the most part, especially on new cars, you dont need to worry about that.
datpimpinboy 6 months ago
@datpimpinboy What do you mean "on new cars you don't have to worry about that". If you want your clutch to last you do. lol
