ok this is how it goes. after u shoot ur self in the face you end up in the darkness's mind. in its mind is WW1 where anothony gained the powers. The reason the mind manifests it like that is because it finds a person and continues down the bloodline and WW1 is where anthony got the darkness.

muzihdedy is right. its the mind of the darkness. it traps jackie there where it is most comfortable, where it all began until he can repair jackie. yes, jackie isnt the first one to wield the darkness...i think that wat is the most significant detail here is that the darkness isnt the devil himself, it is just one of the many spwns of hell and there are many more...

If you read volume1 issues 1to6 of the comics, it explains that the darkness is a power just like the witch blade the angelus use to fight it. Basicly a element that cant be over used. Jackie is part of a long line of a brother hood. The darkness is passed down through the sperm of holder of the power, once it is passed they die.
