I think the rape scene was well done on an emotional level. When the scream echoed out I instinctively wanted rip him back from her and punch him in the face. Whether that was just me i don't know :)
@JessieAckles I completely agree. I know this is so screwed up but I like Alec more than Angel. Bad boy fever....And I see that you like Dean as well so yayyy for SPN
Like the actor, hate the character. I don't even get why he went and did that, considering that up until then there was clearly an attraction between Tess and himself-a little more time and she'd probably have married him anyway. Poor Tess :(
@ACompanyofSwans NO, you got it wrong, he lusted after her and she felt uneasy around him. We do not know what she thinks in the movie, but in the book one can read her thoguhts, and she WAS attracted to him, cause he is described as "rakeshly handsome" - sort of like the mdoern "bad boy".
But not only was he her distant cousin but he had a "way with his words" that made her doubt his character.
In book she kisses him back at first, cause she didn't know the way of men and "where it would lead".
to be raped at all is terrifying, but during that time period and under those circumstances, tess must have been especially traumatized. i hope this was a rare occurrence during that epoch.
If you were from a farm, or slums of London it occured regularly if a woman were to venture on her own late.
in higher classes it of course occured less frequently, however the men of nobility were known for taking advantage of servants, some maids did not mind, but if an innocent girl DID it woudln't matter to him. If she'd manage to escape, she would most likely lose her station. Raped ladies usually kept it a secret to preserve their reputation.
its not supposed to be a rape! she could be seduced you know. god, theyve ruined hardy's narrative opacity

Hah, he could NEVER rape me - no matter how hard he tried!
Not because I'm too strong for him (as if) ... but because I wouldn't fight him ;)
I mean, really... what is her problem?! Spoilt, picky little bitch! :P
