I hope you have found the book Child of the Sit-Downs. It is about Genora Johnson, head of the Women's Emergency Brigade. Some of the books written by researchers are a little sketchy on some of the details, but this book is excellent. Good luck.
I'm currently enrolled in my Junior year at university of Bridgeport and I'm doing a paper on this strike. This is a time when many stood as one in the interest of all. I'm of African decent and my forefathers stood up just the way the sit down strikers did, for their families and our future. It's because of their blood sweat and tears so many take advantage of these liberties today. I don't know what happened to the fight for the people mindset yet I wish we would find it once again!
if i ran a successful business and my workers tried to form a union, i would tell them they better pull their heads out of the asses or the business is being shutdown, permanantly. not sold, but shutdown.
Can this song be purchased? We had one of two original sit-downers still alive come to our Rally at Solidarity House protesting two tier and violations of worker's rights. I am trying to make a video of this rally including some old photos of the sit down strike. I would love to use this song in the video. I went to the web page of the singer and this song was not on any of the albums.
Olen Ham, the sit-downer, when asked what he thought of Solidarity House replied, "I don't know em."
Oh man...this has so moved me. You see, Saturday on Oct. 16 we are marching on UAW Solidarity House. We will have an original sit-downer there who is joining us. It's time to take that stand again.
I just stumbled across this. This Saturday, Oct. 16th, we are going to march on UAW Solidarity House. It is time to stand up again. One of the last sit-downers, Olen Ham will be joining us so we can shake his hand and actually touch one of our heroes.
We in Michigan and in the "rustbelt" have got to quickly unfuck our entire mentality. The jobs aren't going overseas, they're being exported there due to the actions of real live human beings, including execs and federal policy makers. The future they want is one in which we will not have a place. We face the economic displacement of millions and the destruction of entire communities thanks to these bastards. We've been wayyy too polite and way too divided over the years..
Labor Music, I wish there was more of it today, and that it was made more widely available to the newer generations who so desperately need it as an educational tool. Well Done! To all of my brothers and sisters who helped make this song, Solidarity Forever!
Thank you! I Posted this for my friends Dan and David. David pushed for the womans monument in Flint and it was put up last summer! I forwarded this to him as I know it will mean a lot to him.
This brought tears to my eyes. My father was a sitdown striker that just passed on . He was one of the last few alive. They do not make men and women like that anymore. Had to fight for everything they had and fought for us today. Thank You Alvin Bodette for all you did then and for being the father you were to me and the grandfather you were to my daughter. Miss you so much Love Mike
Thanks Mike, that's awesome! I forwarded this messege to David and Dan who did the music for this. Do you live in Flint? They have new monuments to the women at the site. Keep the memories! Diane
In 1937 GM hired goons to kill the strikers, it got so bad that the National Guard had to step in to protect the workers. The anti union idiots don't understand that without the UAW we wouldn't even have OSHA. Now GM has gone through the UAW inside out to weaken and corrupt it and has succeded. Now our livelyhood is in the hands of dog eating communists overseas. I say the gov should tell GM to pack up and leave with spare parts for 20 years. OR bring all of our jobs BACK!!
Dan, and Dad ..... Great job, guys! Makes me miss home ....
No mater ones feelings on Unions, it is the strength of friends and family that brings real strength. They all faced incredible odds, and made a difference in how American workers were seen.
..... if only we could see that type of American again .....
I am 3rd generation UAW and I owe where I am in life to those strikers.

@J1980Thomas When the wealthy fill their pockets through the workers and poor people, people can only protest. Until the revolution arrives.

Nice to see my Father-in-Law's Dad in the film. Olin is one of a handful of survivers of the strike. 92 and still counting retirement checks!
