I had a bolt-action 243 with scope and loved hunting deer and antelope with it. For me, shooting the 243 had nothing to do with "less recoil". It brought home the meat. It's a fast-shooting rifle, doesn't destroy a lot of meat and I once shot an antelope dead on the spot at over 400 yard. Sadly, I had to sell it once when I needed the money. Later bought a used 30-30 lever action Marlin that I really like. Open sights. But I'd like to have that 243 back!

The BROWNING BLR (which is a lever action) comes in a .30-06 and is a far more superior rifle with superior bullet ballistics and the ammo is cheap! Don't get me wrong I love a .30-30 but the 'aught 6' is much better.

So im 14 n im either a gettin a 30-30 lever action or a 243 bolt action.. What would you prefer and im use to like 150 to 200 yrds n ik the 243 bullets are lighter and faster but what firearm is more reliable for the kill(white tail deer)

@iRambo101 I shot a Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54R without hearing protection once and that baby cut my hearing down to 50% for a little while lol. I shot my win 94 without, hearing protection, back in 2008 at a deer and didn't really notice much of a change in hearing after it.  Of course it might have been the being-in-the-moment thing where you don't notice the report like you would at a paper target.

30-30's are awesome, along with the 35 marlin. I don't own either but i have relatives that do, they are great. I use my .222 remington for deer sized game with 50 grain soft points for good expansion and minimal fragmentation and they seem to work good. Happy shooting!

Thays a winchester, but marlins are better, because winchesters eject from the top, whereas marlins ejest from the side, allowing for scope mounting.

Why would you need to mount a scope on a carbine? Its not a 30/06 its a 30/30 a brush gun not a sniper rifle. If you need a scope then you need to learn how to shot.

Im a good shot with the 22 with iron sights as weel killed dumpsters ful of critters but at dark when that big buck walks out ya dam right i want the three oh eight with the leuopold

.30-30s have hardly any kick but deliver good takedown on deer sized game within 150 yards. i have a .338 win mag and it kicks fairly hard but as for .30-30s they dont kick.

If you want to find a gun like that it was a Winchester 1887 shotgun, O'Connell used one the the Mummy Returns as well. Oh and if you've ever seen El-Dorado with John Wayne he did the same thing with a custom Winchester 94 rifle.
