@sprigletstudios The plaster used for arts and crafts such as plaster bandages does not burn at all. Yes you can use latex but latex shrinks, you can give it a try though.
@trueevilturtle Make a plaster mold of your face and use it as the armature and sculpt your monster design on it. Then make the mold of it and cast it.
Hey man, I got a question for ya. Did you do anything to the plaster mold to get that rougher texture? I tried this with the plaster bandages and The final product didn't have the same rough textures yours appears to have. Maybe I could try putting small gouges in the plaster mold. Also, do you pour the silicone directly into the plaster mold? Or brush the layers on? By the way, Great videos man! You do great work!
@stayanddrown The rough textures should form naturally due to the texture of the plaster bandages. For the casting part, you just pour in the casting material, you can also brush it on if you like it actually does not matter.
@EvilSlaughter13 i live in australia so i dono if i can still get it from thoes places...but i asked a few people and they said i could just use water proofing sealant because its non toxic when its hardened and its really just clear silicone and i can buy it from hardware shops and stuff...what do you think?
@poprock61572 Alginate replicates a perfect copy of your face which is not the point in my method. My method being imperfect makes the death mask itself have a distinct personality since it is not the perfect version of the wearer itself. The cracks, rough texture, etc. all play a part which gives the death masks a personality and style when used by this method.
do you think the first part of the video would be a good way to make an armature? cover your whole head and fill it with plaster? i want to make a mask but i need it to fit to my face and im just thinking of easy ways to make a cheap armature
@badmouthwilly Oh certainly. I design my tutorial videos so that other people can use my ways as a template to create a whole new method. Just be sure to add a lot of vasceline before you pour in the plaster.
one last question ,say i have made a micheal myers head outta modeling clay, would useing vasoline and plasters bandages disrupt the clay at all.? thanks.
man its hard to find a mask that would creep me out but these masks did the job! i always feel like they are going to open the eyes and give me a death look :D
Have you ever tried making one of those three-faced masks? I know the main term is "Trifaccia", which is a Venetian-style mask, but I was just wondering if you had ever tried making one like it, or how you would recommend attempting one, because the one I'm trying to figure out is the kind where the three faces blend into each other, so the eyes of the front become the eyes of the sides, same with the cheeks. Lol, you can google it to get a visual, but I just thought I'd ask.
@EnragedAura Never heard of it but i just looked it up and i gotta say its very very interesting. Ill see if i can apply this to my future designs :) thanks for mentioning this dude i appreciate it!
my wife suggested we do this together some time ago, but I was not very inspired to do so. this lesson has changed my mind. thank you for taking the time to put this together. your time and effort are sincerely appreciated.
dude it looks good but you should check out prosthetic grade alginate for face casting its easier faster and painless type in Bity mold supply check them out work smarter not harder looks good though
Dude.. why would you use Latex when Silicone is so Available in todays special FX market and it lasts FOREVER.. Latex just SUCKS cause it rots after no time at all.. im sure you know all this btw im just typing this for anyone else who is thinking of doing this. god knows i wanna keep my masks forever cause 20 years from now imagine how fun that will be. having a face mask of your face back when you was in your teens or 20s? fuckin awesome. (Also i thumbed up this video so you know, great vid)

@EpiStoLaRyDOoMhEaD The silicone that you buy in hardware stores are not meant to be worn in the face. Smooth-on ships internationally...
