Dear Guruji, It is said that if one wants to spiritually ascend then a Guru is necessary to guide him/her. I like to chant "om namah shivaya" but according to ayurveda I have pitta dosha and too much heat in my body because of which I have IBS symptoms. I read somewhere that om generates a lot of heat in the body...is it safe to practice the om chants for a woman? How do I find a Guru who can guide me and tell me whats right for me?
I do know a little about Ayurveda and the doshas, but not enough to state clearly that the mantra you are using might cause difficulties. I really doubt it, however, because any mantra offered with love and devotion to God and guru is a blessing. I've never heard that chanting AUM (Om) could cause harm to anyone, male or female. On the contrary, chanting AUM and listening for AUM in meditation is to be highly recommended for all sincere spiritual seekers.
It is necessary to have a God-realized guru to guide us to final liberation. And there is also an important statement which says: "When the disciple is ready, the guru appears." How do you find your guru? Search and pray deeply. Ask to be guided to your guru and your spiritual path and you will be! In the meantime, learn to meditate well and daily and that will make you very magnetic and draw to you all the things you need for great spiritual progress in this lifetime.
No one has a tongue long enough to "stick up your nose." Except a lizard maybe. The tongue goes up behind the soft palate. Yes it helps with the practice of meditation. I have a video of someone doing this technique. Yuk. To find out more talk to David Warner at the Ananda Kriya Sangha.
I wonder if anyone who watched this actually practiced this technique Swami Kriyananda talks about? The one about pushing the tongue up the nose? Does this work?
This is called kechari mudra, and it is said that it helps a lot... To reach kechari mudra you have to do talabya kriya for some months. When you can touch your uvula with your tongue, then you can try performing kechari mudra, at first helping yourself using your fingers, then you'll be able to do it without using fingers to push the tongue inward.

I accidentally deleted your last post. My apologies. In answer to your question, Swami Kriyananda is not the guru. Paramhansa Yogananda is our guru.
