  • DAMN SARICH

  • You know, I never really took interest in religion and the whole Jesus thing at school. But I watched the whole of this show and for the first time ever, I actually understood what it was all about. OK, so I'm not bible bashing each day but, BUT, for the first time I think I actually get the whole Jesus thing. What a guy! It does not matter to me if he was to apparent son of God or not - he was a totally cool political activist of his time and I'd totally support him at that time. Love all x

  • this is wonderful...what a voice

  • this whole cast is insanely talented.

  • *there

  • Is no end to his range?! Frickin Heck! He's intense.

  • Drewdas Is the best.

  • HE WAS WAS SUPPOSE TO APPEAR!

  • Watched this so many times. One of the best productions, out there. :)

  • This is cool as it gets. The best of the best. Gimme more!

  • drew sarich is so fuxking talented its unbeleivable

  • I love Drew as Judas ;-)

  • aka that song where Judas discovers the 1990s.

  • @leoleeangel ...he's not a German trying to pronounce English. He's American.

  • Hey Jesus what do you think of mankind now ?

  • 3:23 best improved line ever "I'm asking you nicely"

  • They were way ahead of Victoria's Secret with the sexy angels, weren't they?

  • the choreo is just shit...at one part he looks like a peeing dog...fckin great voice though

  • Not bad, could have had a better ending!

  • Drew is such a cute dance =D

  • Amazing! I'm quite a fan of "Superstar," and have seen many, many versions and watched many, many clips and this is by far the BEST performance I have seen! The voice is fantastic. The acting incredible. - and he is having fun in the role! Thank you for posting this!

  • I love the fact that some people can sing brilliantly but can't dance for toffee. They're so cool they don't really need to try. It actually just makes them so much better - Drew Sarich, Kate Bush, Bananarama, Paul Heaton, Bono, etc etc!

  • @lkofron

    Drew Sarich can dance fine.

  • I love the fact that some people can sing brilliantly but can't dance for toffee. It actually just makes them so much better - Drew Sarich, Kate Bush, Bananarama, Paul Heaton, Bono, etc etc!

  • Easily the best Judas I have ever heard.

  • hehe i remember pradon in the lord of the rings musical as aragorn he was pretty good in that

  • im gonna be in JCS this summer, playing judas for two shows, and i seriously am using drew and carl as my inspiration. Drew is just so charismatic and this interpretation of judas in this scene is FLAWLESS

  • great version, great energy, captures the original attitude with the real meaning of the musical

  • LOVE IT!! I#m looking forward seing him in the easterholidays in vienna!!

  • @EricTylerFilms yay! the best! and the voice is awsome the singer! cool

  • From an artistic point of view, this is truly a great rendition! Thanks!

  • I am really becoming obsessed with the zaftig Judasette in the red gown. For a big girl, she can sure jiggle it in heels.

  • What is wrong with all you people that cannot enjoy one rendition without hating another? You are the same kind of people that have to tear down say Lady GaGa if you like Christina Aguilera...what not enough room in your brain for more then one artist? Have to push the other one out before you can like someone else? Know what? The Beatles AND the Rolling Stones are awesome! These guys here are awesome, as was the original cast, as has been several other casts!

  • @dwade1962eagle Spoken like a true artist and theatre enthusiast! well said!

  • This song was waay to big for Jerome Pradon... Carl Anderson NAILED it but Drew Sarich does an amazing job too. Awesome

  • @PetrK Drew Sarich, Austria 2005

  • This is just INCREDIBLE. I love and respect the show and grew up idolizing Neeley and Anderson's version, but Drew has redefined the standard for both roles and I can't believe my ears. Certainly, people will always want to hear more "grounded" versions that are truer to the original composition, but...wow.

  • Not a patch on Carl Anderson.

  • Gay Judas???

  • @szuperpeti Nah, just European. Haven't you heard the SONG? ;)

  • Wow! Great version. Who's that guy and which performance is this, please?

  • hell, I'm in love with this guy...

  • Great voice and performance by Drew..

  • amazing.

  • @ShadyxxLady Or Sweeney Todd---but he's a high tenor so I don't see that happening...or Colehouse...cause...well, he's whiter than Casper's ass. But yes, within his range (which is wide as hell), he's played pretty much every iconic character in musical theatre haha.

  • These are the sexiest Soul Girls I've ever seen.

  • @MORKOS621 Except the fat one, in the red dress :)

  • @szuperpeti She's sexy too.

  • @MORKOS621 THANK you! :D I think she's amazing, and kudos to the director for casting her.

  • "I'm asking you nicely!" hahahah, the best.

  • Drew Sarich is awesome!

  • @leoleeangel I love Jerome Pradon, he is brilliant singer and actor. But his voice doesn't fit for JCS and so in 2000 he had to stretch it to the point of ridicolousness.

  • @Silivren hmm i suppose you could say that and i do know that his vocal range is not the ideal for the part of judas, but i think that it just makes the theatricality of the film much better, because his voice is stretched he sounds more of the broken man, like it really is killing him to come to the decisions he is coming to, having to literally force the words out of his mouth cause he doesn't want to hear them and that he is desperate for any other alternative but thats just me lol :)

  • @Silivren You are kidding right?

  • @PureAirSolutions No, I'm not :))))

  • @leoleeangel i dont know what you are smoking, he doesnt sound like a german person trying to pronounce english, and hes doing original adlibs that no one else has done... oh also he moves on stage much better. and has better consistency and agility through his range.. other than that, you are completely right.

  • Comment removed

  • @leoleeangel u r so wrong. carter has a REALLY horrible accent and sings across this whiny head voice/chest voice mix to boot. The guy in this video's voice is smooth throughout his range and his accent sounds natural. oh yeah and he made up a bunch of new licks no one has ever heard before on this song.

  • Love Sarich... I'm madly in love with his voice, his acting, everything!

  • Brilliant acting and voice, but the red dress with wings gives the idea that we still don't know where to place Judas... Whereas I think that there was a reason in the choice of a white dress for him and his descending from above, in the film...

    (Bad english, sorry :D)

  • boy you can blow

  • @ShadyxxLady too bad is voice is completely wrong for the phantom....but....his acting....perfect!

  • This is so much better than the Broadway revival excerpt from the Tonys. I love the sleaze factor and the angel wings, and this Judas can sing and is charismatic. But that revival! Terrible!!Just goes to show you not everything on Broadway is good. It's disappointing that a Broadway revival wouldn't improve upon the original and in fact was not even close to being as good (check out the Tony award video from the original Broadway cast.- it's amazing.)

  • Great!

But nobody will be sing this son better than Carl Anderson!

  • he is a superstar..

  • Drew Sarich rocks!

  • Guess I have JJSS on the brain this week. ...great rendition...love the devilish angel metaphor :) I would love to see the whole opera.

  • Great song---n d singer kicks ass!!

  • Drew is amazing as Judas for the acting!! For the voice, it's a little strange...

  • This production is just tops... minus the Jesus...he wasn't very good. But Drew IS Judas

  • AMAZING musical. this guy is really good!!

  • esta buena la negrita

  • @ShadyxxLady

....i'm so ready for that now.

  • it wasn't soulful enough in my opinion. He was good but because i've seen other versions, He wasn't as good as i thought he would be.

I'm still impressed me though hes good :)

  • "I'm asking you nicely," haha, the best. He's such an unbelieveable talent. I love Drew :)

  • Best version i've seen of this song yet!

    Excellent!

  • Dies, dies, dies, dies, dies, dies, dies, and dies again. I love all the vocal riffs Drew does. Such a win.

  • @ShadyxxLady Drew doesn't need to play the Phantom. He's way too good for that show.

  • i dunno i like it in other versions that you take it that he is still goin to heaven in this one it looks like he is still going to hell.

    Its really good voicing though!

  • @sharosudo There seem to be two ways this musical is usually done. In one, Judas is bad, it's reflected in the tone of the songs. Like this one almost seems to be ignoring Jesus and almost teasing. In the other version, he is a doubter who really wants answers, but has no faith. In those versions he is more in "wonder" and honest questioning in this song. I like version 2 where Judas is just a faithless, curious man. (In those he usually wears white in the end and I like the wonder he has.)

  • @Chris2myfriends

No, in this song, it's not judas. It's jesus' vision of him.

  • @waxlaxo isnt it? o_O

  • Amazing Performance!!!

  • my god amazing.

  • drew sarich ftw

  • This is such a stylish production with great singing and great choreography, yet i can't help but feel that something is missing.

  • @donpaolo77 Drew's dancing skills?

  • great!! Senior Drew is fantastic in everything he is in, but this production lacks life, not energy..but life. I rather the Ben Vareen version-call me old school

  • Was this shot in Vegas? Sure looks like it

  • @Cerberuswaltz No, this was shot in a small town in Austria!

  • its not worth thinking anyone is going to be better then the original film. this version is alright but its not imho anywhere near carl's version which has soul and 'timing' with great precision as carl could also do jazz and soul very well. this is a good version and its a different version. most of the people who think this is a better judas are just bored of the film version after hearing for so long. there has to be something for the new generation.

  • I Love how he sings "Tell me what you think about your friends at the top" And dances over to Jesus, I LOVE HIM AS JUDAS!

He Does it so well, And I Think he portrays the perfect bad-ass Judas that Iv'e ever seen <3

  • I love Drew....He's so perfect for this role. Totally has the voice for it.

  • i think he is just poles apart from carl anderson, and i love carl anderson. but he aint even in the same league as drew.

  • He's got a good vioce, but Carl Anderson iss still ebtter. His voice is too high for this song in my opinion.

  • I still liked the 70s way of singing this song.

  • @ShadyxxLady OH GOD. Drew as Erik please.

  • The chorus girls have the sexiest costumes!

  • Ha, ha,ha,ha,........come on please.....no compare with Carl ( Jesus Christ Super Start 1973)

  • @5249north Be that as it may, but Drew Sarich is really good. I think each Judas threw a different spin onto it. By far the worst was the 2000 reenactment.

  • it was a real streach for our parent to listen to this and watch it but mine were great and it was one of the best things i ever say

  • Oh, Yeah, This guy can rock, He portrays the perfect Bad-ass judas, ROCK ON!

  • one word.

    AMAZING!

  • I hate to describe her this way, because of the unfortunate implications, but...

The thinner of the two women on red is really enjoying herself.

  • It's really not your fault that they put in a 'One of these things is not like the other!'. I mean, if they didn't think she would stick out because of her weight, they were mistaken.

    She dances well though.

  • I have no idea who this guy is but he did a pretty decent version of this song. He's no Carl Anderson, but he doesn't suck.

  • Exelente... Gran voz... Felicidades!!!!!!

  • judas,, hmm little michael jackson style?

  • Great choreography!

  • wie geil is das outfit!!!!

sexy outfit... he is one of the best singers in the world!!!

  • best judas ever! devlish :D

  • Stylish.

  • OMG!!!!!!! Drew Sarich is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • EPIC!

  • Excellent performer! great voice!

  • best judas ever D:

besides the one in the original movie.

he should've played judas in the newer movie.

  • Yeah, the new movie sucked.

  • @madderbass

    Eh, I don't know.

They were trying to make the emotion go through, which means that there had to be some cracked notes here and there. It was alright for what they were trying to do, but musically it wasn't perfect, which is what most people think constitutes a 'bad' musical.

    I've seen worse.

  • To be honest, I loved the movie musical, cracked notes and all. The only thing I DIDN'T like was Judas. Every once in a while, he had a lovely singing voice, but for the most part he was... nasally and just unpleasant to listen to. Since he clearly CAN sing well, I think it was a choice (maybe to make Judas seem a little less sympathetic? Who knows), but it was a bad one in my opinion.

No matter what, though, Drew will always be the quintessential Judas to me. :)

  • @phantomofhepiano Yeah, but the idea is that he was turned against good because of his bitterness towards God's plan of him betraying Jesus.

He pretty much snaps at the Judas's Death scene, where he becomes an antagonist, because he was so dismayed that Jesus was going to be hurt.

  • that was great

  • Drew is the best Judas by far, his voice is amazing.

  • Anyone else think that Drew looks and sounds like a Sky Masterson in this?

  • Just because he's wearing a fedora?

  • Just the whole performance, I don't know. The dancing and singing style, even the accent in some parts.

  • Id love to see that!!!!

  • Carl Anderson rocks, this guy ain't to bad though

  • He needs to play Roger in RENT.

    Fer shure.

  • i'd love to see him as Mr. Andrews in Titanic

  • Or, as Anthony in Sweeny Todd...

  • Wow!! Drew is an awesome Judas- his vocals are glorious and sound mostly effortless. And that tall black girl is smokin' HOT!

  • drew sarich is such a fuckin BADASS i LOVE it!!!

  • Love it!

  • ...so fckin awesome

  • Drew Sarich is Amazing, but that's no surprise he's always brilliant in everything he does!

  • Totally Agree!!

  • While all of my friends are going out trying to learn the "Single Ladies" dance, guess which one I'm learning? ...Yea-huh. ;D

  • the guy playing judas is Drew Sarich - he's amazing - at the moment he's playing the lead role in the musical Rudolf in Vienna

  • Who is this fellow? and what production is this? Lower Budget version of this show make me sad. But this is still a rather good Judas. Energy and Vocal talent ta boot.

  • I don't understand exactly. Are you insinuating that this is a low budget version? because as far as i can tell it is not, the costumes are first class and so is the set, and the pit is a full orchestration. There is projection, scrims, and lots more. what more could there be?

PS: thanks for uploading this video, drew's an awsome Judas, even better than his Jesus.

  • end all be all Judas

  • OMG... this judas is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!

  • ...he`s a god - goosebumps

  • ok if everything is predetermined then why should judas go to hell or anyone for that matter if they are are always destined to do what they did? Also if judas hadent betrayed jesus christianity would never had gotten started.

  • yeah, he's come back from hell... or so some versions show us. Others dont determin whether he went to heaven or hell.

  • does he still play judas?

  • So good

  • what i meant 3 days ago is i like it its interesting hes not the best like the 73s and 2000s

good actor but whats with the singing

  • can somebody explain to me the meaning of this scene? isn't it just taunting him? is that judas singing? isn't he guilty? why have they staged it to seem like a stage? don't people not believe in him after seeing this, both in the story and now?

  • I gather it looks like a stage because its a theater performance.. In some ways it is like Judas taunting Jesus, but he's basically asking Jesus all the "why" questions most people tend to have. Believing? Do you mean in Jesus? The single song is based on many theories about the history and area in which Jesus was from.. To conclude that you won't believe in Jesus after a single song simply means your faith isn't strong to begin with. I know plenty of Christians who love this musical.

  • yeah, i mean in jesus, but i can see why you would doubt him now, before the ressurection. And i thought judas was supposed to be racked with guilt at this point? ( btw thanks for the explanation)

  • Well, Judas has already committed suicide at this point in the musical. So basically, he's come from beyond the grave to ask the questions. It really isn't meant to be taken as Judas... rather, since his attitude the whole musical was wondering what Jesus was thinking, the song is just all the unanswered questions in the form of Judas. I don't think I'm explaining this very well, but I'm did my best..lol..

  • wow, i didn;'t realise he committed suicide! that makes a lot more sense now...thanks so much!

  • just wondering: what did u think happened to him?

  • i just thought he was feeling awful... but i hadn't seen the whole thing before. Yesterday i watched the suicidy bit, so i know now! i'm going to see it tommorrow actually!

  • Yah, and I'm one of them

  • i think i like this version of jesus christ superstar

    hes kind of cute

  • Oh he is phenom

  • they need to make a movie with him in it

  • Love this version.... \m/

  • oh my gosh.

that was the most amazing performance i've seen

  • He stole the show, lol!

  • Dude, the dancing in this, and the singing, is so intense. <3

  • omg! i have never seen judas looked like a devil....this is a very inteeresting costume choice...beautidul performance
