My dad was a cook county cop. He always worked security at the Rosemont Horizon for wrestling events. He met Bobby Heenan and Nick Bockwinkel in the locker room. He said they're the coolest guys ever, even gave my dad the last beer out of their cooler.
@casbah1982 dude, seriously, have some fuckin respect!!!! you're talking about one of the ten best in history!!! christ, what a piece of shit you are..... nick was & is 6'0 , 230-245... i'd like to see what u look like at 70yrs old... nick was an outstanding wrestler well into his 50s, just like thesz, gagne, & flair. seriously, fuck off.
i love this kind of promo. very focused and centers on the aspect of pro-wrestling. not just the aspect, but art by going into detail of how a hold is done. this gives the announcers something to work with and something that audience can watch for. simple and effective.
@markallenkellner Not sure. He prolly made an offer, but Bockwinkel would never travel that schedule at that point in his career. Mad Dog Vachon went though in 84 I believe. Nick did eventually go as an announcer in 87 I think it was
Bockwinkel is one of the true great Champions. The AWA was always knocked because of its territory, but Id put the AWA of the 70's and 80's right up against anything the NWA or WWf had as well
No...that shit is fucking dumb too. Any dumb ass can do a fucking flip off of a ladder. I'm talking about real wrestling...like Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, British Bulldog, even the younger guys like Benoit or Jericho or Malenko or Eddie Guerrero.
And with promos....compare a Ric Flair or Piper promo to most in the AWA.
In the early 70's I was at a house show and Bockwinkel not only stuck around after his match in the arena, but basically held court for an hour after his match and answered every question we had, even if it was a stupid kids question.
10 years ago I ran into him at an airport and I walked up to him, shook his hand and I still gushed like a little kid. Bockwinkel is a true class act. its still a shame that he has never really been given his rightful place in the pantheon of champions
Bockwinkle always was on the short list for the NWA World Championship, but he refused it due to the fact that he didn't like to travel. He definitely would have been a great NWA champ.
wow they should use Heenan in those WWE don't try this at home things.

Well spoken by the eloquent and loquacious Mr Bockwinkle. A most pertinent and convincing argument for outlawing the Gange sleeper.

@ 1:08 I love how the announcer stays silent and fixed on the camera while slowly turning purple.

When Heenan took his job with the WWF, did Vince try to snag Bockwinkel too at that time?

Booby Heenan was amazing on microphone always cracked me up Bockwinkel was outstanding to!

Did Bobby just call Old Verne a sleeper, lol!
lakecumberland 2 years ago
See this is what wrestling is missing today, Bobby the Brain Heenan was epic on the microphone. He's like the Don Rickles of wrestling.
TheArtofUTube 2 years ago 10
This is when it was more real. I mean a sleeper in real life is Killer! Just look at MMA.
Now, its just a warm up move, that seems to have no effect on anybody anymore.

How about Heenan's Member's Only jacket?

What?! Most of the AWA's stuff was terrible. Especially the matches. Those matches were brutally boring.

Sorry, I have no table, ladder, and chair matches for you.

Yeah, no comparison.

What about a Bobby "the Brain" Heenan promo?
DotDotkins 2 years ago
Yeah which is the only reason I even gave it a go to even watch this video. But you notice where The Brain went on over to.
Just like anyone else who wanted to be a success in this business during the 80's.

Good point tegrimm! Bockwinkel even toured the MidAtlantic, Georgia, MidSouth, and Florida as AWA Champ and those were NWA territories.
