the system is designed NOT to brake the vehicle - once it sense an obstruction (ie: collision) it applies the brakes partially (40%) so that the driver does not have to depress the brake pedal or aply full brake force - if the driver does not brake, the vehicle will slow down but you will still hit the obstruction
