This is a wonderful video, revealing the mystery and mystique of the Livraria Lello & Irmao that inspired JK Rowling in one of her Harry Potter films. We were there on August 4, 2011 but were not allowed to take any photos or videos. As I watched your video, I assumed you had a hidden camer, but I see that in 2007 filming was still allowed.
According to the Guardian, Lello is the world's 3rd most beautiful bookshop. But in my humble opinion, it is the world's most beautiful bookshop because, opposite to the other two, it was built to be a bookshop. The other two are a church (in the Netherlands) and a theater (in Argentina) which were converted to bookshops.
There is no doubt that Lello is the "most beautiful" church whatever the Guardian sayd.
I think I read that article and I´m pretty sure it wasn´t meant as a chart list. It just showed the top 10 most beautiful bookshops for the author, without comparing them to each other. They were randomly ordered.
Thanks for posting this! Being a book junkie who also happens to travel a lot I've seen a wide array of book stores and I have to say Lello & Irmao is absolutely worth the detour. The craftsmanship on the wooden panels is impressive and the staircase is something Escher could have come up with. A must if you ever go to Porto in Portugal.
Hey britoca, cool building. The stairs are really different and it looks like the ceiling is painted. Did you sneak your camera in the building inside a bag or something? What country is this in?

The fisheye cam is cool, but what a beautiful bookstore you found. Talk about creating an experience for customers.

hello, thanks for your interest. The ceiling is all relief. It's a bookstore in Oporto, Portugal, and they do let you use cameras inside.
