Et bien je vous en remercie, car je suis encore sous le charme, je viens de l'écouter de nouveau...C'est de loin la meilleure vidéo de ce duo de Berlioz . Merci pour ce partage
She's a self admitted "high mezzo" and a lot of roles that Berlioz writes are not exactly for any one vocal type (never too high, never too low), I personally find a lot of his female roles sound better when sung by a mezzo, but in the end it's just personal preference.
Forget Vickers---his stentorian bellowing style is not nearly as sensitive and appropriate as Kunde's. Not to mention Davis' wooden conducting. AND his execrable choice of Berit Lindholm who sings Cassandre as if she were Brunnhilde. Yes, Davis was the first to bring Berlioz' work to mainstream attention, but I don't think he ultimately "got" the Berlioz style very well, as evidenced by his second recorded version.
Kunde's musicianship and attention to blend is astounding when he sings the in harmony instead of trying to blast way. Wonderful sensitivity to phrasing.
"Nuit dívresse et déxtase infinie" is the title of this duett. It is rather the end of act 5 (i presume). You should listen the recording under Coli Davis with Vickers....
Magnifique scène !
