una verdadera joya ya que ese vehuiculo tiene facil mas de 60 años y es totalmente funcional!!! felicidades de verdad y muchas gracias por compartir esa maravillosa experiencia.
Awesome vehicle ! I wonder what kind of maintenance is required after a salt water swim like this. Does it steer with the front wheels or is just an instinct ?
@pablof59 The front wheels act as a rudder in the water.I imagine as long as all your seals are in good shape, all you'd have to do is thoroughly rinse it after running it in salt water.
i love this vehicle!have done since making the original tamiya kit back in the 80`s ; would love to own/restore one, but as less than 15000 were produced, they are pretty rare & therefore expensive.roll on the lottery win...! making do with the dragon 1/6 scale version....
@harrier21 cool, are you going to RC it? I wish I had the detailing skills to make models look excellent. I can build them but painting and weathering is a different story. I've seen schwimmwagens for around 50-60k in rough shape :) There was a guy last year who found in a norweigen forest, free for the taking!
@FreakCitySF nah,the plan is to make it as a restorred schwimmy as per my reference photos;truth is i`m primarily an aircraft moddeller ,so weatherring isn`t my strong point.i lwork on the tunnel,so get cheap trips to frogville;have checked out dozens of german bunkers & sites around northern france;haven`t found bugger all as yet!!!still, will keep looking...one day i`ll find my schwimmwagen!!!
@FreakCitySF - I saw a Schwimmwagen the other day on some Austrian website, for $200,000 USD (or maybe even Euros)...but then I think it had been fully restored...and well restored at that.
Was that a TROLLING MOTOR on the back????? This is the ULTIMATE lake fishing rig! Drive to the lake, unload the truck, drive INTO the lake, fish, rinse, repeat.
It probably wouldn't have been profitable for them... It would be cool though... Even cooler if they could reproduce the Kettenkrad (VW group aquirred the group that made them decades ago, presumably gaining the Kettenkrad patents in the process), but again, it'd be far too much effort for far too little gain...
Great to see these old warhorses being used (here in salt water no less!) rather than remain as trailer queens sporting 'Don't Touch' signs and fenced off at MV shows. Life's too short to do that! Kudos to you.
In salt water, yeah. So the guy would better double double everything in terms of maintenance. Otherwise, this VW won't last long, and that would be a crime.
Holy jesus don´t do this anymore with this car. The salty water will destroy it. Trust me. I own one of this cars.

If you are able to find one in good shape, it'll cost you around 110.000 Euros. They are extremely expensive, because there aren't many left...
