  • Nancy is such an inspirational character.

I mean, she has life pretty tough, and yet, this is how she sees it! Everyone should be a bit like that!

p.s no one can play nancy like shani willis!

  • lol i play bet in my school xD

  • Shani will always be the best Nancy.

More recent "Oliver" adaptations may be more accurate, but Shani will always be the best.

  • I like nancy because the girl who played Nancy at my school is bloody hot

  • @hsigler1 I hope your not the girls teacher

  • 4 people don't have a fine life. :I

  • I'd do Nancy even now no sweat

  • My third favourite Nancy song very cheerful

  • As a six year old in the cinema i apparently called out "has Nancy got a bwa (sic) on?"

  • Bill and Nancy's relationship breaks my heart :'(

  • @Indul1 The late, great Oliver Reed :)

  • When Oliver Reed appears with his shadow that is an awesome entrance...

  • who played Bill Sykes in this

  • Small pleasures, that's really all, Nancy's ever got...

This is just wonderful, i love this movie a lot!!

All these amazing actors and Dickens immortal story, great!

  • I never actually realized she was whore till now. Nice whore.

  • i wished it was a happy ending that she didnt die x

  • @hattieriding1 I agree, im 18 and i remember watching bits of it when i was little and i finally brought the DVD a few months back and watched it properly, i never ever knew that she died! Wished my mum told me! I was gutted!

  • @MidgetBuddie aww bless yeah im 18 too and watched it when i was little and then finally watched it properly 2 years, yeah same because that was the put off bit, as u now know its not really the happy ending always something bad happenes in these kind of films at the end x

  • @hattieriding1 Yes, that would have been great. Especially since she is probably the only person who would probably help Fagin in life, especially since in the song "Reviewing The Situation", Fagin sang that he would like to quit being a thief and get a job but felt he had nobody in life to help him and he knew nobody. However, maybe Nancy would have helped him get a job (at least in the Tavern where Nancy works as the Tavern singer where maybe Nancy could get Fagin a job as a bartender there)

  • I just got Nancy in my school play so I'm trying to rehearse the songs, excited! :D

  • @ShanonLeah Congrats!!! Toi toi! :)

  • @ShanonLeah Best of luck! :)

  • @ShanonLeah sane here soooooooooooo exited

  • i love nancy (:

  • best nancy ever fact!!

  • i miss being nancy so much... at my old school, i was the oldest... now i'm the youngest and i'm in the ensemble again... and I miss getting to have parts like this. Ah well, work back up, i guess :p

  • bill sykes was the ultimate master of "hard to get". Just Look at nancy.

  • I wish I had such a positive outlook on life. I mean, I have a pretty good life compared to hers. And yes, I do realise she is a fictional character...but u know what I mean!

  • Bill Sikes was so evil and disgusting....but also so sexy! :)

  • @MedievalTeach i totally agree. but i've always had a thing for the actor playing bill sikes. lol

  • i feel sorry for nancy bill treats her like shit throughout the play.

  • She's hot

  • @grgharrison9 Ermm she is not hot! :/ good singer though !! ;D

  • haha the nancy and bet in this one act like my school production actors. they have to be best friends but bet was a small part and nancy secretly doesn't like her.... or maybe it's just me

  • haha im trying out for the part of nancy next week at school! omg im killer nervous! :D

  • :( why did nancy have to die?

    bill sikes is a poobum

  • How I wish I could've sang this song for my choir audition!

  • did everyone fall in love with nancy when they were young? :)

  • @MrTonyInchpractice I did. She's a doll.

  • @MrTonyInchpractice Yes enough said

  • @MrTonyInchpractice all the guys fell in love with nancy and all the girls fell in love with the artful doger :) now that I'm adult I can say I now find Bill Sykes completely hot :D

  • @babyboosabz I'm a girl and I fell in love with Nancy.

  • @Miakosamuio LOL yeah I guess she does have that girl crush quality about her, she is a great representation of women and is so strong and sassy.

  • @babyboosabz haha... i'm not the only one! ^-^

  • @rumpleteazer1212 lol yep, i'm sure there's many people who feel the same :)

  • @babyboosabz They is so true! All the girls fell in love with the dodger and guys with Nancy; that is almost always the case <3

  • @MrTonyInchpractice Yup. I sure did.

  • @MrTonyInchpractice Yes, and I still love Shani Wallis as Nancy<333

  • @MrTonyInchpractice I always liked Dodger but yes I liked the character Nancy a lot

  • Bullseye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how Bill's like "go away, I just want to eat my soup...why am I in this freakin' musical??" lol

  • @taytay625 he came for the gin too, methinks!

  • @taytay625 Love it when he feeds the dog from his spoon. Wonder if that was scripted or improv.

  • @taytay625 there actually was 1 song done by bill sykes but it was removed in the final edit prob because they wanted to keep him dark

  • Id like a go and Nancy and her pals behinds!

  • I was just casted in my school's play as Nancy and I am so excited! :) I love this character and all of her songs they are just perfect for my voice!

  • the best Nancy ever

  • I have To Play Nancy In My Playy And Am Shit Scared <3

  • If this was ameriacan there would be some really cheesy overacted overplayed upon ending

  • hands down the best nancy and the best bill sikes by a clear mile. Oliver Reed really brought out the evilness that was Bill Sikes

  • Good luck jakapakka you never know where it will lead!

  • Forgotten what a great actor Oliver Reed is was

  • @jnmklo9 im playing bill sykes in our college production- should be fun =D

  • at 3:41 she kinda looks like julie andrews

  • Who would deny you small plesures? Wait for the day when everyone in the box is bleed dry.... bloody fascists.

  • God, I watched this soooo much right before auditions for school play of Oliver. Oliver turned out kinda badly, so watching it now, a year later, is reminding me of when I didn't know what would happen and yeahhh... :(

    SOmetimes i love the unknown.

  • AND IT'S SOO TRUE!

  • I love this nancy! x

  • The man who played Bill Sykes played as the trainer on Gladiator.

  • @ac120479 OH YEAH! :L

  • Who plays Bill? I mean, he could make a great Edward Hyde if he was still alive, and if they were tending on making a movie out of Jekyll/Hyde.

  • @RosesNightengales

    Oliver Reed

  • @RosesNightengales Oliver Reed. He only got the part because his uncle Sir Carol Reed was the director.

  • @JuanMacready Oliver Reed said he wouldn't have accepted the role if that were the reason

  • Sykes and Nancy are the textbook example of relatively nice girls going for violent thugs.

  • does anyone think that this could be done again? I reckon hugh jackman would make an excellent bill sykes. especially with his background being in musicals.

  • @kophamel Not a question of "could", more of a question of "should". I'd personally say no.

  • Shani wallis didnt portray Nancy, she became the character, she eally brings me into the story with so much empathetic connection with her from her brilliant performance, without her, the movie would have still been okay, but she brought so much to it. Long live Shani Wallis

  • A great British film with some even greater songs...............

  • @Indul1 It's an American film actually.

  • @JuanMacready It's just slightly an American film

  • @Ealenno It was filmed in England but was finaced and distributed by Columbia.

  • @JuanMacready And everything else about the film was British

  • @Ealenno It was a Hollywood movie made with American money.

  • @JuanMacready Excuse me dear!!. It is an entirely British Film! with limited backing from the American dollar, including talent. And about as far from Hollwood as the average American.

  • @nickyact1 This film was financed by Columbia Pictures.

  • Some youtube shitface just said that Oliver will not buy Meesh sweet red roses- You dumbass- SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • A bit like the comment by JuanMcCready, I got the part of Sykes at the school production where my brother taught. I did not attend the school but I was all they had. He told me I was more like Dirk Bogard than Oliver Reed. Sykes is a psychopath and I think each one who played him from Lean's 1940s black & white (Robert Newton) to Polanski's (Jamie Foreman) including Reed captured the animal that was Sykes perfectly. I had to sing a solo as Sykes! I just could not see Reed doing that - did he?

  • Bill is the strong, silent type. Gary Cooper would be proud.

  • Many ways I love Nancy: 1) Good person 2) Looks on the bright side of life 3) Sticks up for what she believes in 4) Friendliest bar tender

  • Shani Wallis did a great job as Nancy. Thank you for uploading this song

  • Bill Sykes is the reason I think sideburns are evil.

  • The BEST Nancy I have ever seen. I cried as a child and I still cry today.

  • Oliver Reed sucked as Bill Sikes, he only got the part because his uncle was the director.

  • I'm doing Oliver Twist for a school play and I'm Nancy ! ! !

This song seems hard to sing but I have to do it :\\

I'm an okay singer but I'm actually really scared to do it :\\

  • @mollzo999 samezz we r doing oliver for our play 2 but im not nancy

  • When I was younger I was in this at a college and I always hung around with the guy who played Bill, he would give me piggyback rides :3 He was so nice

  • RIP Oliver Reed

    the best Bill Sykes ever

  • funny how skyes dosent seem too care much about his wife or gf until she betrays him then he beats he too death Lol

  • too bad she dies D:

  • its a video of me because i think the dive is cool and were not in bikinis because on that camp we actually wern't alowed! :D thanks for your concern anyway! haha x

  • @pix042 you must have been a pretty repressed 14 year old. but then i assum your over 30 and your watching an oliver video, so go figure. x

  • @pix042 You don't know any 14 year olds do you? Do me a favour and sit in the back of a middle school bus. Listen to the conversations there

  • @pix042 maybee he just likes the song or the movie? i always loved this scene from Oliver

  • I can't seem to find the Oom Pah Pah song anywhere on youtube, I mean the version from this movie (Or I could be blind or something). Can anyone help me out?

  • IM NANCYYYYYYYYY!

  • lucky!(: im in Oliver! but i dont know my part yet.

  • Love this movie-fagin and dodger are my favorite characters. :)

  • top movie i even got the limited edtion dvd wiv its quiz and got full score..lol R.I.P ollie

  • Haha Same. R.I.P Jack Wild, also..

  • Really, on many levels, life is not much diffrent now than it was then. Values wise, anyway. It will always be a 'fine' life for most.

  • @pix042 Actually, I heard/read once that Dickens got the character of Nancy from a girl he worked in a factory with! His family was in bad debt, and in the poorhouse. He was a very young boy/teenager who worked in a shoe polish or (blacking in those days), and he walked to work with a girl like Nancy.

He based his character on her! He had an uncle who was a manager in the factory, and he would watch out for the boy. He needed the job to help get his family out of the poor house!

  • @loveoldsongs C. Dickens lived and worked among a lot of the characters he invented for his stories. Although many were wealthy, pretty people; a lot of them were from sad and seedy lifestyles and desperate situations! He drew them from everyday people he would see around him.

He would walk around and observe them as an adult. He'd see the boys working in poorhouses, people in bars, whole families living in the streets like many now!

  • @loveoldsongs Er, make that "shoe polish or blacking factory" in the first post, first sentence. I forgot to put that in!

  • a woz dodger in the play

  • WOO I'M GONNA BE NANCY!

  • same here :) (not in the westend production though obviously) xxxxx

  • same ;D

    on 25th november.

  • i remeber going to the movies to see this flim when it 1st came out many years ago and i watch it form time to time now and its just as fresh as it was then

  • I belive your confusing her life with your own upbringing.

  • There was no such thing in the 1830s.

  • You must be one silly person, ever heard of fiction??

  • Well, such brutality did happen and we know it is fiction. But we OBVIOUSLY read life into fiction.

  • Your humour is wonderful but your grip of 19th centiry realities is tenuous...to ay the least, guv.

  • Shani Wallis was too old for the part.

  • She dosen't rely, she enjoys sum of it coz otherwise she wudnt be goin out gettin drunk and that...

  • Obviously, Nancy, like all women (and men in relation to women) puts up with a rotten life out of love. Unfortunately, for Nancy, many times it is with tragic consequences (even Bill realises he has overstepped the mark when he kills Nancy and now his life is worth nothing). Nancy is an eternal optimist: the best kind of human being, after all.

  • There was nowhere she could have gone.

  • @pix042 yes and, i am nancy in the schhool christmas play!!!!! yay

  • @allyourmusicalneeds lol i am doger! ;)

  • Shani Wallis was perfect as Nancy

  • Im thinkin doin this song for our skool talent show

  • i sing long

  • This woman NAILED Nancy's personality.

  • @Stagekid288 I've watched countless videos of other performances of Nancy and no one can even reach the same universe. Shani Wallis IS Nancy. I'd love for anyone to direct me to anyone even nearly as good... no one seems to get the subtly, especially in this song.

  • L-O-V-E this musical! every song is just too beautiful :)
