Growing up as a kid in the mid-late 70's Saturday morning televison was a Big Deal...they really played it up...I remember each year the three networks would have a tv preview of all their Saturday morning lineups...each September (besides having to go back to school) was a real treat...

Well this looks like a completely forgettable, cheaply produced knockoff of Scooby-Doo that lasted only one season and had absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with the source material, basically just cribbing a character off it which managers thought had market value, and teaming them up with some generic typical teen detective characters of the era, in hopes of making a quick buck from some children without any taste.

@pika23 Those shakers were probably from the 40's or 50's. The Shmoo goes way back, long before that cartoon. The Li'l Abner comic, where the Shmoo originated, was really popular from the 40's to the mid 70's. They even had a theme park. Dogpatch. With Shmoo stuff all over the place. It closed in 93. Disney really ought to restore it.

If someone had never heard of The Schmoo before, by watching this clip alone I wouldn't blame them for thinking he was just another Scooby clone. H-B in the 70's ran that format into the ground. Capt. Caveman and the Speed Buggy were the only clones I really liked because they were so bizarro. I didn't get to see this Schmoo show much but I remember the later teamup with Fred and Barney, as Cops! Yeah, it must have been some mix of booze, drugs, and craziness for those animators.
