  • Evo looks stock as shit. As an Evo IX and RSX type S owner. Theres no way for a stock RSX type S beat my Evo on a launch or rolling start. The K20 on Civic, its definitely possible becuase my friend has civic with super charged k20. He smokes stock Evos all day long. If the Evo has full bolt ons + a right tune, even with the stock turbo, theres no way for stock k20 civic to beat it.

  • @mrblockboii i dont know about 22psi EVOs, but even in my 00 coupe with k20a2 swap, which weighs more than his 92-95 hatch, can beat those EVO's. but like i said. i dont know what 22psi would do to that EVO. bolt-ons is all that hatch needs with that motor. at the time, i only had an intake, and header, and stock exhaust killing power, and stock ECU. im sure in this car, it would do way better than i did.

  • @joescivic i think u might be able to clear this up. are those k20's only making the stock 200hp? if not... how? and i know power to weight ratio is good but how can thos civics beat evos when an 8th gen civic si does 0-60 in 7 sec and a 1/4 in like 17 seconds?

  • @ThrowdownPB51 the 06-10 Si is capable of 14.9 if you can drive it good. 15-15.1 is the average i see. same with the RSX-S. and the Si does 0-60 in between 6.3-6.7s. the 8th gens weigh 2890, where this hatch is about 2300lbs. its a big difference really.

  • A Honda K20 has about 260hp, ~10 less than the most common Evo engine.

    The Honda is also about a 3rd lighter, and AWD creates a lot of bog during acceleration as opposed to 2wd vehicles.

    Do it yourself on a 1/4 mile ET calculator. 2150lbs(~100 depending on model) and 260hp is a high 11 second time(*ET). Stock k20 motor. Not bad. Pure facts.

  • @5PYZ3R There is one problem with using an ET calculator. There are too many variable in the real world for it to accurately gauge an ET. Also did you count for drive train loss and any additional weight (ie fuel, driver, safety equipment?? And where do you get 2150 lbs from?? Plus getting a FWD car to hook is tough. I've seen a fair share of stock motor / almost full interior Civic hatches running mid 12's in the 1/4 mile with sticky tires and a good driver. Quick yes and definitely not bad.

    Not that tough to hook up, maybe once you get to about 400hp and up, but that really depends on the motor. We're not running turbo deisels here. Honda isn't known for torque.

    I don't really know where I got 2150 actually.. stock weight is closer to 2500.

    Yes I know there are many variables, that's why I emphasized 'ET', but it's not really that far off.

    Still it's nice for just a swap.

  • @5PYZ3R Depending on suspension it can be pretty tough with a FWD vehicle. Run a stiff street or road racing suspension and even with sticky tires & you'll still probably get some wheel spin off the line. I don't know many guys that drag race FWD vehicles but the ones that do tend to do a lot of bitching about traction (swapped Hondas w/ a turbo).

    And don't get me wrong even running mid 12's is still very nice for just a motor swap. =D

    k24a2- 200hp 166tq

    k24a1- 160hp 162tq (CRV) and the accord, and element have basically the same torque and power k24 motor

  • @ThrowdownPB51 those numbers are all advertised at the crank. what you see most people making, is probably to the wheels. when we talk about our cars, and after dynoing them, its usually dynoed to the wheels. it will make less to the wheels. thats the power you're actually using. so if you're making like 230whp, you will have about 255 to the crank. 230whp can be made with a 3" exhaust, good race header, good intake, and RBC manifold with a tune. just go to k20a.org. you can see 300+whp builds

  • I have a 1990 honda accord with over 338k miles on same auto transmission and only major job was a timing belt change at 219k miles. Now, my 1997 Mazda 626 transmission went out at 73k miles.

  • You guyz are right. That civic is about 2000 lbs at the most, all-motor so it can rev harder with no waiting on a turbo lag. The Evo weights at least 3200 lbs plus i would guess the motor is still stock. 22psi on a stock evo or sti is pretty much the easiest thing to do to make those cars fast right away but would be too late vs a car with the type of quickness the hatch shows.

  • @bkellum89 my point...there's not much to it. but driving is more than just steering a car. put someone that actually drive the car well, and chances are you'd see a different result. i'm assuming you drive a honda since you're defending the hell out of them. you'd be surprised the amount of boost you can run on stock 4g internals. if he has forged internals, you're looking at maybe $800. the valvetrain is stout as hell on evos, which is why a lot of us DSM guys like to use those springs.

Not trying to argue,but just because your against Hondas dont act like its a slow car or something. 250whp in a gutted hatch will hit low 12s all day long. I know how much boost a 4g63 will hold,I ride in one every other day in an Eclipse GST on 17psi...Boost doesn't matter,horsepower does. You can have 20psi on an Evo and make 400whp and 20psi on a K20 making 600whp depending on the setup,its not all about boost. I drive an Integra GSR ;)

    the K20 is a 2.0i Vtec and although there is Integra engines and S2000 ones but its better than the engines of the Eg era like H22s and B16s and shit. Plus in a Eg the power to weight alone changes the spec you read on wiki. I think tbh its a cmon thing more than the Best engine swap, like corsas with redtops or Ax's with saxo Vts and all that jazz...

    You need to do a little reading on cars before you make statements. Subaru doesn't make the Evo. Evo is still a sedan, not a hatchback and never was a coupe. DSM and Subaru are two different companies, in fact they are rivals.

  • Mitsu is bad based on what? If you've owned one and had a bad experience then ok. Even then don't generalize. I'm not saying the Civic is a bad car. It will definitely beat the Evo in terms of durability and longevity. But you can do anything to an Evo as well. Look at the beating they have taken from tuners for the past 17 yrs. You call the Evo's styling tacky. How about the Civics with bodykits and wheels that cost more than the car itself, and no money put on performance?

  • I would hardly call an Evo low end considering it delivers performance of cars costing twice as much off the showroom floor. If you want to call the STi low performance, that's fine. But a Civic isn't a performance car, unless it a Type R or something.

    If you remember before the Evo came to the U.S., it was one of the most sought after cars to come here next to the Skyline, STi, and Sylvia.

  • True, but you can run 22psi on an otherwise stock Evo and not get much improvement without an exhaust mod and such. I did read about that 240hp Civic Type RR. I would actually get it if it is like that off the showroom. Imagine a turbo on that! I just hate how torque is only 160, and probably at a high RPM.

  • You have a valid point, but you are underselling the eg. However, so is the owner of the car. That is not a stock head on the car. The vtec changeover is far too aggressive for a stock k20. The evo is oversold. a lanevo8 boosts from the factory at 19 lbs. It has a boost controller to make the car run as it was designed, as the car is deturned by Mitsu for the USA. The hondas fast, but the way everything is set up in this vid makes it see like it is an ubermachine. All said, very nice street car

  • Comon man, first you cant hear the change over point at all, 2nd a car that has a good tune will never have an "aggressive" crossover vtec point infact it will cost power. Remember a K20AR is 220hp in a light hatchback with a semi gutted interior. Also, the guy saying "most" civics with swaps dont have front end suspension work is a retard. Some, maybe yes, but it would be rare to see one.

  • engine swaped civics are kind of a joke .you almost never see them race from a dig .because most people just swap the engine in and dont bother to work the front end to get traction with it . reason most of them are only good for making a roll race for youtube ..not working the front end is just stupid cause no real race starts at 30 mph . in this case that evo would have destroyed that honda from a dig witch imo is the only real drag race .
