For v Wade guarantees a right to abortion in the 1st trimester. In the 2nd trimester each state has the authority to restrict it however they want. Abstinence is still and always will be the best and safest option. Rape victims don't fall into this category but the other 98.9 percent do. @kornelious2010 That would be a good solution. I don't have sex for medical reasons, & I never will have. But to say that people should remain abstinent is a somewhat impossible ask for most people. Even people from the early days, centuries ago, when pre-marital sex was shameful, it still could not conquer the lust or love felt between two people. It'd be good if the world was perfect, but we must accept it is not. Forcing every pregnancy to continue would be disastrous on economics/society too

Ok, reagardless of consciousness, the fetus is still a human being with all the genetic make up needed for life. So its hard to agree with those who believe its ok to kill 1000's of kids every day because they have a right to selfishly choose. That doesn't sit well me. This way of life that is being forged with the right of choice is not going in a positive direction. I'm not condemning anyone, i just think we all need a serious dose of perspective on a global scale.

@rightnearthebeachboy I don't know where you got your facts from, but ectopic pregnancies are few and far between. The truth is these situations are very grave for both the mother and the child as both lives are at risk. In most cases the doctors remove a part of the fallopian tube inadvertently killing the fetus. On rare occasions, mothers have insisted on proceeding with the pregnancy basically wager their lives one their child.

Okay assuming we can't save the fetus in any way possible whatsoever, then it would only be reasonable to remove it. If we surgically remove the fetus from the mother in this case we are not committing abortion. If its death is already predetermined then removing it is not the same as aborting it because it already doesn't have any chance to survive whatsoever. That would make this scenario not applicable to abortion.
@goul1987 It's still aborting a pregnancy. It's ok to be anti-choice and still recognise that for health reasons, when the foetus will certainly die, and the mother has a good chance of dying, it is ok to do the only thing possible - remove the pregnancy. Maybe one day there will be a way to move ectopic pregnancies but in the mean time, abortion is the only safe and life saving answer.
I don't see that as abortion if the fetus has no chance of survival whatsoever. If this were the only type of abortion happening I would be willing to accept it, but unfortunately it's not. Unfortunately people will use this extreme case to justify every kind of abortion out there, including post-birth abortion.

I am glad you, although you don't agree with abortion, realise that in cases where the mother's life is at serious risk, and the foetus too, you agree it should be legal. They are just in the middle, my mum says one minute "oh I don't know" then I say "What if it happened to me and I was pregnant and didn't want it?" For v Wade guarantees a right to abortion in the 1st trimester. In the 2nd trimester each state has the authority to restrict it however they want. This angers me.... I wish I worked in a hospital. Because I would hold these lil babies and I just might would of tried to take the baby to a NICU unit. To try to save its life if the baby was 28 to 32 weeks or older. If I couldnt save it. Then place the baby with a family who cant have children. And atleast I tried. Abstinence is still and always will be the best and safest option. Rape victims don't fall into this category but the other 98.9 percent do. Its ironic how the best solution for big problems always seems to hide in plain sight. The solution is definitely possible just not probable. It comes down to choosing for yourself or the betterment of others. Ya people make mistakes, it doesn't mean the little guy should take the fall. Just like our current economic crisis haha

@kornelious2010 That would be a good solution. I don't have sex for medical reasons, & I never will have. But to say that people should remain abstinent is a somewhat impossible ask for most people. Even people from the early days, centuries ago, when pre-marital sex was shameful, it still could not conquer the lust or love felt between two people. It'd be good if the world was perfect, but we must accept it is not. Forcing every pregnancy to continue would be disastrous on economics/society too

Ok, reagardless of consciousness, the fetus is still a human being with all the genetic make up needed for life. So its hard to agree with those who believe its ok to kill 1000's of kids every day because they have a right to selfishly choose. That doesn't sit well me. This way of life that is being forged with the right of choice is not going in a positive direction. I think most could come to a consensus the surgical procedures that saves a mothers life but indirectly aborts the baby's has a positive side. Better the mother lives than both die right?..ok great, but is this procedure still abortion? The truth is these situations are very grave for both the mother and the child as both lives are at risk. In most cases the doctors remove a part of the fallopian tube inadvertently killing the fetus. On rare occasions, mothers have insisted on proceeding with the pregnancy basically wager their lives one their child.

Also I think of it like this: If they did their best to try and save both of them and the mother ended up dying, it would be of natural cause and it would then therefore be nobody's fault. I would never want that to happen but like you said it could (I've never heard of it actually happening). If we choose to kill the baby instead, we are making a conscious decision to murder the baby. It's not dying naturally. Purposely murder one vs attempt to save both. Which is better?

If it dies naturally outside the womb and we don't commit abortion and the mother lives then it's nobody's fault and the problem is solved. Okay assuming we can't save the fetus in any way possible whatsoever, then it would only be reasonable to remove it. If we surgically remove the fetus from the mother in this case we are not committing abortion. If its death is already predetermined then removing it is not the same as aborting it because it already doesn't have any chance to survive whatsoever. That would make this scenario not applicable to abortion.

It's ok to be anti-choice and still recognise that for health reasons, when the foetus will certainly die, and the mother has a good chance of dying, it is ok to do the only thing possible - remove the pregnancy. Maybe one day there will be a way to move ectopic pregnancies but in the mean time, abortion is the only safe and life saving answer.

They are just in the middle, my mum says one minute "oh I don't know" then I say "What if it happened to me and I was pregnant and didn't want it?" (she knows how severe my depression can get so knows how scary it is when I'm down) and she changes her mind instantly to "I would support you, it's your choice." My mum believes in Christianity but doesn't know a thing about it.
