  • Coyote! I'll be honest. 400hp wont mean much if it increases the weight of the Mustang. And... I am hoping for direct injection and small turbos for better MPG. A V8 version of the ecoboost. If it is both lighter and more efficient, I could see upgrading to the new stang.

  • My dear americans, you don't need V8s. Why every american car MUST be a V8, seriously, consider other options. Think Japanese in crisis times. Use Europeanised engines, straight six and fours, and diesel engines in general will be useful in this times.

  • V8s are as american as apple pie, we're not giving them up for better or for worse unfortunately.

    Hopefully the V8 moves to the niche market while we commute in diseals and hybrids.

  • I'll pass on the commute options. I like to enjoy my drive. And diesels and hybrids are not exactly fun cars to drive.

  • Exactly! my commute to and from work is one of the best parts of my day! I love to drive. I think the only reason why people hate it is because they have convinced themselves that it's a chore. And likewise buy the cheapest, most economical (no frills) option, instead of something fun to drive.

  • I dont know where you commute but the commute where I live consists of stop and go traffic jams... You could be sitting in a Ferrari and the commute wouldnt be fun.

  • I live in Portland Oregon. It's like that here too. I've just learned to take the longer "scenic" route. And avoid all the major roads. And even if i was stuck in traffic, that still wouldn't be that bad (especially if i had a Ferrari). Think about it, It's the only time in the day when i get to listen to MY music, however loud I want to play it. Sitting in a chair that i would like to sit in, with the temp set where I want it. Instead of compromising with everyone else.

  • It's also the only time where i get to be by my self, instead of with a million other people.

  • well yeah the commute sucks if your car sucks. I just have fun trying to find my sweet spot for clutch engagement, even when i'm stuck in traffic. I love to hear my turbos spool everytime I accelerate, so sometimes ill just lag behind and punch it just to watch peoples faces when she goes, shhhhh. But on the weekends it's all about finding some AutoX or some sick back roads and making my palms sweat!

  • i thoroughly agree, the v8's that ford continues to produce are very low tech and very inefficient whether you look at it from the mpg, rpm, or hp/liter stand point. single-cam-push-rod engines are a thing of the past. gm tried to and succeeded at a cheap, fast, 4 banger in the form of the cobalt ss turbo...granted it is a toyota derived engine but the american people have not realized that low-tech v8's are old news. the 1uzfe by lexus/toyota should be a bench mark for all v8's

  • i saw online that the 2008 models that are left over are being sold for $27,000. and i also saw on cars com that they're offering a 3,000 discount on the 2008's. so $24,000 a really great price for a great handling 275 horsepower sedan, but i bet i can haggle it down even lower.

    thanks for all your help derek, i would never have considered buying the g8 before i knew how cheap i can get it. it's so much better than any of it's competitors anyway.

  • It's kind of response to BMW's twin turbo V6. This kind of German engines have no turbo lag like Evo or Impreza for example.

  • This kind of engine CAN deliver performance. BMW M5 and X6 M will have 4.4 litre TT delivering 555 HP. Also, Nissan has followed this trend with the engine in GT-R.

    The thing is that a these turbocharged engine have about 100 lb-ft torque more than NA ones. And if there is no turbo lag, I think this is the way to go.

  • Yea, I dont say "they cant"! But thing is, for example EVO's NINE top spec model had 400bhp with only 2.0 engine... Yes, it did have turbo lag, but... you got 200bhp per litre, unlike BMW's 125bhp per litre. I know my N/A car does not have so much torque like turbo car, but it makes 125hp per litre too, without a turbo...

  • turbo is a lazy way for car manufacturers to be able to boast about their numbers.. Anyone can install a turbo..I dont take cars with turbo seriously. Put a turbo in any v8 muscle car and the numbers it will pump out will make a mockery of these hybrid,fuel economy friendly sorry ass 4 cylinder excuses for sports cars. Unplug the turbo and how much hp and tourque does that EVO produce?

  • You say turbos are lazy ways to make HP, The 4G63T in the EVO costs more to make and has more R&D than the 3 valve V8 Ford. How easy is it to make a SOHC, 3 Valve, 280ci engine pump out HP. Nissans 3.8L will spank Fords 4.6L N/A. Talk about that. Porches 3.8L will spank Chevy's 6.2L N/A talk about that. I think the lazy scrubs are the ones who use an additional liter per stroke, with 2 more cylinders and still can't compete! That's what I call lazy. Using pure size and no engineering is lazy!

  • Your forgetting that most if not all American muscle cars come out of the dealer pretty much as detuned as they can be so that their eco friendly and somewhat affordable when it comes to gas and that goes for cars and trucks...A Japanese import already comes tuned for optimal performance..The amount that can be done with a V8 is almost endless.. You also make a point with the Porsche..Obviously German engineering is on another level but how much do their cars cost?

  • haha deTUNED. detuned means all taht's necessary is a retune, not true. They come built like crap, thats why heads and a cam net such great gains because they come from the factory like trash! Also 1.10-1.3lb/mile of CO2 emisiions is not eco friendly. Also the 3.7L V6 VQ37HR from the 370Z pumps out more HP than the 4.6L V8 in the Mustang GT and costs the same! Dude face it bro.

  • All I can say is go hop in a 370Z, take it for a spin and then go hop in any recent muscle car..Come back and tell me which one gave you a bigger thrill... I dont care what stats you try to throw here...the power delivery,instant power at any rpm and the sound of a small or big block V8 just cannot be matched by any Japanese import....

  • You sound stupid, you are making excuses. Numbers don't lie. What you find as a thrill is completely subjective. You know what I find as a thril, finding some crazy winding back road full of pot holes and trees on both sides, and blasting down it between 80-100mph, in a VR4 or import. Going in a straightline is only fun the 1st few times you do it. Bending 30mph corners well past 70 and having the back kick out in a AWD car, is what I call a thrill. Fast cars go straight, fast drivers track race

  • I own twin 16G vr4 pumping out 432awhp, and guess what, after I got used to the power it became BORING! hopping in a 300hp car will do nothing for me V8 or not. Highway racing, and straightline racing loses is visceral thrill VERY rapidly, bending corners climbing to 90+ then stomping on the brakes and holding the wheel like crazy as it shivers side to side, slowing back down to 40 just in time for another corner takes a lot more balls, skill and is A LOT more fun. Thats what Z's are for.

  • you say Japs cheat or whatever with turbos and you say turbo V8s will crush imports. Which admittedly they typically will. But check the numbers! the AMS 2.3L I-4 pumps out 1250awhp! thats a whopping 543.5 hp/L, Chevy's 7L would need to make 3804.5whp, with off the shelf parts just to match that efficiency and build quality. Dodges 8.4L would have to make 4565.5whp to match that. Ha ha, talk about engineering or lack there of. Don't make me laugh!

  • You forgot to mention all the euro NA engines that get regular assrape when it comes to japanese Hp/l . Ferrari engines cost ridiculos money on what usually amounts to barely more than 100hp/l. Jap turbos FTW.

  • It's no more of an inhouse pretuned car than a Z06, BMW M, Merc AMG, or Cobra.

  • German enginers say: sporty car should have more torque so you can accelerate form low revs in any gear- sounds like true! I do agree on that!

    Japanese enginers say: sports car should have many horse powers and torque does not matter cos when you racing- you do it on high revs where torque does not matter, for example F1 cars dont care about torque, it's all about high revs= high HP rate!

    Difference is:

    jap cars- track cars

    german cars- city cars

    (performance ones I mean)

    Japs more "extreme"...

    Turbo dont give like "+100lb-ft"

    It depends on the engine and turbo size (and many other things ofcourse)

    Usualy turbos add +60% torque and HP compare to exactly same N/A engine

    But latest BMW's engine use just small boost, plus about 15-20%, what makes turbo more smooth and reliable, unlike EVO's or Imreza's +100-200%
