Hang on. I used to play this game a lot as a kid ALWYAS as Knuckles on my Sega Mega Drive. I got to Sky Sanctuary Zone, defeated Metal Sonic and then Knuckles gets onto a place piloted by Sonic and they end up on the Floating Island and then the credits come up. How can you get this far as Knuckles?

did ya read the description? anywho,

you go to either the swings in angel island zone (or if's just S & K, the lifts in mushroom hill) and press left 3 times, right 3 times and up 3 times. if it is done correctly you will hear a ring. pause it and press A to go back to the title screen. for stage select hold A and press start.

there was a button code you had to input before the title screen (the part where you see sonic jump at you in a black background) I can't remember the code its been a decade since I did it also you have to be very fast to do this.

you are right on. the code you're thinking of is from sonic 3 by itself. that code is up (2x), down (2x), up (4x)

to get stage select in this game all you have to do is go to mushroom hill and hang from one of the lifts and press, Left 3 times, Right 3 times and up 3 times. you should hear a ring sounds. Then pause the gama and press square. When it resets select you character and hold square and press start.

on gamecube in s3&k on one of the zipline things in the angel island zone act 1right after you start, when you are on it press left left left right right right up up up then pause and press b to go to the s3&k menu and scroll down to "SOUND TEST"

warp to mushroom hill zone act 1 2 works then go on one of the lift things and press left x3 right x3 and up x3 then go back to the stage select menu and highlight the place you want to go to the hold b down and press start, keep holding down b until you can move sonic tails knuckles the press b to go upsidedown a to go in debug mode and press a to be your character and press b in debug mode to switch the item you are and press x to place an item, out of debug mode, x is now jup and spindash

Act 1's boss is impossible due to knuckle's hight issue, and I think your buggered if you lose your rings in the third part of act 2's boss for simmiar reasons.

act 2 reminds of Super Mario Galaxy Mario in the game could go right side up or upside down but also go sideway which you can't do in this game but now Knuckles can go fight Robotnik in Doomsday Zone

It's awesome to see Knuckles being able to defeat Robotnik himself to get back the Emerald. It seemed to make better sense to me, since it was Knuckles and his home that received the most damage from the Doctors actions on the island and with the Emerald. Great vid ^^

well knuckles game takes place after the death egg was destroyed, and eggrobo along with metal sonic v.2 were trying to steal the master emerald most likely to bring back to Robotnik, or maybe metal was going to use it for himself since it didn't hesitate turning into hyper metal sonic

Yes! You can but it doesn't work unless you do debug mode first. After leaving S3&K, it will temperarly still work even though you don't have debug now.

Excellent ok but one thing.. i dont know if anyone can answer this question.. in Sonic 3& Knuckles.. when you play with Sonic or Tales, during the battle with robotnic in Act 2 any stage he looks normal, but with Knuckles he always looks like a robot like redness or something.. i hope you understand what i am trying to figure out.

In all of Knuckles' Robotnik bosses (exept for the second Robotnik boss in Flying Battery Zone act 2), Robotnik is replaced with Eggrobo who is a mecha version of Robotnik. Eggrobo is also a badnik Sky Sanctuary Zone and he appears as a playable charactor in 'Sonic R' and the racing game to 'Sonic Adventure 2 Battle' (unlockable in both).

i don't know if you've seen the explanation for it yet but basically Robotnik isn't there its eggrobo and metal/mecha sonic trying to steal the master emerald though he might have been in flying battery zone since thats his flying fortress or it was an oversight, and knuckles story takes place after the death egg is destroyed
