i know the second one.we learn it in the school from physics.it's because of the sluggish body of the coin.the coin is sluggish so it doesn't moved.the sluggish bodies are the bodies which can't move and it can't be stoped if it "runs".we do the same with the paper and the glass of wather.we pulled the paper and glass didn't moved!and i know the third one.you can do the same with the pebbles.it's true and amazing.the fourth is because of the particles in physics.but it wannt stand any longer.

Well, I think the point with the straw and potato is you would expect the straw to just buckle? But because you keep your finger over one end, as you jab it, a seal forms with the potato and it stays rigid because it's full of air. Or something.

My results with a fresh, raw red-skinned potato (6 cm thick) and a cheap supermarket plastic drinking straw (approximate price: 1 cent):

With thumb over end: 7/8 successes

Without thumb: 6/8 successes

I attribute the 3 failures to hitting voids in the potato left by previous attempts. Otherwise, an unplugged straw goes through the potato just fine.
