Hey, for future reference. Baby turtles need warmth. They need a heater and they need a dry area with a uva.uvb lamp. Otherwise they either get a cold and die or get anemia and die from lack of nutrients in shell. Cant keep them in water all the time. Good luck next time. Also, feed them teeny bits of meat
u can just give them tropic fishfood that has alot of vibrant colors in the food that helps fish keep their nice colors, so they say it does the same to turtles
when your turtles were smaller, did they always pop up to the top to get air? i have two very small turtles and they act almost as if they cant swim! theyll go in the water and wont pop up to the top unless they can reach the top just by standing. theyll just strech their legs out. They WILL NOT swim to the top. even over the course of 20 minutes and im afraid of them drounding. : (
harold you misunderstand I wasnt commenting on the turtle in the video I was just commenting to a user below called dumaaaaaa who told me to read a book. He dont know how to look after turtles but thinks he does. I am sorry about your poor little turtle manputa.
What a plonker I have read many books and have more turtles than you dumaaaaaa I know how to look after them. I have to tiny baby turtles in a foot of water and guess what I still have them they are alive and happy and love to swim in that water and there is no obstacles they can get trapped near or under.
you omg.. i said that they can drown, but half a foot is NO biggie for them, you made it sound like they wouldnt drown no matter what.. thats what i was getting at..
1. turtles can drown! Small turtles, like this one, are too weak to swim directly upward to get air, so they use all their strength to get to the top, then they take a huge gulp of air. Many times when they're at the top but so tired they stop trying therefore they sink and the big gulp of air turns into a big of water X.X
2. If trapped underneath a stone of some sort they turn into hibernate mode.
no they dont drown thats silly. I have a 2 week old ybs in a tank that is half a foot deep and hes fine how the hell can they drown when they are aquatic turtles that is just propaganda.
I just noticed another thing in your video. Um, those tiny flooring you have for the turtle is way too small. He could die from swallowing one of those... It will block his airway passage and kill him. You also did not have an adequate filter going on there. The water was probably not clean enough for him to live in so there may have been disease that developed over time. SO hygiene may be another issue. Really, if you love them, learn how to care of them before you get them.
Um, I think your turtle died because you don't have a basking area for him to dry out. Your turtle obviously didn't have adequate drying area. I'm not surprise that he died. You're obviously not ready for another turtle yet. You should do a lot of research on red ear sliders before you get them. They need UVA light, and UVB lighting, basking light, basking area, and a healthy diet with mixture of pellets, livestock, and plants, etc... Living space is only one thing. Good luck child.
Hi all. I have cought a such kind of litle red eared turtle and i dont know how to take care about it. If somebody knows please add me in skype my skype id is snoopman2006 my name is sandro please all
hi! my pet mouse recently died :'( and i wanted a red eared slider..but my dad said yes and my mom said no..do u have any ideas how i can convince them? also is a 10 gallon tank enough for them? also can guppies live with them or will they eat them? thanks for ur help! and about their health isses and stuff...thx sooo much!
the RES is really hard to take care of, so if u just had a mouse, dont get 1. 10 gallons isnt enough... for a baby one, mabye, but they grow quick and u'll be wasing ur money. the turtle will eat the fish, unless of couse the turtle is retarded and cant catch them.
nice turtle i have 4 of them 1 is a full grown female that lives in a pond and i have 2 baby turtles and a 1 year old turle thats lives in a 60 gallon tank
nice turtle i have 4 of them 1 is a full grown female that lives in a pond and i have 2 baby turtles and a 1 year old turle thats lives in a 60 gallon tank
haha nice. Did they make you sign some consent form saying you were buying them for "scientific research". The place I go to makes me because they sell them sooner than they're suppose too, I have a picture of mine when they were about the size or a quarter.
Pyramiding is when the turtle recieves too much protein from pellets and it causes them to grow up faster then their shells let them. So then their shell starts forming into a pyramid shape, I'm not sure if it can kill the turtle but I know that the shell would probably stay in that shape forever.
forget what all of them told you to do. listen to me....
these are still babies, you need to put alot less water in the tank. and you need to have a "basking area" for the turtles, like a out of the water dock. and a UV light. and you should be fine
actually not to be mean but ur wrong. i did researching and asked some pro's and u need ALOT of water for the babys not too much but deep. If u dont the turtles can die and it helps them with excercise and swimming is important in a turtles life.Just like humans needing food. =P
just some pointers: you should put in less water, it needs to be shallow... they're only babies. they need to be able to breathe easier. and they need a spot to rest on land and "sun bathe" for warmth.
No you're wrong, I say that the turtle needs more water to swim since RES are great swimmers and in the wild the ponds get way deeper than the 2 inches of water there. I have had turtles for 6 years now so I know what I'm talking about. Also the turtle needs a filter and basking area where it can completely dry itself off.
Well...RES' are different, they're more land turtles and need basking ares to recieve UVB rays to be able to produce vitamen D3 and UVA that helps regulate the turtle's normal activities. Also, basking areas help prevent softening of shell and scute shed.

I've seen many incorrect comments on this page!

10 gallons should be enough
i have two in my 10 gal and their fine (babies)
They most likely will eat the guppies depending on the size of the guppie and etc.
Make sure you have a heater basking lamp/spot so they could bask, filter and the temp shoud be 76-85
+Their really fun :D

its shell is already pyramiding. i think youre overfeeding it.
beingiancansuck 4 years ago 5
@beingiancansuck
There's no pyramiding in his shell the pointy line in the middle is normal for baby RES and will flatten out as they get older
