  • I love the way she does the ending of this.

  • lol, i love how the chorus responds to her, beautiful!

  • Definitive. Brava Leontyne.

  • i love how she switches to chest!!! i used 2 b un-heard of in this song lmao! SING!!!

  • THE BEST RENDITION EVER RECORDED!! I love Audra McDonald's version but this tops!

  • Fantastic!!!!!!

  • Electrifying!

  • Breathtakingly gorgeous!

  • Leontyne is The Queen!

  • damn. you better sing that mrs price!

  • This remarkable song is from the "Porgy and Bess" album of the early 1960s (bringing together some members of a great 1950s cast). Skitch Henderson conducted. William Warfield was "Porgy." While "Bess" (portrayed by Leontyne Price) does not actually sing this song in "P & B," who cares? Price knocks this one way out of the park!

  • OMG!!! This is simply thrilling...masterful acting, masterful singing...when she drops into her chest voice, I just about fall apart. BRAVA

  • Though she sang this aria many times in her career, this is not only HER finest performance, but one of the best, if not THE best, since Gershwin penned it. .. Brava!

  • Fantabulous

  • genial.......

  • Boy, what a performance. The tears are just running down my face. She has a voice like a tornado, a volcano, and earthquake. What a force of nature. An inspired ending by Gershwin.

  • How young was she in this recording? This is the most pop and vibrancy I have heard out of Price's voice!!

  • @bigdigger87 Recordingis from the mid sixties. It is still available. Skitch Henderson conducted. Her singing of all of the soprano arias in the opera exploded on the scene and her singing of them is still unequaled nearly a half century later,

  • Are you sure this is Price? In the opera this is sung by Serena, not Bess, who was played by Barbara Webb. And Webb is listed in the cast of the album (which doesn't give track-by-track credits).

  • It's from a highlight disc made in the mid sixties. Skitch Henderson conducted and Miss Price sang all of the soprano characters.

  • @whkrause Ms. Price played Bess but she used this piece in some of her recitals and recordings.

  • The pitch was raised, something that may have been relevant to another celebrity.

  • WOW! This is the most unrestrained, impassioned I've ever heard from Price. Just amazing. Thank you to whomever posted it!!

  • @AriaDivina That's what we all thought when this recorded exploded on the scene. Miss price sang all of the soprano arias. The Recording is still available.

  • She's AWESOME. I can't stop saying it, WOW! The Lord God blessed her richly and through her, us also. Brava, Leontyne! Dio ti benedica!

  • AWESOME!!!! Sung from the bowels. BRAVA!

  • Flawless!

  • I would kill to sing like that!*************

  • This is the 1963 recording of excerpts with Price, William Warfield, conducted by Skitch Henderson, originally issued on RCA, and now available on High Performance,

  • Where can I purchase this recording?

  • ANYWHERE ONLINE...

  • I'll send you a copy. But it is still in print. You can get it anywhere. It was mid sixties.

  • Isn't this incredible?

  • wow. incredible. jealous.

  • Yes!

  • Nobody does it like Price. WOW

  • Gorgeous! What year was this recorded?

  • flawless
