Why do I have to tell it how many cells the battery has. I have a 5 year old LiPo charger, all I have to do is plug it in and tell it how many amps I want to charge it at.
@craig3008 so no matter how many time you charge a lipo with this in a row youre not going to ruin the battery? i know you cant do this with nimh's as it will ruin them.

One thing users need to pay attention to, is while charging, pay attention to how much mAh is put BACK into the battery after its been fully recharged. The general rule of thumb for Lipo's is to run them down 80%. NOT until they die out. Running a battery too low will shorten the life span of the Lipo. In the display, the lower right hand corner shows how much mAh is being put back.
My question is, is there any way to get my cell's to balance better or is it a sign of the pack getting weak? I have the same charger as you and charge on 5.0amps and 11.1v selected

Thanks for the great tutorial. I just bought the Turnigy Max80W 7A lipo charger but I couldn't find any tutorials for it. Can I use a 12v 6A lead acid battery charger as a power source. @steady2868 Sorry mate didn't see your comment until now. I bought mine from eBay too (£25 sounds about right tbh, I only got mine 2 months ago). The "manual" I speak of wasn't provided but I downloaded it from the web (Google "accucell 6 manual"). Might as well have not bothered - this video helped me more!
It also came with some leads but not the connector I wanted so I just bought the right ones from eBay for a few £. There are plenty available for all battery types.
If I have new 2100mah flghtpower EON-X Lite lipos 3s what is the most and still safe mah I can charge at. I have the same turnigy charger as you btw cheers
Craig - thank you for this video; it helps explain things in a much better way than the manual does! In fact, after viewing this, the manual now makes sense...
OMG, I just thought of a genius idea. You take a 12v lead acid battery and power the charger with it. Then you connect the charge leads from the charger to the battery.. Then you start charging. Free infinite power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
All joking aside, this is a really good charger indeed. I'm SO glad that I got it instead of one of the Chinese knockoffs. Charging is one of those things I don't like to skimp on as inconsistencies or incorrect voltage readings kills batteries.
@legalize000 no that is fine... the battery will charge at 600mah... not all batteries like being charged at 1C...(in your case 850mah) anyway...so that will work fine. As long as you have the battery voltage and cell count programmed in properly... it will be fine.
@craig3008 Hi there nice vid mate. I am wanting to upgrade to lipo, but I am really unsure of which specs to choose. I currently have a 3300kv brushless motor an a 75a ESC. what lipo and specs would you recommend for me. cheers
@860KHID I am using a computer power supply which is a 18amp switch-mode power supply. There are plenty of videos on Youtube about how to convert a computer supply & on Google. If you're inexperienced with electronics or feel converting a computer power supply is not for you, then you can use a Sealed Lead Acid battery which is rechargeable & can't spill acid. You just need to make sure the 12v supply has enough current (amps) to supply your charger/s while charing at maximum current.
@alxusmc No. That is incorrect. The charge rate is nothing to do with the rated discharge rate. You can charge MOST batteries at 1C...that is 1 x it's capacity in mAh... As explained in the video. You need to check the manufacturer website of the battery to check what the maximum charge rate is for your particular battery.
@craig3008 Thats what the battery says. "5c fast charge" and it has 6500mAh....wouldn't I charge it at 32.5 A? I thought 1c = (6500mAh=6.5A) so 5c=(6500mAh=32.5A)?? (im only trying to pick your brain as I am learning to use LiPos and I have purchased this charger) thanks
@alxusmc Ah ok. I've never really used a 'fast charger'. 32.5 amps. I've also not seen a charger for lipos that charges at anywhere near 32.5 amps. I fly a T-Rex 450 with 2200mAh cells so batteries that big I have no experience with! I'd be careful about 'fast charging'. Look around some of the forums & see what they say re fast charging. From what I've read it's not the best thing for the battery & is an option to be used sparingly. Unless you're in a hurry I'd recommend a 1C charge.
are there any videos to show charging a nicd battery? i have some old 6 cell 7.2v 1500mah batteries from back in the day and i tried going to nicd setting and charing at 1.5a.
I had to stop the charge cause i got worried when it started showing the voltage up at 9.01v after 8mins... (or is this normal?) also what is the count next to the time for?
@MrCalotherm Hmmm sorry I would not know... if the batteries are old...it's probably safer to fling them in the garbage and get some newer ones anyway... but I have no experience charing Ni-cads with a charger like this ...sorry.
There are several such chargers out there with different case decors, but identical UI.
My own concern is mostly how to understand to not exceed charge currents.
I did not interpret setting for example 2.2 amps charging current as in your guide to have any real life correlation with the 2200 mAh (milli Amp Hours) capacity of the LiPo battery.
@gunnarMyTube Most modern Li-po batteries are happy to be charged at 1C with no problems...that is a 2200 battery is usually fine to be charged at 2.2amps. In fact if you check the website of a lot of manufacturers you can even charge some at a higher rate however I would not do that all the time. You are correct however that the charge rate of the battery is NOT related to the capacity of the battery in all occasions. As I say for MOST modern batteries it's ok to charge at 1C.
@gunnarMyTube Actually thanks for reminding me...I've now added a text annotation to the appropriate part of the video to remind people of that. I will actually re-make the video to make it clearer over the next week or two. Regards, Craig
@RafaMoon Hi There, Yeah I use velcro with the sticky on one side. It doesn't hurt the battery at all. Just make sure you buy the stuff with the sticky on it. Don't go glueing the velcro..just use the velcro with the sticky on it. I've done that for an number of years with my Align helicopters and it works fine. Put the prickly side on the vehicle and the soft fuzzy side on the batteries. Regards, Craig
@nikhat1 Great! I'm glad it helped! It's a bit sad that the instructions are so bad for this charger isn't it? In fact my charger did not even come with instructions at all! You can get them off the net if you do a Google search however. Regards, Craig
i have a fully charged battery that i wont use for a while and want to discharge it to half for a 4 month storage...its 5000mah....do i simply plug it into the charger then select 2500mah, and the charger will know to discharge it to half its total mah?
the charger is an elysium pro....its functions are almost identical to the turnigy you have on this vid
Sitting here with my new GT power A6-10 and wondering how to charge.. turns out your charger have the same software as mine and you lipo is the exact same :)
craig you are my new hero ! instructions with my overlander charger are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard ! but after watching your guide no problemo .
@IceBlack406 balancing and charging are the same thing. You can choose to just push current in until it reaches the full capacity, or, when balancing, it does the same thing, but also supplies extra current to individual cells to make sure each cell has the same voltage.
Wait... You set the "lipo charge" parameters, then you switched over to the "lipo balance" parameters, and set those. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought lipo charge and lipo balance were 2 different methods of charging the battery, you don't need to set lipo charge if you are just going to select and set up lipo balance after. At least thats how the Thunder AC6 works, it and this seem to function a lot alike.
life-saver craig3008! the destructions i got with mine where just photo-copies of some very badly translated chinesse ones. your video made things very clear. thanks again!
Thank you Craig, a great explanation of the charger and balancing functions, much better than the Chinese English instructrions which are very hard to read and understand.
Maybe you could do something on the safe storage of the LiPo batteries in the future.
hey if i put my 2s 7.4v lipo on my 12v power supply i cant charge at any amperage's. I can only charge under 1 amp and it takes way to long to charge and i dont even know if its charging my battery i only have like 6 min run time!
Very helpful, thanks. I was charging without the main outputs connected just the balance port. So I was scratching my head trying to figure out what I did wrong. The Calibration video was helpful too
does this charger automaticly tell what the campicity is? because you say its the campacity but its actuallly the amp to charge the batt at? because i need to charge a new lipo at 2.5a its a 5000mah battery.
@tydb1 Hi there, you would need a power supply (12 - 14v) that has at least the current capacity of the battery charge rate you intend to use. If you are going to charge at 2000mah you would need a minimum 2amp charger - I'd actually use a power supply at least 500ma over the charge rate you intend to use. If you intend to charge at 1amp then at least look at using a 1.5amp power supply. Re connectors - these chargers come with everything from alligator clips to all manner of connectors.
@craig3008 I recommend a 12 volt battery or you can take an old computer take the power supply out and solder the green and black wires of the big plastic plug then take the black and yellow wires out of a different plug your yellow is positive and black is negative so black to black and red to yellow youtube can also help you out on this money saving project.
@MrBman54321 and you solder an 10W, 8ohms Resistor between red and black wires. Then put this resistor near the fan (reachs hig temp, need cooling) . This make your power supply more voltage stable.
Hi Craig! I have a similar charger and I followed your instructions on your Charging & Balancing video. I am receiving a "Input Vol Err". How to I solve this issue? What does it mean? Is this an error from my power supply to the charger? Thanks!
@helicub81 Hello. The charger comes with all necessary leads and connectors including a deans charging lead. In fact it comes with lots of different configurations so pretty much all your charging needs in the way of leads and connectors will come with the charger. I bought mine from Hobby King and it came with everything...I can't speak for what comes with that model from other stores. Regards, Craig
@luki01111 If it's a multi-cell battery (more than one cell) then yes it's a good idea. Otherwise your cells can get out of balance... and you wont get as much life out of your battery with each charge. It's important with Lipos to ensure that each cell is charged to the same point. So I would use balance each time. The 'charge' selection is there for single cell batteries as there is only one cell there is no cells to balance. Regards, Craig
@adampappy If you want directions emailed to you (I managed to find some and have a copy!) message me with your email address and I'll forward them to you. Regards, Craig
i have 2 question: 1- how i do the setup for 2s lipo, (limit charge time, capacity MAH, max voltage)
2 - if i charge my lipo using the CHARGING mode, when the lipo is full the charger make some beep and on display show FULL, but if i user the BALNCE mode, since the battery is full, its nos makeing the beep, stay charging using 0.0A and never stop as FULL charged, any idea?
Fair comment but its also miss leading to say in your video that the setting indicated is the capacity of the battery which implies that would you for example have a high mah Lipo like 5800 like I do, that it would be good to charge at such a high rate? It would be more apt to say this is the charge ampage as the instructions say. I appreciate you know your stuff but with the greatest respect many do not and there is a genuine area of danger here for those not in the know.
@thegeneral123 Yes fair comment! I'm actually going to re-make this video anyway (and make more) as I now have a proper HD camera. I'll make sure I clarify what you state that there IS a difference between the discharge rate of a battery and the charge rate. Fair point and I didn't clarify that enough in the video. I'll add something to the comments now :-) Craig
@craig3008 Thank you and otherwise a great video that was very informative. I have an Imax B6 on the way thats simply a different branded version of this charger. I use 7.4v and 11.1v Turnigy batteries for airsoft and use Deans connectors. I am especially pleased that this charger seems to be capable of charging NiMH batteries as well.
Sorry but you are wrong. The instructions clearly state that setting 2.2a is not setting the capacity of the battery but rather the charge current. By setting this to 1C you are pushing the battery at its max charge current and this is a bit risky. For the sake of safety and battery life preservation I would set the charge rate to half the Mah rating of the battery. 1.1amps for a 2200 Mah battery.
@thegeneral123 Hi there General. As for being 'wrong' well that's debatable. I have found plenty of sites on the net that claim it's fine to charge the battery at 1C. I contacted Zippy in the USA and they also assured me it's fine. I have also charged dualsky packs at 1C and again it's not been a problem. The batteries don't get hot or puff etc. It certainly wont hurt to charge them at a lower rate so you are not 'wrong' however many agree that I'm not either. Thanks for your comments.
This really helped me. Thank you so much for posting it. I am charging the exact same batteries too so your demo was especially perfect. Thanks again!
hey mate so this is all you have to do to safely charge and balance your Lipo battery and ittt is all done electrically for you once you set your batteries parameters, well it dont get it do some cheaper chargers let ittt up to chance or done manually that people have the problem with Lipo because hey this seem very easy for use ??????????
@WarhawkLegend69 Hello, yeah as long as you program the charger correctly and barring nothing unforeseen happening you should be fine. I recommend getting yourself a lipo sack or similar pouch to charge the battery in. They are a fireproof bag and in case of something going wrong they will stop you from burning your house down! Check youtube for them. You can get them on ebay pretty cheaply. The chargers are foolproof as long as you set them properly & take care of the batteries.
Really good vid 5*. I want to ask you, during the charging, (on every type of battery) does the charger shows you information's about the status, (battery Amperes, and voltage?)
@sp5201 Hello there! If you press the Right and Left arrow buttons while it's charing it will give you some info like cell voltages etc... I hope that helps! Craig
When you say you are debating whether to get one...what do you need it for exactly? They do not blow up if you treat them with respect. They need a special charger that monitors the condition of each cell in the battery and a lipo should never ever be allowed to over charge or over discharge. What use did you have for a lipo? Mostly they are used for remote control helicopters, planes, cars etc..
i have olso the zippy lightmax 25c like you but mine havent got the same conettor like yours i have of those yellow JST-XH and i want to build a EXI 450 what do i now need to do.

I have a 850mah 7.4V battery and now own one of these chargers, but i just found that it doesn't go any higher than 600mah.
Is their anyway around this or do i need to get a new battery?
Thanks
legalize000 1 year ago
@legalize000 no that is fine... the battery will charge at 600mah... not all batteries like being charged at 1C...(in your case 850mah) anyway...so that will work fine. As long as you have the battery voltage and cell count programmed in properly... it will be fine.

You just need to make sure the 12v supply has enough current (amps) to supply your charger/s while charing at maximum current.

so a 5c capable lipo thats7.4 V & 6500 mAh means I can charge my battery at 32.5 A??
alxusmc 1 year ago
@alxusmc No. That is incorrect. The charge rate is nothing to do with the rated discharge rate. You can charge MOST batteries at 1C...that is 1 x it's capacity in mAh... As explained in the video. You need to check the manufacturer website of the battery to check what the maximum charge rate is for your particular battery.
craig3008 1 year ago
@craig3008 Thats what the battery says. "5c fast charge" and it has 6500mAh....wouldn't I charge it at 32.5 A? I thought 1c = (6500mAh=6.5A) so 5c=(6500mAh=32.5A)?? (im only trying to pick your brain as I am learning to use LiPos and I have purchased this charger) thanks
alxusmc 1 year ago
@alxusmc Ah ok. I've never really used a 'fast charger'. 32.5 amps. I've also not seen a charger for lipos that charges at anywhere near 32.5 amps. I fly a T-Rex 450 with 2200mAh cells so batteries that big I have no experience with! I'd be careful about 'fast charging'. Look around some of the forums & see what they say re fast charging. From what I've read it's not the best thing for the battery & is an option to be used sparingly. Unless you're in a hurry I'd recommend a 1C charge.
craig3008 1 year ago
@alxusmc Your correct. 5C would be 32,5A

are there any videos to show charging a nicd battery? i have some old 6 cell 7.2v 1500mah batteries from back in the day and i tried going to nicd setting and charing at 1.5a.
I had to stop the charge cause i got worried when it started showing the voltage up at 9.01v after 8mins... (or is this normal?) also what is the count next to the time for?
Cheers

There are several such chargers out there with different case decors, but identical UI.
My own concern is mostly how to understand to not exceed charge currents.
I did not interpret setting for example 2.2 amps charging current as in your guide to have any real life correlation with the 2200 mAh (milli Amp Hours) capacity of the LiPo battery.
gunnarMyTube 1 year ago
@gunnarMyTube Most modern Li-po batteries are happy to be charged at 1C with no problems...that is a 2200 battery is usually fine to be charged at 2.2amps. In fact if you check the website of a lot of manufacturers you can even charge some at a higher rate however I would not do that all the time. You are correct however that the charge rate of the battery is NOT related to the capacity of the battery in all occasions. As I say for MOST modern batteries it's ok to charge at 1C.
craig3008 1 year ago
@craig3008
every battery (lipo) on the market is charged at 1c
thers a lot that charge at 2c.....turnigy nano techs =2c
if youve still got a lipo thats chargeable at 0.5c, then its time to toss it out and upgrade.
just my 2 pence worth

@RafaMoon Hi There, Yeah I use velcro with the sticky on one side. It doesn't hurt the battery at all. Just make sure you buy the stuff with the sticky on it. Don't go glueing the velcro..just use the velcro with the sticky on it. I've done that for an number of years with my Align helicopters and it works fine. IceBlack406 1 year ago
@IceBlack406 balancing and charging are the same thing. You can choose to just push current in until it reaches the full capacity, or, when balancing, it does the same thing, but also supplies extra current to individual cells to make sure each cell has the same voltage.

grenademagnet09 1 year ago

If you could clarify for me: 11.1 v 2200mah 20c lipo
For amps i plug in the capacity which would be 2.2 and voltage would be 11.1?
Also from other forums that i did research on most people seem to be telling me to only charge at 1.0-2.0 amps what does that mean?
much appreciated.

hi i am considering buying this charger but i dont know which power supply i need. what would be the minumum specs needed AND what type of connector?
tydb1 1 year ago
@tydb1 Hi there, you would need a power supply (12 - 14v) that has at least the current capacity of the battery charge rate you intend to use. If you are going to charge at 2000mah you would need a minimum 2amp charger - I'd actually use a power supply at least 500ma over the charge rate you intend to use. If you intend to charge at 1amp then at least look at using a 1.5amp power supply. Re connectors - these chargers come with everything from alligator clips to all manner of connectors.
craig3008 1 year ago
@craig3008 I recommend a 12 volt battery or you can take an old computer take the power supply out and solder the green and black wires of the big plastic plug then take the black and yellow wires out of a different plug your yellow is positive and black is negative so black to black and red to yellow youtube can also help you out on this money saving project.
MrBman54321 1 year ago
@MrBman54321 Yes absolutely. I use a computer power supply and it works really well! Thanks for adding that suggestion!
craig3008 1 year ago
@MrBman54321 and you solder an 10W, 8ohms Resistor between red and black wires. Then put this resistor near the fan (reachs hig temp, need cooling) . This make your power supply more voltage stable.

@helicub81 Hello. The charger comes with all necessary leads and connectors including a deans charging lead. do i always charge my battery with balance ?
luki01111 1 year ago
@luki01111 If it's a multi-cell battery (more than one cell) then yes it's a good idea. Otherwise your cells can get out of balance... and you wont get as much life out of your battery with each charge. It's important with Lipos to ensure that each cell is charged to the same point. So I would use balance each time. The 'charge' selection is there for single cell batteries as there is only one cell there is no cells to balance. Regards, Craig

hi i have on similar charger the hot power H6016
work like that
i have 2 question: 1- how i do the setup for 2s lipo, (limit charge time, capacity MAH, max voltage)
2 - if i charge my lipo using the CHARGING mode, when the lipo is full the charger make some beep and on display show FULL, but if i user the BALNCE mode, since the battery is full, its nos makeing the beep, stay charging using 0.0A and never stop as FULL charged, any idea?
fabiodacunha 1 year ago
Fair comment but its also miss leading to say in your video that the setting indicated is the capacity of the battery which implies that would you for example have a high mah Lipo like 5800 like I do, that it would be good to charge at such a high rate? It would be more apt to say this is the charge ampage as the instructions say. I appreciate you know your stuff but with the greatest respect many do not and there is a genuine area of danger here for those not in the know.
thegeneral123 1 year ago
@thegeneral123 Yes fair comment! I'm actually going to re-make this video anyway (and make more) as I now have a proper HD camera. I'll make sure I clarify what you state that there IS a difference between the discharge rate of a battery and the charge rate. Fair point and I didn't clarify that enough in the video. I'll add something to the comments now :-) Craig
craig3008 1 year ago
@craig3008 Thank you and otherwise a great video that was very informative. I have an Imax B6 on the way thats simply a different branded version of this charger. I use 7.4v and 11.1v Turnigy batteries for airsoft and use Deans connectors. I am especially pleased that this charger seems to be capable of charging NiMH batteries as well.
thegeneral123 1 year ago
Sorry but you are wrong. The instructions clearly state that setting 2.2a is not setting the capacity of the battery but rather the charge current. By setting this to 1C you are pushing the battery at its max charge current and this is a bit risky. For the sake of safety and battery life preservation I would set the charge rate to half the Mah rating of the battery. 1.1amps for a 2200 Mah battery.
thegeneral123 1 year ago
@thegeneral123 Hi there General. As for being 'wrong' well that's debatable. I have found plenty of sites on the net that claim it's fine to charge the battery at 1C. I contacted Zippy in the USA and they also assured me it's fine. I have also charged dualsky packs at 1C and again it's not been a problem. The batteries don't get hot or puff etc. It certainly wont hurt to charge them at a lower rate so you are not 'wrong' however many agree that I'm not either. Thanks for your comments.

WarhawkLegend69 1 year ago
@WarhawkLegend69 Hello, yeah as long as you program the charger correctly and barring nothing unforeseen happening you should be fine. I recommend getting yourself a lipo sack or similar pouch to charge the battery in. They are a fireproof bag and in case of something going wrong they will stop you from burning your house down! Check youtube for them. You can get them on ebay pretty cheaply. The chargers are foolproof as long as you set them properly & take care of the batteries.

lookersd 2 years ago
When you say you are debating whether to get one...what do you need it for exactly? They do not blow up if you treat them with respect. They need a special charger that monitors the condition of each cell in the battery and a lipo should never ever be allowed to over charge or over discharge. What use did you have for a lipo? Mostly they are used for remote control helicopters, planes, cars etc..
