  • Errrrm gord !

  • This is....awful. I just have no other word for it.

  • Everyone calls them crap, but the fact of the matter is that because of these idents EVERYBODY in London knew who Carlton were very, very quickly - more people recognised the name Cartlon than LWT. They weren't ment to be liked - they were meant to be seen! What Lambie-Nairn did with this campaign was brilliant and instantly set Carlton apart from everybody else who were trying to copy what Lambie-Nairn did 11 years ago with Channel 4.

  • Ugh, awful. Makes me want to play Sonic Next-gen.

  • Calton went backwards with their logos. When everybody were using 3D, they started using 2D logos.

  • I think the CARLTON idents were bad in 1993, terrible in 1994, but later on, they got good. The 1998 idents were good apart from making CENTRAL use them. They were better in 1999.

  • Fuck carlton, being back Thames!

  • WOW! just when i thought the BBC1 dancers were crap.....

  • Holy smoke, these idents are probably the worst in the history of TV, anywhere, ever!!

Clearly thought up by some soul-less ad agency, for a soul-less company trying desperatly to win affection, with an insultingly patronising attempt to be as cockney as winkles.

    Epic fail, epic!

  • Well, surprisingly, these idents were made by the great Lambie-Nairn, and I'm not making that up.

  • bethlehemfan88 - Really?! Must've been something Lambie made when Nairn wasn't looking. :-/

  • Probably working to spec though.

  • in my opinion, without arguing, these carlton idents had lack of imagination, compared to thames, but this improved in the hearts/star idents between 1999-2002

  • I think they were very imaginative. Considering the then ITV companies were required to reflec thte regions they served and the fact that Thames had used the river and city scape, the use of London's people on what was supposed to be a magazine cover was brilliant. Showing diversity etc etc.

    Howver, Carlton's programmes were shite.

  • except catchphrase!

  • Catchphrase was originally produced by TVS.

  • but they took over in 1993

  • The Carlton logos were crap compared to Thames'

  • much agreed.

  • @rfitzhen

Carlton was just crap - full stop.
