  • I read in a magazine the DJ Kool Herc used to put tapes on when he was dj-ing and used to pretend to scratch with old jazz records. I didn't believe it, cos i heard good things about the brother

  • @messthetics , I've seen the man dj, whatever magazine you read that in was talking straight up shit, good on you for not believing the hype.

  • kraftwerk and probably originally pink floyd did this in europe with larger budgets using electronic circuitry to loop drum beats (... but unfortunately their's weren't james brown) so geez, the concept of the "sound system" was a uniquely jamaican import, probably, but running the same record on two turntables such as to create a loop well that's just applied yankee ingenuity and all that anyone else sez is hosreshit. scratching was a bad hack to cover when you rewound the other record. hth.
