  • Inspirational humor that works. He´s a genious :)

  • 20:40 Morgan Freeman

  • Glad he decided to dress up for the occasion.

  • This is amazing! I love him. So real. Simple speech. Funny. Inspirational. For those of you who didn't get it, something is really wrong with you.

  • Woo! Go Bill!

  • The fetishization of poverty and ignorance is what is holding many members of the black community down.

  • Bill throws his robes to the floor and they KNOW to pick it up!

  • in his Cliff Huxtable leisure outfit :)

  • Cosby always worth listening to

  • so in closing, "I close"

  • I've loved this man's comedy since I was a boy. I haven't seen this video until today and I'm definitely feeling the inspiration! Thank you Dr. Cosby!

  • What a great man! It's going to be a VERY sad day when he passes.

  • @Erikz04 Hopefully that won't be soon !! I for one will cry my heart out the day he does pass !

  • What an inspirational speech. The man is a genius!!!!

  • Love you Bill! You rock! Inspirational from beginning to end! You are one of the people I look up to and learn from!

  • I used to be all Meh regarding Cosby's comedy.. not my favorite comic at all. He has however, changed a lot in his older years, hes become more honest and more direct. I love that about him.

  • He's got a baseball cap with a tassel! That's just awesome.

  • Great !!!!

  • I got much love and respect for Bill Cosby & how he has inspired black people By being a leader within himself and not selling out for the mighty dollar

  • So in closing...I close..lol

Nerds: Prepared people who don't give a damn about the dance

  • @fuck192ass Why where you looking at Bill's ass anyway ? xD

  • his energy makes him so much younger here

  • now, what is it that you nerds like to play?

    algebra! ALGEBRA? algebra! ALGEBRA!

  • That is one hell of a speech!

  • Why has the Afro American community black balled someone who speaks the truth.

Watch "The Boondocks," that is reality & the truth.... Sorry Today 2010 No jobs, need to go back home to save 20% for Down payment for house or pay off Student loans... "Its not what you know," But... "Who you know." ( I am learning to speak Chinese)

  • @fuck192ass: It just looks like a water seat stain to me, from sitting down on a wet bench or something. But even if it is a 'stain', give the guy some slack. He's 70 years old in this vid and still has more stage charisma than most 20 year olds.

  • Bill Cosby is a god, and I love this man. He is one of the few african american leaders who is actually talking about the reality of the situation, in the inner city. He is someone who truly cares, unlike Michael Eric Dyson.

  • Oh, and the 65 people who hit the "thumbs down" must have done it on accident, don't blame them, they're special..

  • Too bad the people we really need running our country never get into politics... Maybe it's cause they are not corrupt...

  • @TheConservatveLibral The type of person that is generally interested in politics is not the type of person interested in making the country better. They're like parasites, and the country is their host.

  • @Pastafarealist I find that hard to believe as I'm sure that yourself and myself have a great deal of interest in politics. And I'm more than sure that we both want to make it better, liberal or conservative...

  • @TheConservatveLibral I should have been more specific. I meant people that are interested in becoming career politicians.

  • this is the funniest real talk ever

  • Long live BIll Cosby =D

  • my favorite comedian!!!! his getting old but his still got it!!! sizzlajizzla said it good!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE BILL COSBY.....agree

  • nomilkforsanta-Many of the finest minds with Doctorates aren't pretentious enough to make sure the planet knows they are 'Dr.', as in,"I have a Doctorate. I am better and far more educated than you. You must call me Dr. Cosby".

Next, I do not recall if his Doctorate is an Honorary one. Those with Honorary Doctorates do not customarily call themselves 'Dr.'

Most importantly, everyone has known him as Bill Cosby. With a long career, changing his name would only cause confusion.

  • weres my jello puddin

  • he he hehe

  • I LOVE BILL COSBY!

    Peace and love...

  • why does nobody call him Dr. Cosby? he received, in 1976 a doctorate in education, from the University of Massachusetts...

  • @nomilkforsanta That's because his work as a comedian, actor, humanitarian, and author supersedes the title of "Dr". People like Cosby who have tremendous influence over the public have background-independant careers in some sense. For example, even within academia, we don't say "Dr.Hawking" instead of "Stephen Hawking" or "Dr.Kaku" instead of "Michio Kaku. People that are that "good" don't require any unnecessary titles. Their full name supersedes the significance of any titles.

  • Someone had to say it, thank you Bill

  • sad how old hes gotten

  • @lson200 Life goes on..we are all getting older. I love my senior years... if you had a great life.. you welcome it

  • @lson200 , why is it sad?. He's had & is still having a wonderful life. Everybody gets old. Just enjoy life till it's over!!. Don't be sad to see him look old. It's ok. :-)

  • @Igbogadi well said =)

  • Rock on Bill !

  • in harsh reality we all know he is going to pass soon..i personally will be so upset.. hes a comical genius a brilliant speaker. just an inspiration to everyone. i will miss him and when that dark day comes i would be so upset. lets just hope it doesnt come soon and our kids will know and recognize him and his voice. The great Bill Cosby

  • @ris3width3fallen ris, we dont know he is going to pass soon, no one knows that.

  • dammn why does he have to be so old :[

future come quickly we need clones of important like bill cosby :]

  • what a great speech! This guy knows how to speak without pumping the same kind of garbage that every other so-called "great speaker" does.

  • he has the best laugh :)

  • he really is a wonderful person.. :)

hehe..and he really is like cliff huxtable.. :)

  • Indeed, he is human.

Social Scientist Tyler Lord Hamilton, CIC, AASoc., BSCJ, BA., MA (forth-coming)

  • Thank you "Dr. Cruel" for "the truth" that no one ever wants to hear.

  • @sizzlajizzla and less like Jessie Jackson

  • Bill Cosby is the shit!

  • Bravo, Bill. I wish you had spoken at mine in '74 HBHS. Thank you, Sir.

  • I was clapping alone in my room.... very inspiring and just in time for me.....

  • He's so cool! :D

  • genious

  • Bill Cosby is a genius.

  • very inspiring and funny

  • Wow, that was such an amazing speech.

  • i wish i could make bill cosby young again a be in movies with him.

i look at bill cosby like the father i never knew.

i worship the ground you walk on Bill.

you will last forever in my heart and spirit

  • Bill Cosby is Eddie Murphy's idol. Eddie's imitations of him is a sincere form of flattery. Bill Cosby is one of the reasons that Eddie Murphy found an interest in comedy. Bill Cosby has been a great teacher to all the new and great rising Comedians. Comedians are always learning and reinventing themselves in the art....

  • Thats the thing with Bill Cosby, he never liked it when people accepted the 'lower label' applied to them. I dont care what Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphey said about him, this guy has class. My deepest condolences to what happened to his son, I hate that russian bastard that did that to him. I would gladly pull the switch to fry that bastard if I had the honor of doing so.

  • Brilliant...the Doc has spoken

  • He is currently on a comedic tour of North America. He is alive and touring. If you research it you will see quotes and articles dated this week mentioning it

  • Comment removed

  • He didn't mention race. What he said in his own way was to strive. Have faith in ones self. Get knocked down, stand up.

Fall off the horse, get back in the saddle!

Try and you shall succeed. And it isn't as easy as that. Meaning take pride in yourself. I've got the origional albums from the 60's...I bought them in the 60',s.

Raised on the Coz and Carlin. I fell asleep to the stack when I was young.

I knew all the bits.....pure genious!

  • He's still with us.

  • nice

  • cosby you are the best! it's such a shame that so many black americans disrespect you and react as if you don't love them

  • bill cosby is the greatest

  • I needed that. Great speech.

  • umm...he's still alive.

  • he so old i remember when he had hair XD

  • A modern-day civil rights champion in our midst. One of the most important voices in America on the subject of race.

  • uh...nerds...he he he he....

  • in the begning when he was talking about nerds was outstanding

  • he talks about children out of wedlock an he does it an keeps her a secret. thats what u taught me bill.

  • I love how the band is playing Gene Harris's "Cute" when he takes the stage at Mr. Kelly's.

  • Yeah, Doctor Bill Cosby couldn't possibly have a point about black kids not being sold on violent messages to sell records and incite gang violence or anything.

  • im not sure wher he goin with this...i measn i knowe he talkin bout nerds but i dont get wher he goin with the nerds hahah i love Bill Cosby he the best ever

  • shut the fuck up he do to godamn im so fuckin tired racist ass mothafuckas that shit is so MLK time its time to move the fuck on...all skin is beautiful

  • AIN'T MY FAULT MAN HATES HIS OWN KIND

  • Actually, if you hear the things he says, he cares enough to call his own people out and hand them some tough love.

I'd say he cares more than the people hocking violent "gang-worship" music on the kids. He makes a better point to. "Become something great and independant" is his message. "kill people and get thrown in jail" is the other. Who is right?

  • @PR13STG0RD0 It's not just "his people". Bill Cosby has a message for all of us, not addressed to saving Black youth but rather American youth. This is a problem that has long ago crossed racial and gender divides.

  • @DrCruel I agree. I'll take it a step further as well...

Racism is created out of fear. The most racist people I ever met are white people who don't talk to black people or have any black friends, and black people who don't talk to white people or have any white friends. Those are the real racists. Civilized people of all colors respect truth and try to bring about a better place like Bill Cosby. Don't let ignorant hate mongers destroy our world whatever color they are. Divided we fall!

  • @PR13STG0RD0 I remember the words of Talleyrand, that it is worse than an atrocity - it is a blunder. People who are racist, who call kids who work hard in school and business "race traitors" or "oreos", or similar nonsense, are not merely nasty - they condemn themselves, and everyone who respects them, to lives of disadvantage and poverty.

  • @PR13STG0RD0 Bill Cosby is right. Either get an education and work hard at your job, or envy the people who do. Whether you justify your envy through Marxism or some other excuse is irrelevant. And if you do get something from someone (like your parents), be grateful for it.

  • @DrCruel We are indeed a society that loves to play the victim. We are constantly looking for things to place the blame on for the problems in our society instead of taking responsibility for our actions. Our kids act like little assholes and get in trouble all the time and we want to blame the cartoons, the comic books, the toys, etc. We want to blame everything but the ones responsible for it, which is our own damn selves. I truly hope people will take Bill Cosby's words to heart.

  • @PR13STG0RD0 Bill Cosby is right.

  • @PR13STG0RD0 Actually his message is this "Bring the highest quality out of you, regardless" That is why when he called Eddie Murphy not to speak swearing words in his shows Eddie Murphy didn't understand because Eddie Murphy thinks being rebellious means being rude vulgar disrespect the mores. Jazz Music is a universal Music and it is the music of the black Americans. That's why Cosby in his shows refelcts it a lot. So is the blues. Rap, Hip Hop, except few, are mere hate reflections.

  • Bill Cosby is Fantastic , i great comden , Actor he is all about Family and i love that he teaches leasons in what he does witch is fantastic and by far smart.

  • what?

  • "For 400 years, that word has kept us down Just to get up that hill. Now we're up in the big leagues, Gettin' our turn at bat.

As long as we live, it's you and me baby" Hey just cuz it's the theme song doesn't make it not true!!

  • all this vulgarity is necessary why?

  • he has a brain and he is a smart guy.. you on the other hand are a moron and have little education.. keep being dumb. makes life easy for people like my self.

  • I agree & we need to change the Urban/World mentality of excuse after Excuse. Excuse for War, Wall St, Self Murder of fellow Humans.. etc etc

    Be responsible!

  • Just amazing the guy. I wish lots of people like cosby on this world. we need them badly!!!!!!!!!

  • the GREAT BILL COSBY!

  • ROFLMAO! Bill's great! :)

  • You see! The kids, they listen to the rap, Which gives the the brain damage. You see! With their hippin' and their hoppin' And the bippin' and the boppin' So they don't know what the jazz is all about! You see! The jazz is like...jello pudding. No! Actually, it's more like Kodak film, No! The jazz is kinda like the new Coke, It'll be around forever- heh heh heh... What do you like to play? Kid: Pokemon! Pokemon?!
  • AMAZING. One of my favorite people in the world.

  • He's my hero.

  • What a wonderful man. Someone who has used his celebrity to ACTUALLY educate and attempt to better all people everywhere. Bill Cosby should be a hero to all.

  • bill cosby is one of my inspirations and heros!

  • I don't know if that was the point of his speech....

  • bill cosby pokemon rap

  • That was really great! Very inspiring indeed. And not only to nerds.

  • i love you mr. cosby. you raised us, sir. thank you

  • is something wrong with his right eye?

  • It's probably a lazy eye, my left eye is my lazy eye.

  • Is it cataracts? That would explain why he wears sunglasses a lot.

  • Thanks for an inspiring speech!!!

  • Fantastic! There is a great man.

  • Inspiring! THanks for posting his work for us.

  • Awesome man.

  • the username means nothing at all, it doesnt say anything about me at all

  • Awesome. Ha ha!!

  • Very inspiring.

  • i like this man! never heard of him before. i am almoast asleap and i laughed :)

  • "Have enough confidence to be yourself" Good message delivered in Dr. Cosby's own unique style.

Like the speech, probably not his best ever, but still an 8 out of 10

Don't understand how race even came up as a topic on the comments.

  • NO! are you kidding ahah it would be everywhere if he passed away

  • no he is not dead he is only 71

  • lol 'with the chocolate chips and the ugh... italian biscuits that were hard.' hahaha

  • Wonderful commencement speech...made me proud to be a Nerd. I only wish my commencement addresses (for my undergraduate or my graduate degrees) were as inspiring and witty. This is a classic, right up there with the "Are You Dead?" address at Howard!

  • OUTSTANDING! - However, in glancing at some of these ridiculous posted comments, it's obvious that some did not get the all inspiring message being delivered by Dr. Cosby. I would highly recommend (you know who you are) that you STOP, LOOK, and really LISTEN very closely...THE MESSAGE IS TO BE PROUD AND SURE OF YOURSELF, BUT BE YOURSELF - AND IN ORDER TO BE SURE OF YOURSELF YOU NEED TO ALWAYS BE MENTALLY PREPARED! IN THAT WAY REDUCING MENTAL MASTURBATION - Do you finally get the message now?

  • Bill is a genius

  • To the media, get real and jump on the band wagon.

I meet people every day and they are all wired to the Internet.

  • If you put a T-Bone steak in a bowl of Coca - Cola Syrup, it will dissolve in 2 to 3 days.

  • POKEY-MAN?!

  • My brother's graduation was in 07. I was there. I think his speech was particularly uninspiring.

I would have much rather listened to Randy Pausch-like speakers.

  • "Get a job or a hand job a the end of the day, Theo!"

  • if he were so guilty wouldnt the first and the 12 other women to follow pursue him till he was found guilty in the court of law. But, rather to seek justice they found solace in an undisclosed amount of money, which mind you also has a gag order attached.

Do the math. This happens far more often than most realize

  • Bill stands to lose much by anything being falsely said by the opportunistic about regardless of it being true or not. Perception is ones reality regardless of the truth or its validity. Often people settle out of court to stop the rhetoric simply because, regardless if its true, is too damaging to ones popularity.
