  • This young lady has waisted a lot of money on her education if this is the most important piece of research in her life. Hopefully she is paying her own way through school, and not waisting taxpayer money worrying about some lice infected bat.

  • @aolisreallyslow

Some facts: Bats live on mosquitos (at least in the environment where she did research).

Few people like mosquito bites, bats pollinate plants and increase air quality and plants feed us both directly and indirectly.

Wind turbines are a clean source of energy: Kill less bats -build more turbines and live a longer more better lives. Please resist making some harebrained comment, swallow some humble pie. It's the lives of you and your loved ones research like this benefits.

  • Nuclear energy isn't even bad, as long as the little bit of nuclear waste is disposed of properly it isn't a problem, and with all of the regulations, it makes it hard to be careless.

  • @tdog158 lol @ 'little bit of nuclear waste'. look up nuclear waste in wikipedia

  • @tdog158 Fukoshima?????

    ever heard of it??

  • @cjfilmproductions Considering my comment was posted before that event, you can't even use fukoshima as a valid argument.

  • @tdog158 Ok lets pretend hundreds of Thousands maybe millons of people Are not currently being Killed by radiation......Nuclear is still a bad Option. because accidents Cant be prevented no matter how prepared you are and the risk isn't worth it.....We put man on the moon and we can't figure out what dumb plants did millions of years ago? ITs the SUN stupid.....

  • @cjfilmproductions What the hell? I can't even decipher what you are trying to say in addition to nuclear energy apparently causing a mass killing. The risk IS worth it, if there is no risk. We just have idiots doing things wrong and not taking the precautions necessary to keeping the population in the vicinity and out of the vicinity of nuclear plants. The people working in Fukoshima probably shouldn't have built a nuclear plant on an island with earthquakes and tsunamis.

  • The winds turbines also create a frequency and the pressure blows up the hearts of our birds. I cant understand people were given nuclear power, humans should use it. It makes me sad about the birds and bats, stupid humans

  • nah wind energy is too inefficient at this time.

    get back to nuclear energy.

    dont listen to those greenpissers.

    they know nothing but shit.

  • Bring back the technology of Nikolai Tesla.. he found a way to generate energy and conduct it using the earths magnetosphere..

  • mire

  • ok so keep burning coal and save the bats...super super nerd that girl

  • Early stage of White Nose Syndrome.

    Were All Gonnah DIE !

  • lol i work on the exact turbines in the video, i see the "bat people" all the time

  • I know Eren

  • We just can't win can we?

  • a 1 second or so low pressure then back to normal kills bats? that's odd, must hav some fragile blood vessels... i wonder how low does the preassure drops behind the blades at average wind speeds...

  • i wonder if the bats would rather die by ones and twos by wind turbine, or have there habitat completey destroyed by mining for coal, or slowly suffocate on pollutants. are they going to count bats on the side of the road next? or ban ringing church bells? these folks have bats in their belfries. Honestly, we bitch about going green, we bitch about being green, stop bitching and come up with a solution, or shut the hell up.

  • Jerkerface,

No one is saying that wind energy is bad. They are merely addressing an issue that needs to be resolved. In fact, many turbines are now being fitted with high frequency speakers that disrupt bat echolocation and cause them to steer clear of the turbines. This has resulted in a 60% reduction in the number of bat deaths.

The issue is not about being "Green" (a catch-phrase with no real standards), it's about being responsible and identifying all impacts of a technology.

  • Were the results proportional to the distance from the windmills

So what did you do for a control .Did you search an equal area in a wheat field perhaps?

  • Go SOLAR!!!

  • and what do you do at night??

  • Use the stored energy from the day, obviously.

  • Well, exactly how would you store all this energy? If we could store energy efficiently, a lot of todays problems could be solved.

By the way, to produce all the energy we need by solar power plants, we would have to use immense areas. When you calculate it all through, solar isn´t actually all that "green" we hoped it to be.

  • Actually we only need to cover 1% of the NON-USED area of Earth to achieve 15TW of power which is what we use annually (see wikipedia and sources). We can store power in huge capacitors like those used in FERMI lab. Just as we needed to invent "green" things, we will need to invent new storage abilities.

  • You idiot!

  • the problem with solar is it doesnt work everywere. I live in Wisconsin and we dont always have much sunlight in the winter time. Also, solar is VERY expensive on large scale using highly efficient solar cells. So it never does pay for it self. Plus the battery power needed to store terawatts of energy would cost trillions. Bankrupting the world and probably causing a war. :P we need to use ALL types of renewable energy. Wind, solar, hydro, biogas, woodgas, switchgrass pellets for heat etc.

  • meh just another thing on the foodchain lol

  • what about those wind turbines that rotate around the tower horizontally? quietrevolution makes them. I guess the next thing will be wave power. who will then be killed? shrimps?

  • like what? what ways can they help make it greener? your videos often do this... they leave out the most interesting part. If the scientists didn't have ideas, then say that at least. Don't just leave us hanging!

  • whoa

  • whoop, gotta get rid of wind mills now. They are killing animals. Start taking them down. What's good for the Caribou is good for the bat. Oh but it's ok cause this is 'green' energy.

  • An ultra pitched siren above the range of humans would ward off any bats.

  • It's simple, kill the batman

  • ROFL!

  • aww poor bats, hope they solve the problem soon!

  • there is always a trade off. nothings really free..well not even wind energy, them birds and bats suffer from this.

  • What are the chances of natural selection working here? Those bats that survive will produce offspring that are more likely to survive?

  • How can they fix this nyways

  • say it ain't soooo

  • wow, that is a really unexpected problem, i wonder if that's happened to any birds as well.

  • Bats are not birds ffs.

  • That's why I said "any birds as well", as opposed to saying "any *other* birds as well". I chose those words in order to make sure that I didn't accidentally make people think that I didn't know that bats aren't birds. Apparently it didn't work, so I'll try to be a little more clear next time, but thanks for your input anyway. BTW, what's "FFS" stand for? "For fuck's sake"? Just wondering.

  • That's awesome!

  • awesome that bats are dying?

or i hope you mean awesome that they'll hopefully figure out a way to stop it from happening?

  • i dont even think he made that comment after watching the vid. i think he was trying to get the 1st comment

  • Maybe he just means it's fascinating, I certainly thought it was.

  • wow...

  • Wow. That was crazy.

  • wow thats really wierd
