  • Excellent exercise thank you!

  • Look at my channel for easy ways to play barre chords! Not finger placements on the stings, but how to physically press down all of them!

  • ahhh...dis is still impossible! :(...buh anyway thanxx..:)

  • thank you thank you THANK YOU!!:) I've been playing for about 3 months now, and I want to get into rock and classical, which both involve bar chords, so this helps ALOT! Thank youuuuu:) oh, and I play acoustic, and getting levrage , I find, is harder on an acoustic than an electric, so any other tips...?

  • Thank you so much mate, I'm going to go practice this tomorrow, someone FINALLY explains how to play these. Again, thanks.

  • You have a manly voice.

  • Thank you so much! Finally someone who explains how to actually grip and hold barre chords! Most teachers just tell you to practice chords like F maj or B, with a barre over all six strings, and to keep trying though it sounds crappy. It's supposed to work itself out, but I just didn't know how to do that with my short, chubby fingers. This video helped me a lot, that twisting thing works fine! And you explained it very well. Thanks again! I think I'm gonna buy your DVD, you're a good teacher.

  • @Director84 You're welcome. There is something to be said for experience - I've been teaching barre chords for thirty years. I also had a similar experience to the one you describe when I first learned barre chords - It took me about five years to learn how to play them because nobody was able to properly explain the technique.

  • good videos for beginners , i am 15 years guitar playing i rememebr learning these bar chords took a while.

  • I will order the complete beginner course one of these days. And spend most of my summer with it, to prepere me for high school where i have taken music on A levels.

I have played 2 years, but what do you think i should do? Order the complete basic course or start from another stage? :)

  • @wassup131994 - This is one of the most common questions that I'm asked. Since you've been playing for awhile you already know much of what is taught in the first couple of programs. I still recommend purchasing the entire course. That way, you won't miss anything. You save about $20 by ordering the entire course at one time plus postage. Many people decide to order just the last couple of DVDs then they decide to go back and start at the beginning. Then it's too late to get the discount.

  • im trying to hold the guitar right but my fingers arent long enough and i cant really position them right.what should i do?? O:

  • @Caeadi Most people that think their fingers are too short are not using the correct technique that's explained in the course. Be sure that your fretting hand elbow (normally the left elbow) is held very close to your body. That makes reaching much easier.

  • You are really motivating me to buy a guitar and pick up your DVD

I really want to learn how to play.

Any tips on what amps/brands/guitars to get?

  • @lil0egy0kid - I discuss this on the first DVD. There are lots of great guitars out there. Probably the best way to find one that's right for you is to ask for a recommendation from a local guitarist.

  • man ur so good at teaching ive been looking at all ur videos on youtube...hopefully ill get ur dvd for christmas thats all im asking for

  • @heavyduty94 - guess I'm a little late here. I hope you got the DVDs for Christmas. Stop by our forum and say hi.

  • Yes, you can learn from scratch. The course starts right at the beginning - how to tune a guitar and moves on from there.

Although the name of the course is Metal Method it's really a classic rock / blues rock course. We've been around since '82. What was considered metal when we named the company is now considered classic rock. Have fun with the course. You'll enjoy it. If not, send it back for a refund. No questions asked.

  • hey doug i had one guitar teacher, got another one, but then he got a job, so i was self taught for a long time almost a year. Then i got another teacher who teaches me a lot. So do you think that with todd garrsion that i could master guitar? cause i think so. cause i already know the stuff you teach in all of the stages.

  • I don't know who todd garrsion is but if he's a good teacher hang in there. Good teachers are hard to find. How do you know that you already know everything in The Complete Basic Course? Unless you've actually studied it, there's no way that you could know.

  • i didn't study but i already know how to do vibrato bend vibrato, tapping, bends, lead, and barre.

  • Doug, i see there's a metal method for guitars, is there going to be any Metal Bass dvd's anytime soon, from Metal Method?

  • Yes, we have a bass course planned featuring Rev Jones

  • Much Appreciated, looking forward to it, thanks.

  • Great lesson, really detailed and easy to understand, nice one

  • everytime i try and sign up at the site, it says im typing in the wrong security code even though its clearly right.

  • I'll give you my email address. I'll sign you up

  • I bought tapes from this dude back in the late 80's.His teaching kicked ass back then!!From what i can see from his website,he's right on the money as far as teaching with no bullshit!!

  • Do you teach a bout rhythm, timing, time signatures, and practicing songs on a metronome?

Should I master the techniques in a previous lesson before going to the next lesson?

I think your teachings are excellent. I'm going to buy your DVD set. Thanks

  • Check out the other DVDs in the vault. I'm pretty sure that you'll find everything you're looking for in the course. If not, send it back for a full refund.

  • Doug i love mab and gilbert your dvd gets the basics of improvising and everything else. I'm trying not to waste money on useless dvd's and internet sites hit me back.

  • Doug ure so bad ass i had to buy ure 6 dvd set, i have learned so much and im not even through it all the way u move pretty fast through the lessons

  • Thanks. I'm glad that the lessons are helping you. Keep practicing!

  • he said nut

  • Yes I did

  • Thanks for all this great info Doug...I have been contemplating weather or not to buy your videos for a little while now...Well I am sold, I will be ordering all of them soon! PS how do you like your Carvin? I am considering buying one myself. Well thank you again Doug!

  • Weather=Whether...sorry

  • Thanks. I love the Carvin. It's been my main axe for many years.

  • Thank you for the Carvin info Doug, But I'll still be buying your DVDs first!

  • It's the best course for beginners, learn by yourself, available out there. And no, I am not paid by Doug, I live on a different continent.

  • I really like how you explain the bar chords.

If only my teacher(s) had explained that to me.

    :(

  • Thanks. I wish someone had explained that to me too. It took me about five years to learn how to play barre chords.

  • garth is so good on guitar, i hope u dont take offense in that

  • It's not the first time I've been called Garth. I've been called worse. Enjoy the vids.

  • do you like looking like garth, i would he hooked up with that hot babe,"do you have any megadeth"

  • Ah, from Wayne's World 2, when she's playing the soft music to seduce him.

    That was a great movie!

No, Garth and Doug may be similar in their hairstyle, but the difference is, well, everything else.

    :)

  • and the black eyebrows, yea but thats why some people might nickname doug as garth

  • Garth?

Like the dude from Wayne's World?

  • yep

  • Thanks. Part 2 is in the vault.

  • great helped me alot

  • Awesome as usual!

    Great work, 5 stars

    =) =) =)
