Yes, you've basically answered your question - these pickups are old EMG 81's - active ceramic. They have great sound. But it's down to all the other factors that also play the significant role in 'that' sound. Graphite composite Steinberger guitar, old solid state Gallien Krueger 250RL amp etc.
