In this case I don't blame the Germans. I have no respect or pity for anybody that desrecate a Ocean Liner like that. Don't know a word of German, but I can say is Arigoto. Bremen, as with all Liners is with me in spirit. I am a tool for either love or hate.
The Cabin Boy got a slap to the face fron an officer. Than the boy set a matress on fire. The poor boy was sentenced to death for that, because of the war and the german navy wanted the Bremen for carrying troops. Greetings from Bremen.
I purchased a lifeboat binnacle (30 years ago) from an antique dealer who purchased it from a Capt, Young associated with the SS Bremen. The dealer also thought the date of 1912 was significance. Ideas?
Great video! Dare I ask how they got the shots of the entire ship on the move? Did they go for a swim? I wonder if both sister ships might have been sailing together -- maybe filmed Europa from the deck of Bremen?
But indeed it is not the Bremen which is shown - it is her sistersphip Europa without any doubt.
You can see it at the pedestal for the derrick at the foreship, the number of windows in the wintergarden: Europa had 4 in a row, Bremen had 2, and finally by the shape of the funnels: Bremen had pear shaped ones, Europa oval ones.
Both ships were stunning and amongst the most beautiful ever built. I think the Bremen was even slighly sleeker than her sister.
My grandmother(and probably those of a lot of You-Tubers) returned to America as an adult on the Bremen, probably in that year! She was returning from her parents' Hungary and so Germany provided the nearest port for Eastern Europeans wishing to head west.
Too bad this clip(2:30 - 3:00) shows her after her smokestacks were heightened. That's right, her stacks were originally half the height as shown here. IMO one of the sleekest liners ever built, contemporary looking even today!
Wow, that was my Gramma reading that book 3 minutes into the video. She said "Get that camera outta my face before I stick it in your ass". Really. Read her lips! She rode the Europa as well. Blamed the dog "Skipper" for barfing on the cabin floor. She always had a weak stomach. Miss ya, Gramma D.
Sorry it couldn't have the Eupora either, she was scrapped in '62, the closest one to the Bremen and the Eupora is the RMS Queen Elizabeth or the RMS Queen Mary
The music is...Mr. and Mrs is the Name by Jack Payne and his Orch. circa 1935....

@Rocky54167
no - the Bremen didn´t have any similarity with the titanic.
Some scenes of the movie were shot on the famous 3-funnel-liner Cap Arcona of the Hamburg Süd Line, which looked a bit more old fashioned.

2.20 Correct. It is Europa after enhancement of the funnels.

Sorry she had to burn, by her own people, in her own country, but, it was war, Bremen was beautiful.

Nice long shot of the Europa in the middle, and is that the Ile de France at the end?
timetoreorder 5 years ago
It's the Europa. Later the Liberte. I think I caught a little footage of the top deck of the Ile de France at the end also, if I'm not mistaken.

I sailed on the Bremen from New York City to Hamburg i 1968. Very nice trip. Brass band also. I learned to swim in the salt water swimming pool.
eirhtugolra 5 years ago
That can't have been the Bremen, because the Bremen was destoryed by fire in 1941. It was most likely her sister ship Eupora.
titanic1090345 4 years ago
The Bremen itself I think?
