I like this version with only one exception...the drum solo. This song did NOT need a drum solo. Poor Jody looks like she doesn't quite know what to do during that part.
Contrast her performance here with her performance at the Sanremo Music Festival, where she sang the Italian version of You Don't Have to Say You Love Me. That little lady could sing anything. What a voice.
This is from 1965, in the middle of Jody's "Capitol pop" era. This number is from side 2 of her "Queen of the House" LP, with the hyped up tempo and gutsy guitar work courtesy of producer Billy Strange. It (and this video) is exhibit "A" of how Capitol was trying to take Jody's country roots and re-position them (and her) into rock n' roll. Unfortunately, the fit wasn't quite there - if only Capitol had worked this element longer, a "folk rock" route might have eventually emerged. Sigh....
Can you tell her she's fantastic! Google got me here (it's a long story). Suffice to say her voice is great, love the dancing and the words are inspirational!
@latefor . You are correct. In today's world of country music where looks is what counts (Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, etal) she would have been an incredible superstar. Not only is she gorgeous, she can sing.
Jody Miller had a wonderful voice. I can't understand why she never had enduring commercial success. I think she was lost in the shuffle with the more successful ladies of country in the '70s .. Dolly Parton, Lynn Anderson, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn. Too bad ... Jody sings as well, if not better, than any of them.
Only thing I didn't like about her take of He's So Fine is that they use the guitar hook from My Sweet Lord. This was when it was discovered that the two songs sounded alike and it seemed to me that the hook was used to drive the point home. Otherwise it was indeed a nice song.
WOW !! What a voice. The power behind that voice just builds and builds as the song progresses.

Is there anything she can't interpret? I didn't think I'd like this, but I do! Why wasn't she more popular?

After this, and Jody Miller's "Home Of The Brave" video, I've become quite the fan of her singing - 40 years later.

I was a fan of hers since I heard her singing "He's So Fine" on the radio in the early seventies.
That other video of her on youtube singing "Queen Of The House" was interesting - but a little over done.
