like this video a lo Jared. just getting back into photography and discovered your stuff. have ordered a Nikon J1 so may send in some stuff once I have got used to it. great channel with honest opinions which is so refreshing. also liked the small frame thingy (?) you used to compose the pictures during the critique is there any place i can get me one of those?
@chaseaustinmiller614 First off you need a tripod. Then you have to take 3(or more) shots of the scene with 3 different exposures. One overexposed, one correctly exposed and one underexposed. Then you blend all those differently exposed images together to create an HDR image. There are lots of different programs that will do that for you but I recommend that you do it manually if you want your image to not look like shit.
My only issue with the first image of the hockey mask is that the bit at the bottom makes the kid's chin unflattering. The only thing I think the photographer could have done was leave the image in color so that the viewer could distinguish between the two. I understand why the image was processed this way, and it is a well-processed image, but that little bit throws the image off for me.
do you have a video to help people take pictures of high school students "senior pictures"? im getting asked by students if i could take their senior pictures because i have a canon t2i but i am not that great with using all the functions of the camera, i usually just try to blow out the background and snap the picture but i only have a 18-55mm can u help?
I totally agree, spot color is extremely amateur-ish. I've noticed a ton of beginner photographers in the past doing the whole spot color thing when they get their first editing software. And there's now way on this earth that spot color wins over RAW editing. Because one's a gimmick and the others not.
Spot colour editing is not much more a photographic lie then post-processing, but at least It does not pretend to be a representation of reality. Spot wins over raw editing every time.
I don't this "RUSTED" is HDR I think he clipped out the image of the foreground and added a different sky shot behind it... The little while lines around the image are a give aways also there are areas where he didnt clip out the image...
Good critique Jared. Your analysis of people's photos helps us all I think. I've been in some similar situations to images that you have critiqued in the past and it helps to know how to work in those situations because of what I've heard from you. Keep up the goodness. Peace.
When the picture goes into photoshop you loose lens model information.

If you put a rug in the room it will really absorb some of that echo without putting a bunch of big object to absorb it

I dig spot color :)
EverythingisFire 3 months ago
@JaredPolin what if he would go selective color on the kids eyes (the one with ribbon) would that be better?
krqkan 3 months ago
@krqkan it does come down to personal preference. Where I may not personally like it the client may really dig it and thats all that matters.
