I personally cant answer your good question I am going to try and find an answer to it, all I can say is when this piece of music is used is a wordhip service I get so choked up I can hardly sing and it brings tears to my eyes so very moving.

But i have to ask...i've been watching these vids of people performing Finlandia, and theres alot of people talking about god and giving thanks to this and that in their comments. Why? This piece of music originally has nothing to do with god. It's about my countrys independence. I mean...no offence to anyone...just wondering.

I think the reason you are seeing this response is the core music was used to the Christian Hymn- Be Still My Soul - after the man who penned it lost hisWife and children within a year's span. He put Lyrics to your wonderful country's anthem. In my case, I was looking for versions of Be Still My Soul, and stumbled upon this. The fact that I fell in love with a Finnish man (who has since married another) only makes the combination of meaning - better.

Lyricists have often put their words to old, familiar tunes in order to make the new songs easier for common people to remember or to make the new songs fun to sing.

The former is the case with "Be Still, My Soul", I do believe.

Finlandia is a widely popular tune. It has a great sound to it. I'm sure you are very proud of it!
