It costs about £150 a year, expensive for students, so instead we watch programmes after they're broadcast through online catch up services, which you are allowed to do without a TV Licence. But the TV Licensing people can not comprehend the idea that someone can cope without a TV and will assume anyone without a licence is breaking the law. So you get a lot of these letters XD

Licence also funds all other BBC serices such as the iPlayer, BBC Radio stations and BBC websites (except foreign sites which are funded by advertising iirc.) It's also the fourth smallest T.V. Licence fee in Europe, beaten only bu the R.O.I., France, Italy and the Czech Republic. I am happy to pay for quality services that aren't broken up with annoying aderts for pointless tat :)
