All forces have an allocation of plates from DVLA. These are usually used for the normal beat cars / response vehicles and normally all have the same prefix. Most forces will also have a certain allocation of 'Out of town' plates for use with plain cars.
Dont worry about this video giving it away , i see this thing coming a mile off , because of the cross hatched lights , can allways tell its the umarcked mondeo , there 3 going round that i have counted
Loving the complete switch to covert lights on this car. Lancs Police's Vectras have distinctive fend off lights on the bumper and the wing mirrors in some cases and make them stand out like a sore thumb.
Just curious to what the problem is with showing off the number plates? Is it as the cars are unmarked they should be hidden to remain further inconspicuous? Pretty much every police car in the Thames Valley area start with " OU " and this is also seen on allot of the vectra unmarked cars they use. Although I have seen about 3 - 4 undercover cars with a different plate.
@s1rallye Hi, thanks! Yeah that's right, hiding the registration is to help keep it covert for as long as possible.
Police vehicles in each force usually start with the same, in Merseyside most start with PN or PO and are batch registered, so some have only one letter difference. Although some forces who have a bit of sense register their unmarked vehicles from all over the place, so they are less easy to spot. Some although don't unfortunately and the baddies can spot them from a mile away.
@bosco1013 I know lots in South Wales are CN or CU but they have recently changed it now so they're different and they've taken lights away so they don't stand out.
@s1rallye The police also use a lot of other vehicles for covert operations. Taxis for example, also hire cars, so registrations change all the time. It's not unknown to borrow royal mail vans and uniforms or pose as other utilities services. God knows why people moan about regitrations being shown, they are on the car and it's quite obvious by the look of the car, where it is, how it is driven/parked and what extras it has. Unmarked cars stand out a mile, criminals don't care!
@modelgamejamie Thanks, haha. They aren't false plates lol, suprisingly several of their unmarked Mondeos there all had very similar registrations. Bad mistake by CheshPol as it makes them a lot easier to remember by the crims.
STOP!! POLICE~!

What's with the landrover on the ramp to the left?
mcgherkinstudios 9 months ago
@mcgherkinstudios
That Land Rover is just used by the workshop staff to get from A to B. It was only on the ramps so it was out of the way of the public visiting.

They really shouldn't put the number plates on display to be honest.

@QuickTechno
I see what you mean, although it depends on its role. I heard someone mention that it was Driver Training. If that was true then it doesn't matter.

great! i think a rear deck of leds would be more effective though

@modelearth
Thanks. Yeah they could be, although they make it a hell of a lot more obvious that it's a Police vehicle.
