Oh, my........... The orchestra totally failed her. I'm sure it would have been absolutely fantastic had she not been accompanied by this orchestra. Of course, my favorite version of this is Hilary Hahn's.
@gurtrudelim That's not mean. That's a compliment. One could only hope to be compared to a legend. Although, I do not think she sounds like Kyung. Kyung had a very crisp, clear and aggressive sound. This girl's sound is close to that but still to smooth.
Well it maybe easier for the soloist to adapt to the ensemble. However, it really doesn't work that way during performances. Knowing that the orchestral tutti are easier than the soloist, it is much more logical for the orchestra to adjust.
Fuck the orchestra! They should adapt to the soloist not the other way around. Poor girl she was not able to exhibit her full talent. For me the best version of this concerto still belongs to Hilary Hahn.
yea but its much easier for one person to adapt to the orchestra instead of having everyone try and catch up to her. Thats crazy. She should have tried to fit them instead.... for the sake of the music.

i don't know... probably she studied that concerto just to make something different from the other in that competition.. do you think she's.. good? (not talking of technique)
it's hard to say, because I'm not an expert of this piece. I think she was doing very well in the first movement, but got lost towards the end. I also think that the performance is also badly influenced by the below-standard orchestra that screwed up in many repertoires in this competition!
i'am really sad about who is behind of my favor violinst.. i like her play alot but those who sitting behind with no interest.. god i want to smash them off~
That was one of many places in the orchestra literature where soloist conductor and ensemble MUST use their CHAMBER MUSIC SKILLS!! It's tricky, Stravinsky style!Communication is the key! fiddle conductor bass drum timp and tuba are all resposible for locking in on the tempo immediately! Who gets fired for that one? :)
yeah it totally got hairy pretty quick. It's not a piece that lends itself to loss of concentration. The conductor did a nice job of flailing his way through it, without much benefit to the ensemble, but she certainly did hold it together! Brilliant playing!
Woff, the soloist doesn't kept! The soloist first have lost a thread, and after she "led" so the very professional concertmaster could understand and catch (a conductor also has greatly organised).
Holy crap, is it just me or is this conductor so bad that by the end of the piece, most members of the orchestra have put down their instruments, obviously realizing the futility of trying to follow him? The soloist was quite good, but my god, the orchestra is SO LOST. ALL THE TIME. Wow. Just wow.
Not all the time (since 1:23 only) and it was BECAUSE the soloist' nervious state. She precipitated, so they had lost. Bravo the concertmaster: he saved the 1st violins entrance. Holy truth because I'm a violinist and i PLAYED THIS.
Actually Ponkin (conductor here) is widely acknowledged as the best technician in the business. I have never seen him make a mistake in the past 6 years of watching him closely...
Stunning.....o.O

I heard her Stravinsky today! And I only found this concert is hardly to play for Japanese orchestra, too...
But I know that this is a masterpiece thanks to Hilary Hahn' recording.
She must play with good orchestra like Academy Of St. Martin In The Fields.. Ha-ha:)

It maybe mean to compare her with other violinst, but I think her tone is similar to kyung wha chung's. Very refreshing and passionate sound.

Right. She's copying and doesn't understand the piece. Everything she plays sounds the same. Mutter's recording is actually good.

I have also played this piece and it is a routine coda.
