Just got mine. KX5 is one-of-a-kind, the sexiest of them all. It feels SOLID, and I would get it for its look alone. I'm a long time Roland fan, but with KX5 Yamaha beat them all: AX-1, AX-7, even the newest AX-Synth! Don't give an f. about number of keys or buttons on panel (mine mostly plays Reason off the MacBook), it the LOOK! Wish Yamaha started to make it again, with a few extras: built-in Wireless MIDI with USB out on receiver end my numer one wish!
The yamaha KX5 is a midi controller. It has no internal sounds. So as long as you have a keyboard with midi, it will control the sounds in the keyboard.
coz she always presses buttons on her keyboard on the stand. and I'm like "why do that? you have a keytar." but now I get it :D I want a yamaha shs-10
how do you midi your keytar. do you just plug the cable into your keytar and the plug the other end into the back of the keyboard. or do you need a certain module or box for that.
just wondering..where do i even begin my hunt for the older keytar models if i cant them from stores? i believe dealers wont carry these stuff if they've been phased out, no?

As far as where to get older keytars... ebay is the answer. Mine's for sale right now, and is a KX-5 like Dan's, but black instead of silver

The Keytar just controls whatever it is plugged into, e.g. a synth with midi. It has no internal sounds. Thanks for asking!

Very good sounding keytar. But don't they have their own sound banks?
