  • I LOVE that trumpet solo <3

  • Screven County Symphonic Band played The Divine Comedy Perfectly back in 98-99

  • hell has never sounded so good

  • I was so sad when I got oboe 2 for this- the solo is so badass

  • Ugh that trumpet solo with double time notes will be really hard for me to play....I mean you can only tongue so fast...haha

  • @LlNDEN Trust me dude I know your pain, I have to play it too.

  • @LlNDEN Ever heard of double tonguing??? all you do is use the tip of your tongue near your teeth and the top of your tongue and the roof of your mouth to make a second tap... Try doing that, It is what I did in my H.S. band when I played this piece

  • I play the Contrbass Clarinet for this song :)

  • @mrfish3131 i want one!!!

  • i was the timpanist :D wind kids...your welcome :P

  • I was lucky enough to play this piece with Robert W. Smith, the composer, as conductor at the 2006 Wyoming All-State music festival. The band that year was amazing.

  • Luckily for me, we don't have an oboe player, just a more-than-epic Tenor Sax.

  • oh man oh man oh man oh man im a first chair clarinet and we have looked at the ascension but i seriously want to ripp these runs with my own clarinet casue this sounds amazing

  • The trumpet player completely shit all over that solo.

  • My band director says that you know your in hell because the first sound you hear is an oboe. Not hatin' on oboes, just expressing how difficult that and practically any other double reed instrument is.... and FLUTES ALL THE WAY!!

  • @tothryan405 if they really wanted to show your in hell they should start it with piccolos haha

  • @samsellll ey dont go hatin ;)

  • We played this in band as a part of our accidentally Hell themed winter concert...FRIGGIN AWESOME!

  • Comment removed

  • So my high school (Mountain View High School from Mesa AZ) just pay the whole symphony! :D It was amazing!! :D (trumpet player)

  • What is that sound in the background around the 4:19 mark?

  • @15justinbiebersgirl the sound is chains. our band just picked up and dropped the chains.

  • I saw this performed last night by my high-school band, I absolutely loved the soprano sax solo and the chains. When the final movement came, they had the brass section play around the whole auditorium, it was amazing.

  • My high school marching band is doing an Elements show and this song is our "Fire" movement. It's gonna be amazing!

  • the color guard routine is awesome for tis peice. so amazing!!!

  • @kittehvlr I was in color guard! and yes color guard routine was amazing! I was a part of a couple of stunts for it. We worked with lots of equipment. So much fun! Best show ever! :)

  • In my experience, there are 2 types of oboe players. There are the ones the band director wants to kill on a daily basis, and there are the one who can play this kind of stuff. NO MIDDLE GROUND!

  • @BalthierTheNobody you're absolutely right

  • @BalthierTheNobody You forgot the NO EXCEPTIONS part at the end :3

Like this: Newfags can't Triforce. NO EXCEPTIONS

  • I get to play the oboe part! Woooo!

  • Our marching band show this year is based off of these four pieces. We decided to call it "Dante's Rising" :)

  • @farmingisawesome : lol, our's is called "Dante's Journey" this year. We're not playing these pieces, but this sounds epic!

  • My band is doing this and I`m in the flag ( or colorguard) and it is just an amazing piece to work with LOVE it.

  • i played this my junior year in high school i was a clarinet and it was epic we did the ascension and purgatorio as well it was awesome! i was also the only woodwind who could do the double tounging as well if not better than the brass!

  • @hghssenior2010 Thank you for posting this addition to that first comment you made. While at first one might be satisfied knowing that you played it in highschool, I think I can safely say you'd left the youtube world in suspense, not knowing whether or not you were exceptional at double-tonguening. We can now sleep soundly knowing exactly which people you are better than. On behalf of the online community, I thank you.

  • i played this my junior year in high school i was a clarinet and it was epic we did the ascension and purgatorio as well it was awesome!

  • This is planned to by my highschool's next year marching band music <3 arranged, of course. It'd be way too long as it is lol

  • Is his work on a CD? If so where can I buy it? This is amazing. Our band was going to play it, but the time wasn't on our side. I can't see how someone can't love this peice.

  • When Rober W. Smith was our conductor for All State he actually recorded us for his track and main recording for the whole Divine Comedy. So if this is the original track this is our All State Band :)

  • hey guys, where can i download this piece of music as it is not locatble on iTunes :(

  • Totally bad ass. :D I think the band should get a whip. Just so it could be as intense as this.

  • The Book has a soundtrack as you read it?

  • i don't think i've seen to many pieces that had impending doom as a tempo marking.

  • I find myself experiencing ecstasy whenever i listen to this piece, especially when i hear those tympani and the oboe solo

  • i swear every time i listen to it i nut in my pants and cry at the same time. if i could every get a chance to play it i think i would pass out from just the sheer possibilities of the musicality. i get angry and sad at the same time. i am in love with a song.

  • My high school band is playing this, I'm on timpani, and I love the parts I get to play. Hello Impending Doom, my lovely solo~

  • my high school is playing all four pieces :'D! epic concert ever

  • My highschool band is playing this. I am the only French Horn player. You know what that means, 32 measure solo. This piece is about hell, but I feel like I'm in heaven.

  • @graapickens Same here man :)

  • @graapickens And I thought I was complaining about being one of 3...

  • @graapickens So do I! "Inferno" truly is a cool piece. Somehow no one in my orchestra likes it, but I think it's superb!

  • @graapickens OMG ME TOO! my concert next week. its all i been practicing to make sure its so powerful

  • @graapickens I'm playing horn for this piece too. It sends chills down my spine. haha :D

  • we're playing it this year in concert band. this song is sooooo challenging yet at the same time sooooooo epic!

  • My marching band played Inferno, purgatory, and paradisio. My favorite piece of music we have ever played. We got 4th in the state competition that year ^_^.

  • That tympani makes me hot every time.

  • im playing this song in the symphonic band @ my school, its an excellent piece from my point of view and it adds a dark, evil and LOUD touch to any performance.

  • Midway, upon the journey of life, I found myself in a dark forest, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.

  • i sooo want to play this in band next year!

  • I played it at old town high and it was one of the most challenging pieces i've played
