@ABigOneLikeDaddys The point raised by the resident that got this done to his home. Actually it is odder because so far this is the only black piping I have seen as all others fitted by the Council across the Tower Hamlets seem to be white.
well except for the fact that the plume control kit outlet fitting was fitted horizontally which is wrong the rest of the flue strangely enough is OK the drop back to the boiler is required with condensing boilers, and the thermal efficiency of the flue is not effected by the single pipe as the boiler is designed with that option. the rubber seal in this case is decorative as the wall has been made good, personally I think the instal sucks, but thats what you get with council work.
@ogjimbob First of all all I said was Shoddy you use the word sucks. The contractor was approved by the Council but not employed by the council and the grill in the end of the pipe was only fitted two weeks ago nearly 9 months after the original installation. Yes the rubber seal is only decorative but it should have been fixed. As to the exhaust pipe being single that may seem OK but the pipe is low and can be swung on. Finally that pipe was not fixed to the bendy bit properly and was fixed.
@littlebigbrain I agree with your point about the swinging I was responding to the inference that the flue pipe was not acceptable because of it being a single pipe, my statement that it sucks I stand by as it is not how I would have handled the job however as I said its a council job and 30+ years of dealing with councils and then housing associations has taught me they are big on mission statements and promises, and could care less about poor workmanship as long as no one posts it on Ytube
@ogjimbob Agreed. This was posted here at the direct request of the leaseholder that had the work done. on top of what I have written the specifications asked for white piping not black as supplied but that was cosmetic rather than functional. Most pipes of this type fitted are a double pipe system out to the outflow point and lagged/boxed-in. I should take a shot from below as it will show another problem of the pipe being stretsched to avoid the column on the wall edge of the walkway.
My father is a pensioner and every time a repair is done, someone from the council calls to make sure its done properly. Although most people wont know if the boiler is fitted properly or not, I would contact to council. If the contractor was hired by Tower Hamlets Homes then the council will take this seriously.
Just now I telephoned the Chief Executive's office for Tower Hamlets Council and informed them of the state of the pipe work. I also informed them that I had posted the film on You Tube.
I'm a qualified engineer and one look at this shoddy workmanship concerned me greatly.
