@fazza2010 You do the deep outside edge like she said, but then she left out the tree-turn. You do a three-turn to start spinning. When you do a one foot spin it is on a backwards edge because in a two foot spin that same foot is on backwards edge also.
Hey Gina I have been working on my one foot spins for a very long time now but when I go into the spin I hold the open position for literally half a revolution and then go into a two foot spin it's really annoying how I keep doing that any tips?? Xx

Is it you spinning in the backround? It's really good! You can also do it off of a two foot spin, right? That's how my coach taught me, but you are DEFINETLY more specific.
Thanks
P.S. I love your accent! I have a friend that tries to teach me how to talk like that, but I'm not good at all.
i spin towards my right arm which is apparently the unusual way to spin - ive only just started the one footed by going from 2 footed to a one footed spin. how sharp does the u turn have to be to go straight into a one footed spin?

My coach had me try the normal set up in my attempts to learn the one foot spin, but I fell down like 25 times and about 13 times in a row. I was somewhat defeated in the moment. Yet, later that week, I came upon this video where you explained the setup you started with, the left outside, right outside and left outside three turn again into the spin. I downloaded it to my ipod and practiced at the rink. It worked a 100x better for me! You are more helpful than you could possibly know! Thanks!

thank you so much for your videos they are extremely helpful! i was wondering if you could do a video about how to be a graceful figure skater, because i have the spins down, speed and jumps, but i lack grace, and that's the most important element of being a figure skater.
i just started learning a one foot spin and I think i'm leaning too far forward because theres no sound when i spin and i feel like im up on my toe pick, my friends say im not but idk, any advice??
I have that feeling also, espaciallyt with the up right spin. But it also depends on the blades your using. I used first MK 21 series whom are basicly placed under the resport RF4. But now I use the MK double star blades, where the toe picks are first toe pick is place lower (so more near to the ice) SO your spins will be automateticly center!
You're really good! I have been trying my one foot spin for what seems like forever...sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I don't know if it's a confidence thing or me not doing it right...I have only ever done a superb one once and it felt amazing! My coach is a legend and is helping me out in so many ways, but I just can't do it THAT right, you know? Any tips?
i am sick of the one foot spin i keep spinning on the top of my blade when i tuck my leg in and its so annoying. also when i'm spinning in the open position i feel like i'm going to fall on my back because once i did. Now i feel like i'm never going to be able to do it. do you have any tips. thanks x
Firstly, I hope your knee is fully recoverred. Is it back to normal yet? Secondly, I'm just starting to learn this spin. My trace on the ice looks like a succession of 3-turns instead of loops, and I almost always have a toe-pick spin mark at some point. Is there anyting in particular that I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for replying. My coach is sorting it out but It's going to take a lot of practice. I'm only just starting to get the blade and toepick double 'scratch' mark on the ice.
@drzeitnot hope they're gud by now!! -->if not, ur three turn into the spin must start round a very tight circle, rather than a straight line or large circle, wind up sequence - crossovers, bring arms back, step onto ur spinning foot and make a tight circle on ur outside edge, do the 3 turn, hold ur free leg and arms out for a while to balance, keep ur spinning leg straight after the 3 turn- this will put the blade onto the rocker, but not the pick, pull in to speed it up, voila
@drzeitnot this might be a bit late, but sounds like you are shifting your weight from the toe to the heal while in the spin or wobbling, as you may feel, which would and could probably cause that tracing
I have a question: when your doing the backwards crossovers then you do that curve before the spin, how do you step out from the curve without falling? because I can't do that. And it is also harder for me to learn because i find it easier to spin clockwise.
I won't be able to give you advice unless I see what you are doing, but practice always helps! I don't think that being a clockwise skater makes learning any harder, though.
I'm working on the xover entrance as well. When I first started it, I had trouble with that step-out...a really deep bend in the knee is the key to a smooth step-out. Oh yes...and getting comfortable with the feeling of your free foot coming down on the ice at an *angle* to your skating foot. Practise that for a while on a stand-still, holding on to the boards, if you're not comfortable with it moving! That was how I learned it, anyway. :)
i've always learned to go into it from standstill pushing off the right toe pick but maybe this will get me more speed. can you give me tips on preparing for a biellman spiral. I can't get my leg up enough to catch my foot. I can do a regular catch spiral though.
I've been working on these darned spins for two of the four months I've been skating! I'm still afraid of spinning FAST, and still working on improving my posture, but all of those things are slowly coming. The one problem I haven't figured out yet is holding the spin on the 'sweet spot' on the rocker without bending my knee too much (I've been told I have, and that it's making me spin 'wide' and fall out of the spin). Can anyone maybe offer some suggestions? :|
Really helpful vid Gina. I'm currently trying to master these darned one-foot spins! XD I tend to have the problem with posture I reckon, because my blade does tend to scrape the ice, like on an edge, rather than spin nice and smoothly. Thanks for the tips ;)
the prettiest girl iv seen so far and very talented...your tips are helpful to me, im applying them and i always think of you whenever i practice my spin...thank you and i love you.
Well, when you spin you should be on your toe pick just slightly. If you feel you are on the toe pick too much, keep the weight a little further back on your blade; more on the ball of your foot.
Since you have the patience to make these videos, and seem to enjoy doing it, I think you already have to the two most important qualities for being a coach. You'll mak a good one!
hey- i love ur vids, but one thing i noticed was that in your one foot spins you have your free leg pretty far down-try to get it at a 90 degree angle...besides that looks great!
Thank you for the advice. :) I self-taught almost everything, so sometimes I have little issues/quirks that I never fixed. I guess that's one of them!
