I highly recommend visiting the new " Online Shanghai 2010 World Expo" at en.expo.cn . Most of the larger national pavilions are archived there as well as the overall Expo itself. Good work, CG Crystal and Expo Bureau!

@sirusboost For those not aware, Yeosu Special World Expo is about the Health of the Ocean and the Seashore. A very timely topic. Ironically, given what we know about petro consumption and the danger it poses to the world's oceans, the Expo takes place around the corner from one of Asia's largest oil refineries. Here's hoping that the Expo hosts note and account for this discrepancy.
DEAR VIEWERS, This weekend the Expo comes to an end. It has been my pleasure to host this video about it. Please share your memories here. Good news! The next Expo, the smaller but just as significant and timely Yeosu, Korea 2012 Special Expo -- all about "The Health of Our Oceans and Seashores" -- takes place in only 18 months. And the Milano 2015 Universal Expo, on a scale comparable to Shanghai, beckons. Its theme is "Food," and what better place than Italy for that? See you there! -- Bob
what an utterly disappointment! went there for 3 days, made it only into 4 pavilions (only because I had VIP access to Thailand / UK). Fcking hate the Chinese people.. bunch of rude loud mouth selfish people..... and multiply that by 400,000 inside the expo... couldnt stand it lining up with them in a 4 hours queue in the smelting sun.
@Valca000 Inasmuch as you were the Chinese people's guest, perhaps you should acclimate to the local customs. Push, shove, whatever -- I don't see that bitching after the fact makes it any more memorable. As for the pavilion situation: it's unforgivable that the planners did such a poor job preparing for the onslaught. Everyone was well informed that the daily crowds would be historic in proportion, yet the planners just ho-hummed it off as if it didn't matter. A lesson for Expos to come!
@cyberoid yeah, I guess I wasn't prepared at all and i cant really bitch about it
But to top it off, my group of friends were held hostages by the tour bus by not letting go of our luggage in the bags compartment. They demanded 500 Yuan / person otherwise we would missed the return flight... at the end we got the embassy involved.
@Valca000 Well, that's fair warning to other Expo attendees. Thanks. For more information, people planning on visiting the Expo should read Adam Minter's guide and daily reports on Shanghai Scrap, his excellent blog about all things Shanghainese and Expo.
USA pavilion discriminates against her own citizens. Canadians and Caucasian Americans can get into faster line by showing passports-but not me! why? because I have an Asian face! what kind of an insult I received from my own country when I'm overseas! boycott usa pavilion!

@beatriXlamB The Bureau of International Expositions' (BIE), a treaty organization for Expo nations, rules that all pavilions must be taken down in November, after the Shanghai Expo closes. Only the China Pavilion and some other special structures will remain. This is one reason why sustainable, greentech constructions are so important. It's reported that Disney Shanghai will occupy the Expo site (along with other developments) in 2011 and beyond.
@KAIKAIQIAN Dear Kaikaqian, I have heard otherwise. It's still a bit mysterious, isn't it? They're playing their cards very close to the breast. In any case, the Expo site is going to be extremely valuable property at the conclusion of the Expo.
If you attend, please bring an umbrella or clothing against the rain, for which protection so far is not adequate; eat hearty before you attend, as you may not bring food into the Expo and the local shops will be swamped; and plan your onsite visits in advance, keeping in mind that some queues may last hours, especially if security is in full force which it was not during the soft opening. To those who attend, have the very best time!
The overall takeaway from the "soft opening" last week, to test the facilities, was that a lot remains to be done but that the human side of the Expo, the staff and volunteers, are extremely kind, helpful, and calm.
It's highly recommended to read an article about the Shanghai Expo in the current issue of the blog, The Shanghaiist. Some of the issues visitors will face are discussed there.
@jommy7777 Taiwan is an island in the South China Sea east of the Mainland. The Taiwan Pavilion is located just next to the China Pavilion since the two have been drawing closer together of late.
@gmjssc Most countries will present in Mandarin, English, and their native languages as appropriate. Some will have translators for other popular languages.
@ldelporte See comment @ericown below. The US Pavilion is now almost complete. It is the subject of much controversy. See the Shanghai Scrap blog and Foreign Policy magazine for recent articles.
@LZShow12 It's in the Pudong District toward the south part of town, on the Huang Pu River. Shanghai is so large, it doesn't really have boundaries, just jurisdictional lines on maps.
@cyberoid I know it's still few months to go and lots of work to be done. But some of the things aren't going to change much...namely the water of the huang pu river is not going to be as clear and blue and trees aren't going to grow as big as they show in the vid. Just like all architectural site plans, they always look wonderful on the picture.
well, you can see those different buildings (which are usually quite impressive: for example the eiffel tower was one of those building when the world expo was in Paris one century ago). Moreover, inside each one you can learn stuff about the country, there are some concerts, painting expo... it's to promote your country to the world. :)
The absolutely best online source of information on worlds's expos/fairs is the Expomuseum, by graphics designer and expo historian. Urso Chappell. Do a Google search. Expomuseum is an excellent website.
The US is there, but barely. For the most recent report, read Atlantic's Shanghai correspondent Adam Minter's article in Foreign Policy (online magazine), "How the U.S. Blew It at the Shanghai World Expo," Mar 8, 2010. Use Google to find the article.
Probably. Millions of Chinese will want to. However, it might be easier to do now. Contact your travel agent or the nearest Chinese consulate for more information.
There is a Taipei Pavilion and it's conceptually unique, all about the "wireless city." I can't post URLs here, but if you do a search on Google for "Taipei Pavilion," you can read about it and see some wonderful models and architectural presentations.. It's scheduled to be finished next month (March).
Interestingly, part of the site of the Expo is expected to be used for the new, forthcoming Disneyland Shanghai. What a coincidence...not. Clearing the land for the Expo made possible final planning for Disneyland Shanghai.
@cyberoid so the plan for the new Disneyland is confirmed? Coincidence is the word, lolz. Well then we'll see how Disneyland will make Shanghai a better tourist attraction by the time it is done.
on a neutral note. China's poverty rate is still high. but there are alot of millionaires too. and majority of wealth are being held by small group of invididuals.
The Atlantic Monthly's Shanghai correspondent, Adam Minter, has posted "5 Shanghai Expo-related reasons to look forward to 2010" on The Shanghaiist, the essential blog for Shanghai residents and those who are Shanghai fans. I can't list the URL here -- YouTube objects -- but the date of the article is December 24, 2009. Look it up and have a good laugh. The Expo's Caribbean Jerked chicken will be manna from heaven!
Many of the African nations are setting up within pavilions provided for them by the Chinese Hosts. China appropriated the equivalent of $100 million for this purpose. More affluent nations like South Africa have their own pavilioins.
Further detail: each region will have a shared pavilion for nations that otherwise would be pressed to have a place at the Expo. As a result, almost every nation in the world will be at the Expo, one way or another, courtesy of the Chinese Hosts who believe a World Expo should be just that: a _World_ Expo.
Oh my goodness. That was huge! I didn't even know this existed until I came upon it tonight. I've just finished applying for English Teaching jobs in Shanghai tonight. Woh.
Just returned to Roma, Italy from Shanghai for new year eve. In this days I've also seen the Expo area with the pavillons almost ready for 1st May 2010 opening.
Viewing live the chinese pavillon was simply stunning. Exquisite building, really. Bravo China!
I bet this is gonna be an awesome pageant!....looking forward to it...By the way ,we are gonna get free tickets from our company's welfare...IS THAT COOL?

The US is there, but barely. For the most recent report, read Atlantic's Shanghai correspondent Adam Minter's article in Foreign Policy (online magazine), "How the U.S. Blew It at the Shanghai World Expo," Mar 8, 2010. Use Google to find the article.

I 'll be therein june2010. can you buy tix at that time?
LZShow12 2 years ago
Probably. Millions of Chinese will want to. However, it might be easier to do now. Contact your travel agent or the nearest Chinese consulate for more information.

who needs another Disneyland when you have this?
I wonder if they are allowing a "Chinese Taipei Pavilion".
murderink 2 years ago 3
There is a Taipei Pavilion and it's conceptually unique, all about the "wireless city." I can't post URLs here, but if you do a search on Google for "Taipei Pavilion," you can read about it and see some wonderful models and architectural presentations.. It's scheduled to be finished next month (March).

@cyberoid i see, thanks for the info.

Interestingly, part of the site of the Expo is expected to be used for the new, forthcoming Disneyland Shanghai. What a coincidence...not. Clearing the land for the Expo made possible final planning for Disneyland Shanghai.
cyberoid 2 years ago
@cyberoid so the plan for the new Disneyland is confirmed? Coincidence is the word, lolz. Well then we'll see how Disneyland will make Shanghai a better tourist attraction by the time it is done.
murderink 2 years ago
I don't know if it's confirmed, murderink. It's a common rumor.

China's rise is un-rivaled in history, from huge quantitys of famine and poverty to the Olympics and now the World Expo. China is amazing.

@abc56975314
on a neutral note. China's poverty rate is still high. but there are alot of millionaires too. and majority of wealth are being held by small group of invididuals.
passwordpassopen 1 year ago
@abc56975314 there still are quite a lot of people in China who live in poverty

The Atlantic Monthly's Shanghai correspondent, Adam Minter, has posted "5 Shanghai Expo-related reasons to look forward to 2010" on The Shanghaiist, the essential blog for Shanghai residents and those who are Shanghai fans. I can't list the URL here -- YouTube objects -- but the date of the article is December 24, 2009. Look it up and have a good laugh. The Expo's Caribbean Jerked chicken will be manna from heaven!

hi i want to know about africa participation
sandolphe 2 years ago
Many of the African nations are setting up within pavilions provided for them by the Chinese Hosts. China appropriated the equivalent of $100 million for this purpose. More affluent nations like South Africa have their own pavilioins.
cyberoid 2 years ago
Further detail: each region will have a shared pavilion for nations that otherwise would be pressed to have a place at the Expo. As a result, almost every nation in the world will be at the Expo, one way or another, courtesy of the Chinese Hosts who believe a World Expo should be just that: a _World_ Expo.

Just returned to Roma, Italy from Shanghai for new year eve. In this days I've also seen the Expo area with the pavillons almost ready for 1st May 2010 opening.
Viewing live the chinese pavillon was simply stunning. Exquisite building, really. Bravo China!
