  • I would never put a jap engine in my 3.2, I would rather have a 3.3 turbo, 964RS engine fitted. Everyone is entitled to do what the hell they want to their car, whether it be fitting a Jap 'rice burner' engine or Yanky V8. Although, looks like a good job done, but why not drive it outa the garage. Does it not have a gearbox?

  • @verdeboyo you realize the subaru engine can be had for $800, right? And a 3.3 Turbo engine would be well over $7500, right?

  • pull that shit out of the garage you idiot !! lets see it GO""""""

  • Proof

    Of

    Rich

    Spoiled

    Children

    Having

    Everything

  • fantastic job !

  • Beautiful eg33 911! What trans are you using in it??

  • WHY?

  • @littlefrank90 See the top rated comment thats why.

  • @littlefrank90 SVX engine > more power, more torque, more MPG, more reliable, about 1/10th the price of a rebuilt porsche engine.

  • What a brilliant use of the EG33. Bravo.

  • EG33 ftw! I plan on swapping one in my Impreza RS sometime soon lol

  • it is not as beautiful as an aircooled porsche or VW flat engine ;)

    but it rocks, too ;)

  • whats with that ridiculous white spoiler?

  • @ELKT90racer90 you don't know much about old porsche's do you?

  • @Mr6Chuck5Taylor1 i know they dont have that peice of shit on it thats for sure

  • I just purchased the 3.3L for my 912. Can you help me with the wiring? are you using the factory wiring harness and the ECM, or using a stand alone. thanks.

  • That isn't a Leggy motor FYI. Subaru only made 25K of the EG33s in the SVXes.

  • @4dirtywheels

Porsche builds Subaru engines, partially. Variable valve system on Subarus is made in Germany, by Porsche. So yeah. That and they worked together dating back to WW2. Subaru, then called something else was the main aircraft engine builder for Japanese. Porsche, well we know what they did for Hitler. Subaru engines are not exactly cheap. Thats why, in order to offset the cost, Subaru gives us Kia quality seats and paint.

  • This would sound sweet with some cams

  • Sounds absolutely nothing like a Porsche. The sound is part of the soul of the car IMHO. Still happy to see others enjoying these cars, they are very fun to drive. I'd rather see non porsche engines in these cars than have them rot away on someones driveway. Good luck with the car.

  • what kind of exhaust set up does this have (size of pipes, mufflers etc) ?

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • It's a great great engine . I put these into VW vans

Good job. I want to put a 3l Legacy into my 914.

Just turn the key and go!

  • Blasphemy ! ;-)

  • I have an 85 911 and wouldnt even consider to throw another motor in there unless it was a rebuilt porsche motor or the motor was the one that was originally in the car and having it rebuilt

  • Care to elaborate?

  • Calm down!!! if you knew anything about Porche you would know that thay are the same enignes because Porche designed Subaru engines it is all German.

  • Sorry "I mess up Big time" anyways Subaru is not German JUST THE ENGINE DESIGN now get off your high horse and quit calling stuff "gay" it is extremely over and miss used.

  • gas mileage, reliability, tunability, maintenence cost, lack of funds for replacement porsche engine

  • 2.7' were magnesium and were prone to warping. 3.0/3.3/3.2 all went to aluminium and pretty much stopped pulling head studs and uncontrolable leaking.

  • I think the purist will not appreciate your efforts. Me being one of them. Due only to the fact of the Porsche marque and it's racing heritage. I appreciate Subaru's heritage as a rally car first and foremost, however there is a cashe that Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborgini have that, I'm sorry to say, Subaru just can't manage.

Anyone that has become successful to a point where they have reserve cash flow will search out the nearest Porsche dealership.........not the nearest Subaru dealership.

  • I think it's good effort. Subaru have reliable engines, similar sound and same layout - and usually more economical. Personally my way round would be to put a Porsche engine into a Subaru - that'd probably turn some heads! Why does your comment have to be a negative dig because you have slightly pessimistic views on other peoples efforts? Mr. Porsche himself used VW engines to begin with, and you wouldn't catch me driving a Bug!

  • Mr Porsche designed the fucking VW. Big diff here

  • What do you mean by that? I was supporting this video... I don't think you really grasped the message.

  • I dont think you grasped my response. I do NOT support this video. Putting a subaru engine in a Porsceh is a crime to automotive hostory.

  • No, its just a crime to idiot purists/elitists.

  • I agree. He shouldn't have put that perfection of an engine in that car. He shouldve kept the original unreliable engine, that lasts 500 miles, before a major overhaul is needed. Whereas a Subaru EG33 that goes for years without any work being needed. He must be nuts hahaha. Does anyone remember old bugs? Nice light bodies but terrible mechanics.

  • Someone call the whaaaambulance. Porsche and subaru have worked side by side for years, and porsche have even part developed subaru's H6 engines, especially on the later EZ30's. I don't see what the big deal is...

  • @ReubenHorsley This is true they are the only company's that still make boxer motors, so it make since that they would work to gather. the intake on the EZ30 says made in Germany. I think that if your rebuilding a classic 911 on a budget a EZ30 is a great solution, its so much cheaper then a Porsche motor. as well so are the parts for it and there easy to find.

  • I think any type of coversion is great, plus if you know anything about the porsche 911 engine you would have to agree they dont last long and are very exspensive to rebuild, i have a 911 targa that i´m currently converting to a 2.0 dohc efi ford engine, i want to be able to go a long way without worrying about breaking down, i love my porsche 911 but the engines are not long lived in my opinion.

  • You either own a 2.7 car or a 996, any other Porsche motor is absolutely bullet proof. It's bad enough putting a Subaru motor in a Porsche, but a Ford, you have got to be kidding. Buy a Ford with a 2.0 motor and sell your Porsche to someone who appreciates and can afford the marque.

As for you lxqGO, Porsche is VW dummy.

  • Just for your information, I own my own place house in 1000 m of land in spain, plus i own a house in uk, ive always owned and run 911´s , ive earned my money doing diesel conversions and restoring classic cars, so i´m in the postiton where i can play around with my cars, thats why i love conversions, the ford zetec 2.0 is an amazing motor, so i´m trying it, if its no good i´ll do another conversion !! HAPPY DAYS when your well off.

  • What you need to do is ask this guy why he has done the engine swap, its usually down to economy (not in this case i think) or reliability issues, thats the 2 main reasons why people have conversions done, i owned a 3.2 911 which i sold last year, the engine was perfect with no issues, but 2.7 engines are poor in my view, but they are basically the same engine as the 3.0 3.3 3.2 etc.

  • It's plain to see why a purist couldn't appreciate it.

I have a 1980 911 SC with the 3.0 liter engine which puts out ~180hp from what I've read. I would love to have the eg33 in my car

Sure, the engine it has now is actually pretty reliable. But since I don't like to turn wrenches, it's quite expensive to maintain. This SVX engine would give me a bump in power, better gas mileage, a great sound, and decreased maintinence costs.

Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it :).

  • What ever works I guess. I know a very famous racer with a womens name, made a lot of money off his Cobra's and the English didn't seem to mind.

  • Porsche parts very quality, great stuff but please lets stop bullshitting around thinking Porsche is suddenly very affordable. An ebay eg20 isnt that expensive compared to a 911 engine. Not to mention the Porsche name adds to the price just like a bmw m3 engine is 3 times the price of a rb20 which will push more power stock anyway.

  • BTW, this car now weighs about 2370 lbs, significantly lighter than a stock 911 sc.

  • das ist deutsche wert arbeit =)

  • Das war vielleicht mal deutsche Wertarbeit. Ein EG33 hat da drin nichts zu suchen !

  • PPPPPELCIAN,I love this car

  • Amazing job. Don't show they purists though. Guaranteed that at least one of them will shit a chicken if they see a Subaru motor back there.

  • Interesting, did you have to cut anything? How about the sump/oil pan, i know they hang really low, did you have to change it? how about mating it to the trans? clutch/pp? and the radiator/hoses??

Do Porsche's even have motor mounts?

    This has perked my interest.

  • You sold your cars soul.

  • Yeah, it has one with more power, more torque, better mpg, and more reliability now. Darn.

  • You think?

There's no substitute for class with some people...

  • Although I like all boxer engiens, air or water cooled, I still wouldn't make the tradeoff of all that extra weight and complexity for a just a 40 hp or so increase. And Porsches (rear engine ones at least) have always been know for exceptional reliability. As simple as volkswagen too (well almost).

  • Do you realize how much any Porsche part costs? I don't think you do. A subaru Eg33 can be beat on for 200,000 miles with only oil changes, and will still run fine. You CANNOT do that with a porsche engine. Things wear sooner, and they cost a fuckton to repair. Eg33 is a non purists dream solution: More power, more torque, more reliability, more mpg, and CHEAP (compared to porsche part inflation bs)

  • And more weight haha. I know porsche parts are expensive (1 friggin lug bolt for a 914 is 19 bucks!), but it's a Porsche. You gotta pay to play.

  • "And more weight haha"

Ok, if you're so smart, tell us the weight difference. Don't try to be stupid. I'd rather own a Japanese Boxer engine anyday.

  • porsche parts are not expensive common misconception, the labor is expensive but the cars are easy to work on and most are interchangible with vw parts

  • Really? Go spec out some headstuds for a 911 SC. Oh wait. They're $1200.

  • You're exagerrating the cost to justify a mongrel car that you only like because you can't afford the real thing. The next thing you'll be suggesting is getting a Ferrari California body and put a RX-7 engine in it....owning a Porsche take balls & a little cash both of which you don't appear to have....

  • Well, there is a 4Rotor 26B used in the LeMans...

  • You're just pissed that you spend so much on such a wimpy fucking car. Porsche snobs are retarded. There are many new engines that kick the crap out of old flat sixes, in EVERY aspect.

  • 1) I'm more than happy with the money i've spent on my 911

2)If 911s are so wimpy why are they so highly revered by over 90% of motorsport experts

3)If saying wrecking a classic by putting a scubby engine in it is snobby then i'm a snob.

If the engine is that good why don't you build something good around it from the ground up and why don't performance kits like westfield, caterham or radical use it in their cars? You're just a cheapskate...

  • Cash 68 seems to be stuck on a non-existent concept of Porsche parts being a million dollars for a bolt or some crap like that

  • Uh, they are retardedly overpriced compared to anything else. They represent poor value. If you snobs think this is such a bad idea I'm wondering why you'd even click on this video to begin with.

  • sorry to break it to you but 911 motors of this generation are one of the easiest to work on and are lauded for people doing them in backyards kcpamp and i belong to a forum which is for people who enjoy working on our cars , and its the initial cost of a 911 motor that throws some people off a factory motor for this car can be had for 2 grand but most are sold for 5 thousand , which is not worth it for someone who can build something similar and cheaper and produce more hp,nice try tho

  • You do that. Meanwhile this guy will enjoy more hp, more torque, and 200-300k maintenance free miles.

PS: Have fun with the repairs! German stuff is so easy to work on!

  • @cash68 If you are comparing this to the 3 litre SC engine you had, then yes it has lots more reliability. As the engine studs alone are a major issue and job to do on SC. But, if you compare to a 3.2, 964, 993 engine then the reliability etc goes out of the window. The Porsche engines produce far better torque, as it's not all about BHP as it seems to be the case with Imprezas and EVOs. Chip a jap cart and the reliability goes down.

  • Scubby engines are notoriously un-economical plus performance gains are from strapping on a turbo charger. If you want that just get a WRX not fuck up a classic car with a class less piece of shit

  • You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

  • Un economical? What? Subies get relatively blah miles per gallon because they are all wheel drive, you moron. AWD= more parasitic loss. You're clueless.

  • thes engine ill fit easily in a subaru

  • i knew i recognized this car,its nice to see another pelican showin his car off, very nice conversion,i loved reading youre posts best of luck with that car

  • I think this is excellent. Subaru engines are as cheap, reliable, and easily repaired as Porsche engines are expensive, cantankerous, and complicated.

  • i like my engines flat, but not my girls! oh no no, nobody likes flat chicks!

btw how hard was the swap?

  • cash68 you are so hardcore... will you please be my buddy.

  • What a pussy ass rev.

  • Yo, the wing on that car is fucking MASSIVE! How the hell can you see over that damn thing?

  • go in a porsche some day.... turn around and look through the rear windscreen.... the spoiler looses hardly any visibility... lines up with lower part of trunk.

  • Oh wow! Well, what punked me was the spoiler location in this video. Sorry, but I don't know much about Porsche as I do about Subaru.

  • not a biggie. btw if i was seeming like an ass srry.

yeah it is wierd. in the 997 you cant see the spoiler at all. hardly noticable when its raised.... if you imagine a line through the side of the car from the top of the headlight arch to the rear, its above the driver ect. this is where the wing should be about. also picture the rear trunk as a 45deg angle, and the spoiler is at a 45 deg angle aswell the top of it will sit parralel with the ground... weird to explain but its great designing!!

  • nice 911, love the subie boxer engine. flat is where its at.

  • wow, that is awesome!! sounds great. now i gotta get an exhaust on my svx! among other things:)
