  • this is just awesome I love public transportation, i have video of PATCO going from Camden to Philly I need to post sometimes. Isnt a city as great as its transportation!

  • Berwyn! The best red line stop!

  • I tend to agree- the view from the station is one of the best in Chicago. Somewhere I hope I have some stills of it. If not, I'll have to take some next time I'm there.

  • You just reminded me of (I think) Svengalli that comedian Vampire character. Wasn't it him who would say "Berwyn!" all the time for some reason??

  • wow so glad you made this, brings back memories.

  • You're welcome, glad you liked it!

  • Stayed next door to the people's church at 941 west lawrence for five months in '07. Worked at BP Indiana. By the way, what does Bryn Mawr mean?

  • No kidding, so this was a trip down memory lane!

That's a good questions, sounds Celtic to me, I'm guessing Welsh or Scottish.

Thanks for subscribing, glad you like the vids, you still in The Region, or have you moved on?

  • Bryn Mawr is Welsh for "big hill." It's one of the many names in that part of Chicago that come from the Main Line area of Philadelphia: Ardmore, Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Devon, Wayne, and I think Thorndale come from there. The guy who laid out the streets in Edgewater loved that part of Philadelphia. He also loved Scotland: Balmoral and some other streets come from there.

  • When I was much younger, I used to work at Transit America in Philadelphia, PA where they built those trains for the CTA.

I recall seeing the last train ever built - after that, Transit America shut down forever.

Let history know that it was not Amtrak, it was the CTA as the last American made subway cars.

I drove by the former site of Transit America last month or so and now it's a huge golf club.

All of those huge buildings are gone (including the railroad tracks) !!

  • GRANVILLE--IF YA STOP THERE YA HAVE TO EAT AT STANDEE'S RESTAURANT AND SAY HI TO MY FRIEND OMEGA!! and yes-the red line smells like piss. go figure-it runs 24/7 from Howard to 95th Dan Ryan and is home to a million bums. that black building i use3d to live in-I MISS CHICAGO!!!

  • Glad to give you a taste of home.

Yes, Granville has many iconic stores- Standees, Metropolis coffee, U'N Joy (took us months to figure out that meant "you enjoy" not "un-joy"... there's a similarly named shop at Thorndale, something like "Y8rs..."), the Avil, the Pump Room... and now Bornhoeffens has a Biergarten. Too bad the guy who had the coffee shop @ G&B died, its gone through at least 3 iterations since then.

If ya come back to visit the old place, you'll be amazed @ the new bldg!

  • Yea I love riding there too except it usaly smells like piss, but then again so does the whole red line, I live @ granville stop

  • cool video

  • Thanks, glad you liked it. I love sitting in the last car of an "L" train.
