I think people need to stop comparing games. New space game comes out, "OMG EVE COPY". New Fantasy game comes out "OMG WOW RIPOFF". At this point, every genre has been done, of course games are going to strike some similarities here and there. I played Eve and I will give this a shot, because as in-depth as Eve is, it can get seriously boring if you don't dedicate a buttload of time.

If anything, this looks more similar to Planetside, or Tabula Rasa.

@SoftTrident They are looking at implementing that down the line. There are technical details to work out first and they said they are trying to figure it out. First however they wanted to make sure the smaller craft were perfect and didn't want to make the fighter combat mediocre just to implement rushed Capital ships that again would end up being mediocre also.

I don't understand why all of the great space MMORPG developers like CCP (Eve) which I played for close to two years and the other space MMORPG developers do't get together to create one great MMORGP where all of the functions can be played out, like darkstar you have to invade planets through bases that you have to bomb and use troops to capture which could be turned into a FPS scenario? With tech doubling every two years this type of platform might be expected in maybe five years. Cool game.

I play Eve and a few other online games. I will probably end up playing this one, too.

That being said, I just can't help but wonder why designers seem to insist that there is a center of gravity in space meaning that they have to bank into turns or an atmosphere so we can see contrails.

Nobody said you have to do banking turns. Most of these demonstrations are done with the assisted flight mode turned on.

Instead of assuming the engine trails are intended to be contrails (hahah yeah right), think of them as being part of your ship's HUD. It would make sense to have a similar overlay to greatly enhance a pilot's situational awareness.

Hopefully JGE turns out really well. I was looking for something akin to EVE with pilot-able ships. But this still looks quite promising.

That probably has something to do with the fact that there actually is gravity (and thus a center of gravity) in space.

Space is not vacuum, and gravity is almost everywhere near planets (near is a relative term).

Its not that between the earth and moon there is no gravity, cuz... yes there is!

Hell, its because of gravity in space that our satelites stay in orbit...

This game wont compete with EVE. They are completely seperate games in style and game play. Therefore can not compare. EVE you dont have complete control (i.e. you cant use the keys to move your ship freely) Jumpgate you have complete control over your ship and while EVE is more tactical, Jumpgate is supposed to be more fast paced so both games are appealing to different types of play. I like EVE a lot too, can't wait to see what this game will play like.

- it's because in this game, they're never in the middle of nowhere in space... most jumpgates reside in the middle of nebulae, which are of various psychadelic colours.

Space isn't as dark as it seems, just the areas inbetween celestial bodies are dark.

I don't know if I'm a freak here, but I just fall for Sci-Fi - but it has to be "realistic". I wan't to be able to fly into a station manually, having to navigate through the docking deck and then turn the engines off when I'm done.

The X-Series have the docking thing a bit, but it's still a bit too simple / artificial.

LOVED Freelancer though :P trading from omicron in a group till 7.a.m when suddenly everyone noticed the sun's coming up ^^

Its like comparing a random fantasy mmo with wow. You would find wow elements every now and then pretty much everywhere. And its the same with this, since its space it will probably look pretty similar to any other spacegame regardless of genre.

Though from what ive seen from some of the videos, both the graphics and gameplay look alot more actionlike and lush than Eve. But i guess its just my personal opinion which everyone is entitled to:)

Well, from what i've heard in interviews and such is that instead of making the space realistic(cold, dark place where no one wants to be) They are making it colorful, lush and probably every zone will have something it will be remembered for.

For example, im thinking of when Scott Brown told and showed us the zone where the sun is to hot the asteroids and such are burning. Which you really could see and it looked awesome.

Hopefully the gameplay will be just as good as the environments.
