This is normal with the IS turned on. It is the IS in the camera. A simple test is to turn the IS off. With my E-510, I thought it was a bad auto focus motor the first time I heard it. Turning the IS off, eliminated the noise. The super sonic wave filter only operates when you first turn the camera on, and there is an indicator light.
The noise is the vibration of the dust removal feature, it is normal for the camera to sound like this when turning it on or off. It has nothing to do with image stabilization.
Just looks at the English Manuel on Page 36, se Sound comes from the IS. When you switch of the IS, there is no sound and vibration. The dust vibration makes no sound.
@disturbed1777: The Sound comes from the Image Stabilisation. When you will switch of this sound you must switch of the Image Stabilisation before you switch of the camera.
yes thats normal I just got my e-510 as well and it does the same thing. For people who are interested in buying the E-510 get it! There are dozens of websites on the web that will tell you why it should be high on your list of D-SLRs.
Well that answers my question about my e510. Mine does the exact same thing. I noticed that if you turn off the image stabilization and then switch off the camera it doesn't make the noise. I would presume its a normal function of the stabilization motor. At least i hope so....
Normal for E-520 too. Iti is auto calibration of IS system
