  • As a resident of Slab City for over 15 years, I like seeing Leonard share his creation with the world, "Thanks Leonard"

and Wayne was a friend who was happiest when he shared his love of music, RIP buddy, thanks for the memories and the Jam times, both in my cool room as well as the range. your Missed

I have been filming at the Slabs for over 15 years

to see my video's of Slab City, go to youtube/knotellin

  • RIP Wayne!

  • I don't know about all this talk about how dangerous this place is. This place seems completely tame to me. I found the place to be a breath of fresh air.

  • Palm Springs to Salton Sea to Slab City to Julian to LA...best day of driving in my life.

  • this place remind me of whoville

like the whos from dr seus you know.

    because its all colorful :)

  • WHERE EXACTLY IS DIS PLACE AT?

  • its in nilad> niland is in the imperial valley > the imperial valley is in southern california > southern california is in north america > north america is in the world> the world is in the universe...

    so on and so forth..

  • The location is about 50 miles outside of Palm Springs. The entire area of the Salton Sea development began in the 1950's and was fueled by greedy real estate developers. Uh, their plans sort of failed.... and all the people who "invested" were left holding the bag while the scumbag Realtors laughed and moved onto other scams.

  • I dislike realtors more than most but the failure of the Salton Sea was due to the salinity of the water. The fish die by the thousands. They smell and attract insects. Agricultural pollution contributes as well, as did a flood 20 years ago. So let us give credit where it is due.

  • hows this scary

i think it is buitiful and im shue slab city is as well

  • Creepy...Not for the faint of heart. Bring your gun.

  • No.... miketheday.... bring TWO guns! And don't stop driving... just cruise through at about 25 mph.

  • Salvation Mtn is cool, Slab City is creepy and dangerous as allhell but it has a hell of an interesting past. The hotsprings are great. Hey I remember him that's "Insane Wayne" lol

  • Sorry about a Duh! question but what is "slab city?" I'm thinking of visiting Salton City for a few hours this summer. Is it a good idea?

  • slab city is an old abandoned military base and all that is left are concrete slabs where the buildings were. hence slab city. in the summer it can get 120 plus soooo hope ya like heat. down by niland and other places are great hotsprings

  • GhostwithGuns: I actually looked up the base and it was a bit hard to find info... but its historical, really.... during World War II the area was used for training General Patton's Tank training... (he was famous) ... and then after WWII, it was closed down. Apparently, it was Marine Corps operated, though, rather than Army. Now.... and for the last 60 years.... its nothing but a hang out for homeless types and their "recreational vehicles"...

  • GOD = Pollution

  • i couldn't agree more, though i have a definite weakness for kitsch folk art...

  • @secretMachinePollution probably isn't a big concern on an old military base.

  • @MrSafetymeeting My sentiments exactly LOL!! There are old barrels out in the slabs marked toxic, so I'm sure the beauty of Salvation Mountain out weighs the concern of the paint used. sheesh

  • Mikey05 - almost killed OR kidnapped - which one was it?

  • leonard knight is a great man

  • Leonard is in the centuries old tradition of the holy man in the desert. He is one of the purest people you'll ever meet. If you go out there, bring him some paint.

  • Aside from the elderly couple who operated the only coffee shop in the area who were normal, Leonard is the ONLY other normal guy around there ! lol.

  • @robertmartinez The majority of the population is retired.I don't think anyone out there would mind not fitting your idea of normal. The majority of Americans are brainwashed dumbasses working their asses off to feed thegovernments ability to go to war and have million dollar partys.

  • I've been here... Salton Sea will give you nightmares, seriously.

  • what was it about the Salton Sea that gave you nightmares?

  • dude...slab city reminds me of the movie "The Hills have Eyes" I almost was killed or kidnapped over there. No Joke.

  • haha i know rite lol.

  • i love the fact that America has a place like this where anyone who wants to can just park up and live there as long as they wish for free.
