Um what i think you all should know is that you don't attack with the sharp end of a katana, you use the back thats why it's blunt and when there is a opening you use the sharp end. This does not take to days to learn. This is for all you who think its fine to have a dent in your sword.. I'll die :O
Did the abused, cheap china steel junk, snapped and spring back to cut you yet? No sword is made to chop wood. Find softer material approximating flesh and bones. Very light green branches are safe. And get a axe for the wood chore.
@newtubetubetube Thats not true, a cheap katana(anything not tamahagane or L6) should not be used to cut wood, if you can cut wood with an axe, a real sword should be able to do it better and take less or no damage, its a sword.
@newtubetubetube In the old days of Japan, top sword smiths, each brought with him 2 of him best works, would gather around and do cutting tests on stones or metals until the blade snaps to determine the quality of the blades and the craftsmanships of the sword smiths. No sword is made to chop wood? Why don't you go read a little before you go commenting on videos you idiot?
He's just showing us the katana he bought. He never described himself as a samurai. He wants to just show the blade and give it a try. That's all. If I buy a medieval knight sword, it doesn't mean I'm trying to be a real knight etc. Talk about fighting philosophy on forums based on the topic. Not on Youtube sword review videos. Writing philosophies of war/fighting on a sword review video makes you look like a dumbass troll. "OMG he's not wielding the sword like a scholar pro! What an herecy!"
Disgusting...So how can you treat your katana? if you have the same respect to your soul you're going well eh ...scratch a katana is a disgrace for a samurai, and more show off trying to stick it in a trunk handle it suffers
@fryland fist of all he is not samurai, secondly saying to scratch a katana is a disgrace for a samurai just makes u sound stupid, the samurai got scratches on their katana all the time, its called war, if you block a sword with your sword it is going to leave a scratch so if a samurai never scratched their katana that would meen that samurai never saw battle, and lastly he is just showing the durability of his katana so next time why dont u think before you post so u wont sound idiotic.
@shinobiwarrior1990 first, he isn't in a war, he was playing with a katana, with a gun.
second, either a samurai or not (which is not my problem) for which we continue this "philosophy" marked on the bushido, which is doing as little a lack of respect for all to itself. If he wants to do us no harm woodcutter who view the rest.
@fryland yes i know he isnt in a war, i dont think he was playing with it, he had nice control over the katan and his cuts werent bad, wich leads me to beleive that hes had some kind of training. I just think he was simply trying to demenstrate the strength and duriblility of the blade.
I am loving all the abuse this guy is getting from "serious" martial artists....he is doing what any good samurai would do!! he is testing the blade possibly to destruction. I always buy swords in pairs, one to test, one for competition!...I suspect these abusive types don't even do any form of sword fighting, otherwise they would have more respect for the fact a blade can break...easily. (in the same vein if you think about ju jutsu arm bars..I see MMA Idiots who tap out way before its sore!)
Any time you make a video about Katana, it's like someone lets out a bunch of wannabe samurai who seem to always know more about the video maker (unless maybe he is a little old oriental man).
People who are apparently each descendants of a noble line of (Caucasian) samurai master swordsman who finds legitimate "destructive testing of a fabricated sword" to somehow insult his ancient lineage of knowledge.
Once you take a sword from its place of rest (The saya) and irrespective of cost, respect should be given to a sword that can cut a 3 inch branch in half.
Walking around like an Indiana Jones wanna be prick... get a life!
Or maybe - Channel that stupidity into the martial way, Kendo,Iaido, Iai jutsu - or hopefully kenjutsu... so they will teach you the undicernable truth about how to respect something.
@SalvatorQuaro nah 9260 is one of the best steels out there for a sword its up on the t9 tool steel level...meaning unless u get a bunked blade......that thing is GOING TO CUT. sick ass sword btw...i have the yamakami sgc katana.
@ultimAvalon i assume hes showing off the structural integrity of the blade dude... plus you see how well controlled that blade was, good luck killin him.
this is not real Japanese katana, and this is Cheaper imitation, real katana was cut this pipe WOULD Also cost over $ 85,000 and would not damage of her
@SalvatorQuaro he basically means, "Your katana is fake, a real Katana would cut through this pipe, and a real Katana costs 85.000$+ and after cutting this pipe it wouldn't have any damages". Well yeah, I don't believe his words either. But if you were in front of me, I would take your Katana and cut off your right hand!
@SalvatorQuaro The sword is all yours lol. I would wish it was legal to buy one in denmark :S I think it is really awesome to buy such a sharp and good looking blade for that price!
But still, you damaged your sword by testing it on a metal pipe which made me angry. testing it on wood was fine, it looked funny.
@kulikulda88 You obviously watch too much anime. Sorry to burst your bubble, but not even an authentic nihonto could cut through this pipe. Or at least not in one swing. Katanas are awesome, but people need to realize that they can't defy the laws of physics.
All swords (asside from cheaply made immitations or wall hangers) are lethal and are made with a specific purpose and a style to match. All swords (asside from cheaply made immitations or wall hangers) are lethal and are made with a specific purpose and a style to match. A european broadsword used with a Japanese style will be inefficient, likewise with a katana and a european style. Some styles feel more natural to people than others. Some forms of combat work better in certain situations, so its not a matter of what sword is better. What style for what situation and what opposing weapon is a better arguement.

@SouthFloridaBiker I would say so. High carbon steel blades are required for any reliable cutting. Sharpness is a major factor in cutting, but lesser quality steels are more prone to damage and wont hold a sharp edge for very long.
