  • What the fuck is with that accent STEVE!!! really let down by this... David Bowie's lived in America for 20 odd years and still has his cockney accent. Sell out Steve. yes sir no sir three bag full sir mr bigshot movie producers.

  • Do American people really find this David Letterman guy funny? He makes me cringe when he attempts to make a joke. I like American programmes, and the actors, but the talk show hosts there seem terrible.

  • @MrThesuperboy i'm american and i can't stand him. i like to watch craig ferguson though, just about every night

  • UK != London, England. Such muppets. And Alan hates London with a passion.

  • You people are just splidding hairs.

  • Daft Americans!

  • He only has a slight american tinge, but so what? Even if he was full on yank it would be understandable because he spends a lot of time there among americans.

  • press 1 repeditly

  • what the fuck? why is he doing an almost american accent?????

  • Alan Partridge is a character that Steve Coogan created.

  • lol at the American tinted accent. What a jerk!

  • @Tagemandbagem Americans don't understand other accents. He sounds plenty English to American ears. My mum's Australian and she had to take the edge off her accent, cause people couldn't understand her.

  • that was a bit short

  • What the hell???? He was just about to do Bob Geldof and you cut it! Damn!

  • Oh my why is he puuting that accent on!!! o my days. Transatlantic then normal then back to the fake crap

  • i wish u uploaded the full interview

  • is he speaking "american"? Is he nervous, taking the piss, or just embarrassed by his accent?

  • What is everyone on about? his accent hasn't changed at all :/

  • @welshdragon182 oh it has

  • stop talking american steve you goddamn jerk-off!!

  • @Mattymation Yeah he sounds pretty British to me

  • Where did his accent go?

  • That is an embarrassing accent he's adopted.

  • transatlantic twang...

  • Was John Peel the host of the talk show he talks about? The impression sounds like him

  • Where's the rest?

  • Ahaw

  • I hate the way Letterman mentions London like it's a country.

  • @lucasfunkt Letterman is a jackass he does terrible interviews

  • I don't know why it is that whenever an American person comments on a clip featuring an English actor or an English comedy show - some aggressive, smug Brit always feels compelled to start a pissing contest with them: "Dumb yanks/ You don't get our humour!!!/How dare you comment on 'our' humour ..."(as if they'd written the entire series themselves), but being British myself I feel compelled to apologise on their behalf. They're too dumb to do it themselves.

  • @aerialkate I definately agree, my experience is that loads of English people don't get comedies like Alan Partridge, and those that do get it seem to feel the need to praise themselves for doing, like it's some great acheivement, AND then feel it necessary to critise US comedies for being dumbed down when in fact when you look at it there are loads of great US shows like Curb, Arrested Development, The Simpsons (the 90's stuff) and Family Guy, which are different but just as great and clever.

  • fighting makes baby jesus cry

  • That first talk show coogan talks about in which he took part was hosted by Jimmy Greaves. One of the greatest footballers that ever has been.

A tory though in Thatcher's time, and therefore a twat.

  • Is he taking the piss a bit with that slight faux-American accent?

PS - Stop arguing about our nations please. It's nothing to do with this video.

  • Please say his putting that voice on. Jesus.

  • Its his real accent you cunts

  • @Jstand1 No it isn't, he doesn't usually have that American twang to his accent. If you watch him in anything else that's not how he sounds, he's completely English.

  • It's just that the Americans are use to brits coming over here and underperforming. So we'd hope that eventually the boys from the tiny little island would step their game up....

  • @QRF11B No "brits" perform, Americans over-perform. Everything is bigger in the US so you intellectual slugs don't miss it.

  • @williamwilson666 The same "intellectual slugs" who invented the airplane, internet, cell phone, IPOD, GPS (Global Positioning System), and sent a man to the moon? And those "slugs" beat your ass in our Revolutionary War. And those "slugs" tax payer dollars funded your food stamps after the war.

Now you think about I told you and go bow to your queen, boy.

  • @QRF11B Oh dear, it appears you don't know a great deal about history, or even the constitution of intellect. What a laughing stock you are. Too much money- barely brain cells to rub together. No wonder your political and economic masters bounce you up and down like puppets on a string.

The ill-tempered special needs child of planet earth.

  • @williamwilson666 I think if your mother knew how dumb you are she'd trade you in for a pet monkey.

  • @QRF11B Since you're doing the Brits vs Yanks thing, Britain is tiny and took over a quarter of the entire globe. The USA is vast and got its arse kicked by Vietnam. You've never won a war without help. You constantly attack the French for cowardice but they joined WW2 in 2 days. You took nearly two years.

  • @MissLondon84 Since you're doing the Brits vs Yanks thing, the US liberated France and supplied your country with food stamps and military protection after the war and your empire of colonialism went down the toilet. You want to talk about Vietnam? The US never lost one major battle in the entire war; the politicians lost the war not the military. Now let's talk about the UK. Somme, 1916 the Brits got 10 miles of land from the Germans for about 20,000 dead in the first day. Brilliant!

  • @MissLondon84 Let's talk about Singapore, 1942 where 100,000 UK and Australian soldiers surrendered to the Japanese. Furthermore, our Revolutionary War which sent the UK back home to jolly England with it's tail between it's legs and France defeated (again) the UK in international politics.

And what's this "never won a war without help" ? That's big talk coming from the English! If it weren't for the US and Russia you'd be speaking German right now you little twat.

  • @QRF11B I speak German even though Im from Ireland - thats mad isnt it? Or as they say in Germany - "Fuck off you American cunt"

  • @tiarnan76 Go eat a potato you dumb Irish bastard. No wonder your people are the perpetual property of the English.

  • I understand - americans would probably complain that they couldn't understand the dialect so well, so being the master of speech that he is - he added a slight american touch to it which caters for the appropriate audience. Smart move if you ask me..........

  • what accent is everybody talking about?! he sounds the same as he does on The Trip. Which is manc :/

  • @jaylias i'm with you, i can't hear any remote americanised accent in his voice, wtf are they talking about??

  • He played in The other guys.

  • What a prat - talking with that accent - its terrible as well! Knob-Jock

  • Nice accent Steve. Maybe his agent told him Americans can't understand Manc.

  • I love Coogan, but drop the American accent, mate.

You even took the piss out of 'splidding' and 'boddle' in Partridge.

  • Splidding?

  • bleeding hell, jesus h christ, mother of mary, cousin of the guy whos sister works at woolworths.my dearly beloved girlfriend has just released a peculiar trump.lady trumps are very powerful things.not to be trifled with.

  • what is with that fucking accent?

    " ur a dwad and a dosser "

  • @bigbigsound lol

  • Is it just me, or is he putting on a slight American accent?

    What the fuck?

  • He looks like Jools Holland :L

  • Is the band doing the orchestral build-up in The Beatles song "I am the Walrus"?

    I think it is.

  • @danutcase66 I wondered where I knew it from!! char love.

  • what the hell Steve?? You're from Middleton! what's happened to you?

  • @frapestyle He's moved on mate. That's all. Be proud,

  • I'm surprised at how his accent changes, when I go to America I tend to get a stronger British accent because everyone's so friendly they seem to talk to me more...

  • is he picking up an american accent or what??

  • When he said on Jonathan Ross that he changes his accent for whatever nationality he's talking to, it's actually true. xD

  • knock knock knock....HELLO! Brilliant Coogan!

  • @Cycleian Sorry to sound like a douche back there. I was in a bit of a bad mood. I would shake your hand and apologize for my behavior but clearly I can't.

  • @Cycleian I'm talking about him you fucking idiot! He was the one being sarcastic. Don't waste my patience.

  • @Cycleian Sarcasm cannot be easily conveyed over the net it seems.

  • "I've got your kids dan, I've got your kids."

  • I didn't know people from Rochdale talked like that.

  • he said on jonathan ross that he changes his voice depending on who hes talking to. for instance when he asks ffor water in america ppl sometimes dont understand him if doesnt use a bit of an american accent. Ozzy osbourne uses an american accent when hes on stage as well, for example.

  • Part 2??

  • Voice is put on.

  • would everybody just calm down! Steve Coogan isn't real he's a just a character played by Alan Patridge.

  • @51yourtimeisup i think u mean, alan partridge isnt rea hes a charachter played by steve coogan

  • @ThePokeyPictures No. You missed the joke entirley.

  • @grobo11 missed what

  • @ThePokeyPictures 51yourtimeisup's joke. It was supposed to be the other way round.

  • @51yourtimeisup other way around man alan partridge is played by steve coogan

  • @kimbolton111 Please stop confusing people:)

  • @fjslfhalfhkdjfh just because i was right :)

  • @kimbolton111 I believe 51yourtimeisup was making a joke

  • @51yourtimeisup You are so ignorant! Alan Partridge is a Character played by Paul Calf!

  • @51yourtimeisup Fantastic!

  • @51yourtimeisup what ? - are you serious ?

  • @51yourtimeisup

you have that the wrong way round

  • @darkstar1345a I think he was Joking; I think you were joking.

  • why did u cut it short mr. annoying ??

  • well he's probably been over there for months filming etc so maybe picked up a little twang but he's not putting on an accent.

  • Yeah, sort it out Steve. Dumbing down and dumbing down.

  • there is no american accent you turds!! maybe a softening of the vowels cos he just played an american character for ages innit

  • Aww come on Coogan! That faux American accent he's developing sounds awful. "jerk"? "dumb"? - ive got no problem with Americans saying these things but when he tries it my 'buttocks clench with nausea'.

  • @DogDogCatDog

The all american DOUCHE BAG is worse.. far worse.

  • The chat show Steve was referring to was it Greavsie's Gaff that Jimmy Greaves use to host in the early 90's it sounds like it especially with the impersonation he did?

  • Coogan's natural accent is Oasis Gallaghers...that's where he's from albeit from the other side of town...Middleton...same accent though.

  • Yeah, he's from Manchester. I live in the town next to Middleton, say 15 minutes away. I knew Coogan was from Manchester.. clearly.. we have pretty much the same accent.. but only 15 minutes away. Wow.

  • I can sort of hear why people don't think his British accent is quite so strong at the beginning, but it's definitely there and is in no way American. Just listen to how he says "jerk."

That said, I would love to see this whole interview. I don't know how I missed Steve with Letterman.

  • i dont think he wants to put on the accent, he's an impressionist so its well easy for him to pick up accents

  • American accent!?! He doesn't sound anything like an American, unless you are accustomed to actors doing crap American accents.

  • as opposed to americans doing totally authentic sounding non-american accents.....

  • Ah he should have done without the accent at the start. Still though it'd be hard to be on an american talk show, they have a whole different personality. it was like a dumbed down version of steve coogan.

    "Just be yourself steeeeeeeeeeeve!!!"

    "JURASSIC PARK!"

  • Why is he putting on an American accent in this?

  • where did that yank accent come from?

  • he's talking like a dick

  • Christ....what's happened to his voice?!

  • I think he's spent too long in LA with the old Columbian Marching Powder... ;-)

  • Ye so I hear!Shame because i love Partridge.... but he appears to be a pretentious nob now!

  • @BoratHIGHFIVE11 cocain... thats what happened

  • this guy is talented, I love his role as alan partridge, and also as octavius on night at the museum 1, and 2.

  • steve coogan is soo fit dont u recon xxx

  • Is he talking about the Big Breakfast?

  • yea its so strange to hear him with the american twang...probably because he spent all that time over there making movies etc

  • You'd have to know Steve Coogan well to hear, but yes, he does say some words with an American accent here, and also flattens his Mancunian accent a bit. - Fair enough - its an American show.

  • yea a little american and a little english. ;) but I stil love him. He also looks a bit nervous.

  • Thanks for uploading part of Coogan on Letterman, videodrone85 - how about the rest of it please?

  • Hamlet 2 is the funniest movie I've seen this year. Vastly underrated.

  • @seef0 that's true, it's a fantastic movie.

  • its true he has put on an american accent - well twang or whatever. Not cool! but he is a legend

  • in other clips he admits putting on a little twang as some americans cant understand certain phrases if he doesnt

  • lol @ the tards saying he sounds american. trust me, i'm american. he sounds english

  • Being American takes credibility from what you're saying rather than backs it up, given most Americans are completely clueless as to what makes their accent what it is(or, hilariously, that they have accents).

He sounds a bit American, but it's still chiefly an English accent.

  • Americans are funny. Or as George Bush puts it, "Merkins".

"We gotta fight tourism and the causes of tourism"

  • @3LARI LOL

  • im english and he sounds american

  • cunt

  • Hes putting on an american accent almost - I dont believe it

  • There is an american accent definitely. I heard it, scrolled down to see if anyone else had and then saw loads of comments! What a plonker! and I love Steve!

  • I doubt the Americans can really relate to his comedy...or can they? Hmmm...interesting. Steve is a Legend. He's just a gem. Really missin him over here. Watched him live in Manchester last year and felt very priverlidged. He is, without doubt, the funniest guy on earth.

  • easlly relatable.

  • Sorry, didn't hear an American accent at all. Most of you are nuts.

  • Urgh... horrible ditsy american accent. Fucking sellout.

  • the fuck is part two!!

  • where is part 2?

  • 'like a jerk'... talk proper like Steve.

  • Is it me or does Steve sound american!

  • Must be strange going on a chat show in America, I wouldn't imagine many Americans would really know or appreciate his best work as Coogan at his best plays on aspects of British culture. I hope he doesn't end up like John Cleese. Or the rest of the Monty Python crew for that matter, what happened to them all?

  • one died, the rest got old and retired as fairly well off men

  • jesus is steve nervous or what? transatlantic voice agin.

  • He sounds so American here, but I can relate to assimiliating the accent of where you're living. Still sounds weird though!

  • his accent has a slight american edge to it, which it normally doesnt. iguess that sorta happens naturaly when your in another country

  • he's too smart for the yanks.

  • hes a comedy genius-leave him alone

  • He looked uncomfortable. The US is not his natural audience, so I don't blame him.

  • The Coogan swapping his manc accent for an american one. How disappointing

  • Hehe, he said on Jonathan Ross' show that he needed to add an American twist to his accent so they'd understand what he was saying xD

  • he aint puttin it on, it's adjusted, if i go london for one week, i sound like a cockney and im from midlands, its natural for people especially impressionists like him

  • Where's the rest of this clip!

  • Perhaps because he lives in America now and has picked up the accent...?

The stage show was very funny. You must be a scouser...

  • isn't it funny how americans refer to england as london. it's like if we kept refering to america as washington or new york. WTF?

  • Who the fuck refers to england as london? WTF? Where''d you get that from ? Do you know all of us? No so how are you ganna say we refer to england as london? Wtf? If you said people refer to england as Britain then that would make some sort of sence. Dude stop with that stereotyping crap..

  • sorry - but i've seen it a couple of times ok. i don't mean that literally everyone says it so apologies.

but i've seen people say 'from london' when someone is actually from the north of england for example.

  • sorry for lashing out lol, I kind overreact when ever I suspect someone is stereotyping even when they aren't. I've had annoying experiences with people who have a different stereotype for every race and country, didn't mean to take it out on you.

  • no worries. i understand completely

  • I posted the full clip.

  • this is the second posting of the first 2 minutes.

somebody best post the full thing before i start begging.

id prefer to have seen none of it.

    this is just cruel.

do you enjoy fuckin with our emotions or what, i need to understand, im having a panic attack.

why are you doing this to us?why?

    help me!

  • I hope to see him on some other talk shows here for "Tropic Thunder" and "Hamlet 2"( Not all,of course, because most are ridiculous, and beneath him - Regis & Kelly,The View,Carson Daly,Ellen, although Leno might be good,as Leno's Mom was Scottish,so he always loves to have guests from the UK ,to talk about things over there.Surprised he didn't do Conan - though I find him ridiculous - after doing Letterman ,being of Irish lineage and all )

  • Why would someone post something that is incomplete?

  • anyone else think he sounds slightly american?

  • Any chance of posting the full interview? Please! You'd make a big Steve Coogan fan very happy.

  • Ditto. xD

Yes, I would very much like to see the whole interview as well.
