  • i checked my car speaker the same way as vid and i get a differet read every time also seems to not stop increasing read if i leave it on what could cause this to happen thanks

  • @pdiddy154 What settings to you have the meter on?

  • How do you measure resistance in a domestic appliance?

  • @uptilwhen Same way, red probe to the positive, black to the negative.

  • @Johnnysshop what about measuring a current through a lamp, say? Does it matter if the leads are attached to the 'neutral' (black/blue) or the 'live' (red/brown) side of the circuit?

  • @uptilwhen Either is fine since there isn't a ground. Basically you could just test the outlet with the lamp scenario. The voltage would be exactly the same as there are no transformers or anything in a lamp to regulate the voltage.

  • @Johnnysshop I have 240V supply 60W lamp and 0.25A through it. But when I try to measure the resistance through the lamp I get a reading which is incompatible with the (I)^2 R = Power or the (V)^2 / R = Power.

I have tried to read the inductance and find the reactance from 2 x Pi x frequency x inductance....then use the Z = SQRT ( resistance ^2 + reactance ^2)

But that doesn't give a good answer either. I'm not 100% sure I'm reading the inductance correctly. I'm a novice.

  • thx for the lesson

  • @kent9286 Thanks for watching!

  • Smaller ones..like smaller single resistors how do you test those?

  • @freezzertime Same way, they all have some markings on them.

  • did you say "thats what she said"? lol very incognito!

  • @jeffreyzell Yep. LOL

  • so if my multimeter is always making the beep noise even if the probes aren't touching each other or anything else does that mean my meter is fried?

  • @stealth322 Could be. Does it do it on all settings?

  • Doesn' t that continuous beep get on your nerves? I would be pissed if I couldn't turn it off. I didn't see any options on that particular meter to turn it on or off.

  • @eurokid83 Yeah, it does. No option to turn it off. Should would be nice if there were.

  • @Johnnysshop The beep sound might be useful for some tests. However, you could open the meter and put something over the beeper to muffle it. As long as it does not damage the meter, a drop of Super Glue or epoxy into the beeper might work well to quiet it or it might be completely disengaged. I remove, disengage or muffle all of my microwave, toaster oven and similar annoying bells, beepers, buzzers, et cetera. I do not recommend using an adhesive to quiet obnoxious children.

  • @andrewlouiswalz Good thinking!

  • @Johnnysshop mine has the option but I like the beep I don't need to look at the mm

  • hahaha. Take your probes, "THATS WHAT SHE SAID."

  • I though you get different reading if the resistor is still soldered to board due to interference from other components ? I was always told to remove it to test it ;-)

  • @paraglidermx You should actually remove at least one side of it to test it but the reading is typically within range installed depending on the resistor. this was just a general tutorial on how to check them. But yes, the most accurate reading would be to have it removed or at least one side of it.

  • haha wow, That's what she said?

  • @Mxrider2627 LOL

  • i allways wanted to know thus thanks>*****5starvideo

charlie saginaw mich my centec muti clamp miter i can figer how to set it it has less settings then yours mine is a 200kohm 2000ohms beep 300vdc300vac400A200A20A how to i work this out dose the ristor have the power on or the dgital multi clamp miter thanks please help

  • @jojosos Thanks for the comments! Not sure what you are asking...
