Psystar would not win, they are installing a hacked version of OS X. They think is legal because they are sending a retailed copy with the computer, by they way if your computer crash and you had to reinstall you would have to hack it.

I use all three OSes regularly, if it were only OSX or Vista, I'd choose OSX. Vista is way too demanding and Microsoft have really put the cart before the horse on this one. OSX's unix heritage gives it a nice edge in realiability and security. In OSX vs XP, I'd choose XP as it's well established, stable and well supported. While the server side of Linux is excellent, I don't like using it for desktop, way too many toolkits, GUIs and window managers all competing to make it a bit of a mish-mash.

Hey Samuel, This OSX being run on PC hardware is really nothing new (Hackintosh), several people have done it, just that a company is capitalizing on it. I'm against them doing it because they violated the OpenSource agreement for the Darwin OS (OSX for PC). Apple does frown on the idea of using OSX on a PC, but won't take legal action against you if you install it on your own PC and used a legal copy.

great topic! Personally I switched from Microsoft to apple a few months ago. I used vista on some demo machines and i could find no real advantages.... no functional additions. Microsoft should continue to develop XP rather than keep starting from scratch... I think one of the main reasons apple make their own hardware is so they can shape the complete user experience and ensure that absolutely everything will work perfectly. Miscellaneous hardware can cause unwanted problems.

First off, good topic. I think Apple's growth will soon plateau if they don't come out with a mid-range mac & lower there prices a bit. I think the attraction to the psystar pc is it's price & the flexibility of the configuration. This is one of the reasons windows is so popular in the beginning & is one of its advantages over Apple's closed system. So as long as Apple's has its higher prices & closes system it will remain small in market share terms & will allow MS to keep making mistakes.

As someone who has paid the "Apple Tax" one too many times, I would love to be able to put together a PC to my liking and run the OS instead of paying near double for the hardware that apple has put together for me (and depending on the type you get, most are designed to be replaced rather than upgraded). Part of that reason is still because Apple's OS can only be run on Apple hardware. Like you mentioned in the video - Dell would love to sell an OSX PC, but Apple just won't let them. You can't have it both ways (highest marketshare and yourself being the only manufacturer). Imagine how many people would be running OSX if they could on their existing PC's. Linux definitely isn't for everyone, really just leaving Windows as the only other choice in the PC OS world.

as a windows user i would pick os x as vista has been a bit of a disaster, but i don't think oems would be good for apple as i think it would turn them into another microsoft, but i do think apple should release a mid-range mac pro style mac,i think would do more for apple than any any oem could. at least in my opinion

mac os x definetly i have used one very user friendly but personly i dont want mac on all pc's i dont know why but mac on only a apple pc seems right
